    This is a huge principal of Kungfu styles especially Bajiquan.
    From total relaxation to total contraction then back to relaxed.
    This is so good to see there are different ways to create power.
    Also the super stiff movements at times of hard styles like Karate can be extremely taxing later on in life.
    I’ve seen high level Japanese stylists still do there there hard body training but supplement it with a softer style like Tai Chi 🤜🤛

    I use the bow and arrow analogy often in teaching, it’s the way your muscles work, relaxation, stretch, and contraction- makes for a fast arrow

    Very good to watch Rick has fantastic explosive speed with emphasis on power as well. Body mechanics hip movement breathing resetting for the next strike. I think this type of skill set is very important to develop. Always been a fan of Shotakan Karate because of its simplicity. Rick explains very well and demonstrates great body mechanics and movement. Ps done stress about your calves. This video encourages people to re work their Kata make it better.

    Superb Martial artist. His relaxed, flowing style reminds me more of GoJu RYU rather than Shotokan. It's a reminder that all styles of Karate have very similar origins. His relaxed posture and techniques remind me strongly of Sensei Hiagonna although they are very different physically.

    He has a lot of tai chi in his movements. All this relaxation and connecting is from traditional tai chi. 3:34 is classic tai chi. Karate is evolving.

    Been studying with Sensei Tani and then Sensei Kimura. Then both have past away! But got the technique of torque power speed! Yes like a whip! Relax then strike!

    Karate is just effectively synching your mind and body with balance and power, so the smaller has a better chance over the larger, or just knowing where to ,find weakness.

    I did shooting for a while in the UK in my late teens and I liked it but it was a bit rigid less fluid. I moved to Australia and shotokan was hard to find it was all the made-up schools and some Goju ryu.

    How is sensei still a 5th dan? Why is he not recognised at the higher levels?
    Is he not part of the mainstream Shotokan community, so it out on a limb?

    • @ramireini
      @ramireini Před 7 měsíci

      As far as I know, he doesn't want a rank above 5th dan because Gichin Funakoshi said 5th dan is enough.
