R.I.P. Frank
So excited to listen to these studio recordings finally after all these years!
30:54 is the band's latest single "Baby Doncha Know"
i cant believe that Frank-Bill-Tony set was un-real and, i honestly, didnt expect it to be THAT good...i expected really good, but that was expectation. Frank, woulda loved to meet you, but the feeling probably wouldnt have been mutual! Yer style was right on--one of the great us hardcore guitarists/song writers...by sheer force. i think you might be the overlooked genius, but its more relaxing that way. how do TWO meatheads forget the words to Im Not A Loser?...because they realize its ABOUT THEM!!!
Thanks to the release of the 9th & Walnut album, the remaining titles from the setlist can finally be filled in, 19 years later(!):
5:09 - Sailor's Choice (Frank Vocals)
6:27 - Crêpe Suzette (Frank Vocals)
7:34 - I'm Shaky (Frank Vocals)
9:31 - Statue of Liberty (Frank Vocals)
11:46 - Nightage (Bill Vocals)
14:15 - You're Disgusting (Frank Vocals)
15:08 - To Remember (Frank Vocals)
17:05 - You Make Me Sick (Frank Vocals)
18:19 - Last of the Mohicans (Frank Vocals)
20:43 - Tired of Being Tired (Tony Vocals)
22:06 - Ride The Wild (Frank Vocals)
24:36 - Lullaby (Frank Vocals)
25:51 - It's A Hectic World (Tony Vocals)
27:36 - I Need Some (Frank Vocals)
28:47 - Like The Way I Know (Frank Vocals)
29:57 - [unknown title] (Bill Vocals)
30:54 - Baby Doncha Know (Frank Vocals)
31:51 - Grudge (Frank Vocals)
33:43 - Glad All Over [Dave Clark Five cover] (Tony Vocals)
Sadly, the 16th song in this set was not included on the new record, so its proper title continues to languish in obscurity (at least for the time being).
Upon closer listening I think Baby Dontcha Know (Demo #9) could possibly be Lullaby. As hard it is to decipher what Frank is singing at times I swear he's saying the word 'lullaby' at various points in the song, most notably in the beginning.
@@kurisupikurimu1866 after listening again, I'm almost positive you're correct about that - he definitely says the word "lullaby" several times. I think it's safe to assume that's the correct title. Thanks!
I also have to ask the question of how you're aware of these mystery song titles, where they mentioned on a flyer or set list?
couldnt they have recorded these with Spot and came outta the gate with a double album?? (take that Husker Durp and Minutemen) Like The Way I Know with Milo singing is a classic Milo Goes To College track put in a time freezer or whatever they call em....id kill for one more, but would accept more. From 1980, the real Descendents lineup. Magic in a Bottle. they werent bad after, just less great.
@@kurisupikurimu1866 i would check early bootlegs from 1980. slim pickins, barely and filmage shows, but a few shows with no video. ive had 0 luck identifying any, yet...
11:46 is the latest single "Nightage"
thank u mr spoon
That's a great fucking punk song! So Glad to hear Milo rendition on this
This is mental
the has to be one of the best yt vid ever.... frank navetta tony lombardo the best!!!!!!
strongly agree. the paisans were far apart in age but had a brother chemistry. both so perfect. theres no bad songs with them, those came later....
@@DaveAnchovies meat puppets too (love up on the sun my fav lp) and Angst on SST they gotr an awesome few albums check out angst - litelife
Thank you so much for filming this! This is gold. especially the original line up set ❤️🎪❤️
Demo #14 is a cover of Glad All Over by The Dave Clark Five.
Thanks for posting btw. This is historic stuff!
57:59 I'm Not A Loser cover is Brandon Carlisle on vocals. Or Ray, idk they're twins
The fact that demo 11 didn't appear on 9th and walnut really sucks; it was one of the songs I was most excited for.
This is amazing

Thanks so much for posting m8 rebel yell is Billy idol not Billy Joel
Ray Carlisle from Teenage Bottlerocket is the singer on I'm Not A Loser.
Pretty sure it was Bug Phace on vocals for Stalker at 59:36
like milo eating hahahaha prob just like when he 1st went to the practices
Love Tony's Ruts shirt. This is an awesome show too btw.
You don't know how upset it makes me that they never released these songs because so many of them are so insanely great. It would be amazing if we could've heard these when Frank and Tony were in their prime. But this is still really cool.
yea it'd be great to hear studio cuts of these
@@blonieamw2998 According to Lombardo they were originally working on a new album featuring their old songs they had written and potentially some new material but then Frank got sick and eventually died before it could be completed. Milo apparently said he'd finish the songs and album but nothing ever came of it, so it's just a real shame.
@@kurisupikurimu1866 awww i know i seen that too, would have been so great. Mr. Bass is my fav song, my dad sucks and everything on the FAT EP is just the greatest! I wonder what the ride/hectic 7" is worth,, i dont ever see it for sale anywhere,, lol ill bet you someone like Greg Gin, Spot or Mike Watt have a copy tho hahahaha
Milo mentioned in a recent interview that they’re currently working on these songs!
