- Unboxing some awesome new cichlids today for the 180 gallon South American cichlid tank. I'm very excited for the new cichlids, and the big fish I picked up!
These Uaru cichlids are going to fit in great with the other South American cichlids in this aquarium. They get big, but also relatively peaceful cichlid, so I can't wait to watch them grow in this tank. Uaru amphiacanthoides are South American cichlids, and I'll be doing more updates on them very soon!

Troy , I’ve commented about 3 times that you should get some uaru in there , that’s what I keep with my red heads and tapajos , awesome to see you put them in your tank ! You’ll highly enjoy enjoy , my four are super personable , and huge about 10 inches long . They are awesome fish

@@CichlidBros and as I more than imagine you already know they are omnivores but putting a higher plant base in their diet is most beneficial , my largest one got to ten inches before ever laying eggs , and my smaller pair were only about 4 inches when they started , I just randomly started feeding them the omega one seaweed strips ( I know it’s a salt water food but I figured since it’s dried out it won’t be as salty ) and the black tear drop shapes started getting super dark and the top and bottom fins turned super blue , I guess their mating dress but neither pair started to ever look as good until I put the sea weed into their diet also , my geos and gymnogeos and severums love it too I just chop it up in little strips and let it soak in a little bit of tank water and then they go to town on it , easy cheap way to make sure they get a butt load of plant based nutrient
Awesome fish bro! Love that tank. I have a South American tank as well. Wish I had more of a selection in my area. Went to 5 shops in the last few days and nothing caught my eye unfortunately.

Nice one! fills out the tank nicely and almost like you have added a small school. Love the idea you mentioned of a Central American tank too. That would add a new dimension to your collection. Put in some (formerly known as Ellioti), Vieja Melanura, Salvini, JD, even a couple convicts. I know you've had trouble with a Salvini before but I've had some that are pretty calm.
Chocolate cichlids would also make a nice addition

Congratulations! I love Uaru, I bought one back in January, it was 1" long and now 10 months later he's over 7" they grow super fast. They have a great personality, mine eats from my fingers and bites me. Gorgeous fish

Wow I haven’t heard of them before they look pretty and with the blacks and reds so cute how they pop. So sorry you lost some fish. I hate when that happens even if it’s small fish. But the cichlids it hurts more because of the personality and the cost. Unfortunately when we keep pets it happens and nothing lives forever. So glad you found what you were looking for bro. ❤🎉

Kept some years ago.. amazing fish, been itching to get a group to grow out and breed but currently have no space for anything new! Fishkeeper problems. BTW watching them grow and change their patterns is highly recommended for a future project! That's the best park also they grow pretty quick

do you think a partially submerge dracaena sanderiana (lucky bamboo) is a good idea in cichlids tank?
Just a thought do you think it could be the sand and the drift wood that causes the random bacterial infection? I use to have a similar problem when I hand sand and wood in my tank. After I took it out I stoped loosing fish. Just a thought tho maybe my wood was getting old
I have 3 Uaru and they are very nice fish. However, if you have any bully fish in the tank, they may eventually get tired of them and take them out. They can bite big deep holes in fish. I lost a mature male Geo. balzani and a 7" Satanoperca daemon. Both fish picked at the Uaru until they finally got hit. I think it was the smaller female that did it. They are usually very chill and will interact with you. I would never get rid of them.
I see you didn't quarantine are you not worried about disease or do you trust your supplier enough not to worry about it. They are really good looking fish nice addition to the tank.

Hello been watching you for a few days now, I'm in the process of building my first tank and I wanted to start with the Discus fish but I found it to be too expensive for me, so I decided to go with the angelfish based on your vids, my question is that; do I go with the angels or do you recommend another similar fish?

Mostly spirulina and krill flakes, along with cichlid pellets. Links in description of what I use

My Oscar is my least favorite. Awesome personality, but they are ugly fish IMO! My favorite is my Jack Dempsey and Severums. Breaking down my Tanganyikan tank and will be finding homes for my last few fish in it. I have a breeding pair of Gold Calvus that are full grown and about 31/2 years old. Really hard letting them go they have made me a ton of fry!
