  • It's the battle of the blading brands!
    Since Them's inception there has been a fierce rivalry with Roces, so we decided to pitch the two brands against each other and see which skate comes out on top.
    We take an in-depth look at the features of the Them 908 Sean Darst pro skate and compare them with the Roces Fifth Element.
    This episode of Honest Reviews is brought to you by the words "incredible" and "however" because I cannot seem to stop saying them throughout the review! I swear I know more words, but I think my vocabulary is trying to catch up with getting comfortable speaking on camera. These things take time, people!
    If you have any questions, leave them in the comments and I will respond.

    I've recently got a pair of 909's and I have noticed the same thing regarding the back frame bolt; there's a slight bulge at the heel when it's tightened all the way. So all you did was use a frame bolt of the same length as the front one? And you haven't found any issues with that so far right? Thanks a bunch!

    • @wheelsceneblading

      I have wide, flat feet. Both the 908 and Fifth Element are great for wide feet. The Fifth Element have more room at the toes, if you have larger feet

    Good review! I couldn't believe how heavy the 5ths were when I held a set. I'm pretty sure they are the heaviest skate on the market

    • @wheelsceneblading
      @wheelsceneblading  Před 4 lety

      I don't know about that, buy they are pretty heavy. You don't notice it after a session or two, but it definitely makes the skate slower.

    • @zhingy
      @zhingy Před 4 lety +3

      It also might feel much heavier, since Roces soulplates are bulkier and the boots toe area also - more weight especially in the front makes the skates feel clumsy and slow. I've found over the years, that the weight is not that big of a deal when talking about light to medium weighted skates. For example the Razors SL suits better for me than the more lighter USD Carbons, since plastic boot is also more flexible and the skate is more supportive all around. I also like beefier liners, which add more weight but feel much more comfortable. Also proper shock absorber is nice to have under the heel.

    • @adamlanglois563
      @adamlanglois563 Před 4 lety +1

      @@zhingy my opinion is probably invalid, I still skate solos with Seba liners. I've always felt if comes down to what works best for the individual. That said I plan on throwing some plates and frames in some old K2 midtowns and seeing how that plays out

    • @wheelsceneblading
      @wheelsceneblading  Před 4 lety

      @@zhingy oh, it's definitely the soul plate that is the cause of the weight.

    • @wheelsceneblading
      @wheelsceneblading  Před 4 lety +2

      @@zhingy I have large feet, so the difference between a lighter and heavier skate is increased because everything is bigger. I take heel pads out of most skates that I right because I don't like to lean forward too much. I have never been able to skate the more recent Razors models for that reason - the heel pad makes them lean forward more than I like and I find it makes the skate feel slower as well.

    @shottagurl345 Před 4 lety +1

    Hey awesome review! I just got a pair of these and was pretty excited til after I tried them on. I’m not sure if it’s just my pair but I’m experiencing something really strange with the cuffs. They flex forwards to the point where it feels like the buckles are breaking and I’m gonna fall over forward. Did you ever have that problem and if so, is it an easy fix?

    • @wheelsceneblading
      @wheelsceneblading  Před 4 lety

      There is quite a lot of flex in the cuff but some people prefer that. It's all down to personal preference. If you don't like it and would like the cuff area to be more rigid, I would recommend getting stiffer liners. The Roces ones are quite soft. The best options I have used are Intuition V2 liners and MyFit Second Skin, both offer additional support. It might also be worth using longer waxed hockey laces and wrapping them round the cuff for extra support.

    • @shottagurl345
      @shottagurl345 Před 4 lety +1

      wheelsceneblading I actually fixed this problem and yeah it was just me lol. I wasn’t fastening these properly but I also went with your suggestions of a stiffer liner since I had a Reign v2 liner and I love that liner the best but I have my k2 insoles in the stock liner and hockey waxed laces and I tightened the skates properly and with this setup, these skates since getting back into the game have been the best feeling skates in literally years. Thanks for your response and suggestions 👍🏾.

    I think that little piece of plastic is to stop the liner from moving around in the boot

    • @wheelsceneblading
      @wheelsceneblading  Před 4 lety +1

      Nah, it's to stop the hardware receivers on the underside of the boot damaging the bottom of the liner - in case there are any sharp or blunt parts - but it's not necessary and most other boot brands don't even bother including them.

    • @mylesjohnson7351
      @mylesjohnson7351 Před 4 lety +1

      wheelsceneblading ya that too but if you didn’t have a big foot and you were on the small end of the boot like an 8 in the 8-9 shell you would need that thing too stop the liner from moving around your foot is crammed in there so it’s not gonna move around anyways if you had smaller feet and allot of space in the shell you need that plastic to stop the liner for moving around otherwise the smooth bottom of the boot is too slick that’s why that have that textured plastic at the bottom it allows some purchase for the liner on the bottom of the boot

    • @wheelsceneblading

Plus, if you are a 10UK, you are just slightly too big for the size 8/9UK shell and your foot is way too small to be going into the size 10/11 shell, so downsizing makes sense! If you are at the bottom end of any shell size, you should always try your luck with a smaller size. You are at the top end of a shell size, so it doesn't make sense for you.
