The diagnostic videos are my absolute favorite. Replacing parts rarely matches the intellectual curiosity of understanding a problem and how these complex automotive systems work.
Would probably be just as good a channel.... Zip ties lost its Zip when he started cleaning up his videos for youtube. Unsub'd and quit watching after that. The last good vid he made was of that Detroit cement truck....
Yeah but...how many cars from the old days had their original plugs at 180,000 miles. People glow over the "old days" because they only remember the good parts. I don't miss having to replace the entire exhaust system every couple of years because it's rusted out.
The great thing about this video is that your customer can watch and see everything you did, just in case he questions the bill. And if his friends and neighbors watch this, you just got yourself some free advertising.
Friend of mine asked me if he should clean the dielectric grease out of a light socket on hie Dodge Van.Thought I was pullling his leg when I tried to explain why the grease was there.
Diag Diag Diag videos, Wes don’t stop making Diag videos man. That’s where the real content is man, any fool can swap parts and show it. But actually finding the real cause of a problem and only fixing that is key to real repairs. The proof in in the pudding!!!
If it wasn't for simple diagnostic videos there would be a bunch of us shelling out for repairs that should have been covered under warrentee. Case in point a Jeep Patriot throttle body replacement just under the kilometres and within warrentee period, dozens of folks got burned by dealerships to replace this purported "non warrentee" item. However due to videos posted, I was able to have mine covered because I mentioned the videos online about the "just at warrentee" period failures. Lets face it, research and standing your ground sometimes beats a $1500.00 bill every time, when the manufacturer knows that part is garbage and they get called on it. So simple diagnostic videos, a cup of coffee and watching a video published by Wes can save a guy some dollars, why not? Thanks for the share Wes, have an awesome day and thanks again.. Cheers Sir!
Excellent work as always Wes!! I don't care what your videos are about, I just love watching them, they're always entertaining, fun, and informative...
Surprised you don't get many views on diag videos, hell they're a large part of why I'm subscribed to your channel. Enjoyed the video bud, keep them coming and I'll keep watching.
I enjoy these Diagnostic videos. I don't own, and will probably never own a chevy trailblazer, but still enjoy watching the troubleshooting process. Please keep making videos like this :)
I think the numbers ought to tell you how good the videos are. To think that you take the time to video which has to about double you repair time getting it all set up.... thanks for doing so. You make my brain hurt watching you diagnosing electrical issues. I am amazed at your patience to push through til it is resolved.
My Ford E150 van needed a coil pack at only 65k miles. Started misfiring on one cylinder. The repair was over $300. IIRC the part was a lot of the cost. Glad to see the repair and what's involved. Wes went the extra mile with all new plugs.
“There’s your problem, Lady” AAHHH screw it! 😃 I do like the inside patch over just jamming a plug from outside with gum on it! Great job! 👍👍. Enjoy the troubleshooting you do also!
There is a lot of value in examining other people's troubleshooting methods. In cases like this, not even just the methods but the chain of investigation from "initial report" to "solution". Love your work, man. Keep it up.
I like diagnostic videos as well. Especially from someone at your level. I've only had a few mechanics that worked for me with your analytical skills. Thanks for the fun. :-)
The good ole' does the problem follow the part. When you mentioned grease I was waiting for the comment. Lol. Nice demonstration of a quality tire repair. My preference everytime. Good job!
Nice to see follow the steps and wow it was fixed no fuss no muss. The tire repair brought back memories from 30 years ago I worked at sears in Downtown Peoria and lost count on how many flats I did.
I haven't seen the lead wire tire patches before. That is new to me. The places I go to don't use them. Man, I grew up working on older Chevy straight sixes, the 235's and the, then newer, 250's. You could chuck a cat down either side of the engine with room to spare and you didn't worry about ignition modules failing. Of course you could lose your coil, or have the condenser go bad and fry your points and then you were dead. I didn't see that all that often though. Regular maintenance was the key there. There are those who will long for the good old days. I am not one of them. Some things were simpler but cars are generally more reliable. Fuel injection systems got rid of troublesome carbs and electronic ignition got rid of those pesky points. Engines last much longer than they used to. My vehicle has around 180k on it and I don't need to add oil between changes. Regular maintenance is changing the oil and air filter.
I will probably never need this info... With that being said it was still entertaining as always. I liked the "stop animation" on the plug and coil replacement scene.
I love diagnostic videos and reading about it. It's like a mechanic's puzzle and affords me "practice" without having to do it myself. A buddy and I trade work info daily just to bounce questions and learn more.
Thanks Wes! Ya didn't your hands too dirty on this one. So glad you used the ole "electric" transfer grease on the ignition module! That might have corrected the original problem 😂
That was a legit repair he did. I just use the $20 plug kit and run a sticky one through it. I bought a mini bead breaker for $80 so I can swap TPMS sensors at home. Its not a ton of $ for the tire shop to do them, its the 1-2 hours to drive, wait, drive back.
Not sure why diagnostic videos don't seem to get as many views because I personally find them to be some of the best content on CZcams. Love the way Wes expresses the logic he's using to diagnose because it helps me and others if/when we have to try & diagnose this stuff without having one of those expensive diagnostic devices. Thanks for the great videos.
Just a quick side note that you can as the tire industry has been doing is reseal the inside that's being buffed that is on the inside of the tire they put a sealant on the buffed area too. It seals the inner lining of the tire. All the best from Canada

Now that's a proper tire repair Wes, we used to keep an old hair dryer around the tire repair station to help with flashing off the cement faster, especially in the colder weather. Also not saying it's right but I used to not only mark the valve stem but also the wheel weights before dismounting the tire to avoid having to rebalance the tire.
I mark the stem then I usually check it on the balancer. I'd say 50% of the time it will come up .25 oz or less, which is fine. Anything over and I pop the weights off and start over.

Wess, only problem is I usually watch these on Sunday when at work where my hourly rate is double time but I'm watching this at work on a Saturday, my hourly rate is only time and half. Great job Wess.

Yeah - I thought it was a great vid. I have a 2008 version of that trailblazer so I was interested in how he fixed that issue...
