So fun fact: In an SBR (aka, a fan Question and Answer chapter), Oda stated that if Shanks was there at Fishman Island instead of Luffy, his Conquerors Haki would be strong enough to knock out not just all 100,000 of the low ranking pirates, but also all of the senior/leaders of the Pirates as well. Just to illustrate how strong Shanks is as one of the 4 Emperors!

Hody was really so sheltered that he had no concept of things like the Admirals and the Yonko. He would've had a rude awakening even if the Straw Hats didn't show.
I mean, even before the timeskip, before he even became aware of haki, Luffy was already capable of thrashing armies of thousands solo (see: Enies Lobby). Taking that into consideration, is it really so surprising he can easily KO 50k dudes at his current level without even _touching_ them? Didn't think so. 😎

Hody is strong in his little bubble where nobody can stand up to him but is super ignorant of what is out there. His look of fear after making grandiose claims as he realises he doesn't know what he's dealing with is fun. There are far stronger people than he could ever imagine out there.
