These were once very common place and commercialy available everywhere. This should be on everyone's bucket list, and probably be taught in schools all over the world. I made one a few years back and it's brilliant. It does however use more fuel, but beats having to put up with smoke fumes when cooking, especially great for indoors just be aware of ventilation and spillages.

That's unfortunate. I was hoping to cut down on fuel costs by using this method. Guess I'll have to stick with gas cylinders.

How do you turn this stove off once you've used it? Really confused.

To burn, a flame needs oxygen. If you remove the Oxygen , you extinugish the fire. long story short, find an aproppriate metal utensil (for exaple an epty can of beans, slightly bigger than the stove) and cover the stove completely so that the oxygen is used up. in a few seconds the fire will be out .

Mine didn't work. It tried, but flame only came out of 2 of the 16 side holes. I used 70% rubbing alcohol; held it over a rocket stove to prime and it just wouldn't get going and fizzled. My rocket stove wasn't a success either 😥😭

Why can't you just light the stove with a match or lighter?

To show that if you don't have a match or lighter, you can still light it up.

Can I use charcoal lighter fluid or liquor instead?

High proof liquor like Everclear would work well since it will burn clean. Rubbing alcohol (Isopropyl alcohol) would be a great option too.