@@hermannmusik That's awesome to hear! Their latest material has been somewhat disappointing due to the polarizing political lyrics but I still have high hopes. With any luck they can do these great songs justice!
Holy shit. I can't believe this exists. What an amazing weekend.
ha great to see everytime.... bunch of great guys! 🙂
frank could have been our own extended d.boon if he had wanted to.
PURE GOLD!!! thanks for sharing!
Thanks for documenting this show
Cheers from Detroit!! This is sweet!!!
I can't be the only one impressed by Karl's singing, right? They almost could have formed All as a three-piece, and it still would have been great I bet
His background singing has always been killer but hearing him just go at it with lead vocals is sick as hell, especially since Coolidge is in my opinion the best song he's written.
aside from Scott-era, id have given it a shot. wow, im listening to this and Ride The Wild is being fantasic and way more rockin'. original is fantasic....but these are surprisingly fantastic-er!!! navetta...went out with a bang. theyre killing. these shoulda been done in a studio...ya bums!!!!!!!!
thats how i feel about Frank & Tony after this set, but i dont think either wanted the job
Damn, Bill Stevenson shreds on guitar.
I'm Not a Loser is sung by Ray Carlisle from Teenage Bottlerocket
Wow.
Yoooo Bill stevenson rocks on the guitar!!!!!!!
You had me at "she was in her barbie safari" 03:38 heck.
29:53 says "play something we know" but we get what we didn't know which is now a treasure and you were there.
One of my musical dreams is to see Chad Price yelling "what went wrong" from Problematic's ww.sara
Has anyone ever seen/heard this song live?
Yeah, I saw them do it on their last tour in 2002. Awesome set. Probably half of it was “Problematic” tunes.
1:53:48 Rebel Yell Billy 'Idol'
mastapees
Demo 4 is called Nightage
Do you have anymore footage from this stockage? I sang Mary karaoke and always wanted to see footage of it.
This is basically everything. There's some stuff I cut, but none of it is from the karaoke. Sorry dude!
Tony, Frank, and Bill are The Descendents.
Every other lineup is just a tribute.
Tony has the most distinctive bass style in the world.
Rebel Yell is listed as a Billy Joel cover. Hilarious!
yeah...hope its on purpose. either way, hilarious
Jesus Christ, Longfellow. you needed crib notes?
Anyone know the names of the songs performed by the original lineup? (except statue of liberty, ride the wild and hectic world of course)
they never had a real name they were just demos and jams they hashed out while practing
frank could have sang, no problem...i just think he liked beating the shit outta his guitar....Tony, too. they'd have simultaneously sound like DEVO and psych-power pop surf band
Check out their "new" album 9th & Walnut and you'll get to know all the song titles
Demo 11 remains unknown as it doesn't appear on 9th & Walnut
It's really unfortunate that it got dropped, I liked that one quite a bit. I was wondering if they were going to change the lyrics or something since it uses "dyke" and that's not exactly looked upon well anymore, shame that they just left it out entirely. At least the rest of the album is good.
@@maeday3926 dude i see you everywhere replying on old descendents songs
@@kurisupikurimu1866 I see you around a lot too, haha! I'm a big fan, but not many of my friends like punk like I do so I really don't have many places to discuss it.
UPDATE: Album's out. I got a few of these wrong and Demo 11 isn't even on the album which is a shame because it was pretty good. I'm going to leave this comment here just because I think it's cool to see how things were speculated on before they came out.
Approximations for which Descendents demo is which + the two known singles:
Demo 1 - ???
Demo 2 - ???
Demo 3 - Sailor's Choice
Demo 4 - Nightage
Demo 5 - Yore Disgusting
Demo 6 - To Remember
Demo 7 - You Make Me Sick
Demo 8 - Mohicans
Demo 9 - Lullaby
Demo 10 - I Need Some
Demo 11 - ???
Demo 12 - Baby Doncha Know
Demo 13 - Grudge
Demo 14 - Glad All Over
This leaves Crepe Suzette, I'm Shaky, and It's My Hair. I can't make out any lyrical clues so I'm not sure which is which. One of them could even be "Wipe Out", a track that doesn't appear on the 9th and Walnut tracklist but appears on the first Descendents set list, which you can find on the Filmage Instagram page.
I'm gonna assume 11 is Crepe Suzette
@@LuxuriousInterior It might be, I'm excited to find out when July rolls around.
@@maeday3926 same, if I'm not mistaken the Descendents used to play a cover of Wipe Out by the Surfaris early on in their career
@@LuxuriousInterior Oh that's probably what the track I was referring to is, thank you for the information! I guess that explains why it's not on the 9th and Walnut tracklist but I'm glad they kept the Glad All Over cover because it was a great finisher for this show.
I'm pretty sure the first three are those:
#1 - Sailor's Choice
#2 - Crepe Suzette
#3 - I'm Shaky
