FlyLady vs Clean Mama: Which cleaning routine is best for YOU?

The FlyLady cleaning routines are robust and include tasks for life balance. She has a start slow 31-Day Baby Steps plan to create habits that last. Then the FlyLady layers on Daily tasks, Weekly tasks, and Zone Cleaning to deep clean even the dirtiest of homes.
The Clean Mama Simply Clean Method is easier to understand from the start and offers more instant gratification. She also has a beginner phase but it is much more intense on cleaning. Clean Mama really focuses on cleaning with all of the daily, weekly, and rotating tasks being cleaning-related and not life balance. You will see a cleaner home after the 1st day.
The question is not will they work? Both FlyLady and Clean Mama work and work very well. The question is which cleaning routine is best for you? Do you need instant clean and a hard-hitting approach or ease into building those habits? We are weighing the pros and cons so you can make your best decision.

Ironically, as much as I dislike "fluff", FLYLADY works for me. I love her old school simple lists. As a full-time student, full-time manager, and mother (college students living at home), grandmother, significant other, and daughter, I love that she incorporates the things that may slip my mind and is totally customizable. FLYLADY Kat is great because she is the epitome of "no fluff". Diane in Denmark is "whimsical". Terry K's

And how can I forget the work and student control journals, holiday planner, and home maintenance journal. As a first-time homeowner (condo), it was helpful. I incorporated the minor things that were found during ny home inspection. Super helpful.
Thank you so much. I absolutely love the FlyLady. In fact I usually listen to her daily morning livestreams while I do my own routines because I love her heart. Her plan works the best for me but I know kids my daughter's age prefer Clean Mama. I just want to help inspire anyone struggling not to give up, start with the plan that seems the most comfortable for you and then adjust it to truly fit your life. Sounds like we are in the same stage of life. I really appreciate the details that FlyLady puts in so that I can be reminded to menu plan and clean the car. It truly is a life change.

The past two weeks, I’ve been putting into practice, the 5-minute rule. Every 30 minutes, I spend 5 minutes doing something. My house is really starting to look very clean.
I’m also practicing, -don’t touch things twice. I’m not feeling any pain and things look great.
Keep it up! I like your 5 minute rule. I was just at my daughters and tried to show her that I do something and then take a little break. Cleaning doesn’t have to be so hard core!

Confused about that. I think of those of you who have pretty well got the system down as no longer Flybabies. But there's only one Flylady, so I don't know what to call you all lol.

Hi Terri! I'M late to the party, but I just wanted to chime in (I'm watching this video right now). I'm from Delaware. I started watching different vlogers just about 2 months ago, looking for ways to get out of this chaos of a mess and keep that way,and I came across The Organised Mum Method. I'm on week 7 and ILOVE it! I take more time than she suggests with alot of the jobs, but take way less time than I would have otherwise. She hits all the levels of cleaning,but the way she breaks it down makes it so much easier for me. And she has free print outs. I'm not a naturally clean person either and I have 3 bathrooms, chronic physical problems, and not diagnosed ADHD, but definitely have the traits. Anyway, I never eve. Tried Clean Mamma or Fly lady, but looking at their schedules I just knew there was no way I could do it with either. But when I saw The Organised Mom printouts on how she breaks down the levels of cleaning down, it just clicked for me. Everyone's houses and priorities are different, so I just modified my lists and schedules to fit my house. Because I have 3. Bathrooms, I broke it down so that I do the quickest and most important tasks in each daily, then I have a bathroom day where I clean showers and floors, then monthly on my weekly Focus day, I do as much of the monthly tasks as I can in 30 MI uses, and I do that in only one bathroom each week. Also, TOMM says only do the small daily tasks on weekends. Don't do weekly or montgly/bi-monthly cleaning then. She also has a Messy House Boot camp job list.
It took me about a week or 2 to tweak the schedules to fit my needs, but it was soooo worth it! My house it slowly but steadily transforming from lo I king like hurricane Katrina hit it to looking and feeling like a home again.
Also, I got some great tips from Clutter bug and Minimal Mom. Clutter Bug helps people figure out what original style worksbest for them based on their clutter and mesyy habits. . She even has a free quiz you can take to find out what Clutter bug you see, and based on the results, she has tips to help you organise in a way that works best for you. My results say I'm a butterfly, but I'm convinced I'm a butterfly/lady bug hybrid lop. Anyway, that was slot to say, neither Fly Lady or Clean Mamma would work for me but TOMM works great for me, as well as some tips from Clutter Bug.
I’m thrilled that you shared your story! I truly believe all plans need to be adjusted and the plan that clicks for you is the right one. I watch multiple channels with other plans and use what I think would solve a problem in my home. I’m a rebel to them all. 😀
@Today with Terri K I so agree! There is no one-sized fits all, and sometimes we have to think outside of the box to figure out what works for us. And, support each other and encourage each other and challenge each other. Sorry for all the typos. Sorry that you weren’t able to join live. I haven’t watched the replay (too tired afterwards) but I was excited it seemed ok. I do love that quote and I’m m noticing I keep reducing my decor on tables and shelves for that reason. I’m thinking it would be fun to do another live n the 31st as our celebration party: is there a time that works better for you through the week? The 31st is a Tuesday.
Fly Lady is the best for me. I always have the time to squeeze in 15 minutes of this or that. The routines really help stay on top of things!!!

I’m downloading a time blocking app as you have said that you time block your day which sounds helpful. I need to be less overwhelmed by thinking about a long list of tasks and more motivated to do timed short bursts and actually get it done
Once the routines are set as habits you’ll be more comfortable. Anything new feels that way until it’s not new anymore.
Hi Terri! I was unable to watch live, (I had family over) but I am watching now 👋🏽 I am from South Carolina. I have tried Clean Mama. I always go back to Fly Lady though. My house has used or hand me down furniture too. Nothing matches. I am not a natural homemaker either. You are not alone 😆 That is a good tip, don't leave a room empty handed. I don’t know if this is helpful, or if anyone has an easier way to do this…. You can add fly lady or clean mama to a cozi calander… it automatically fills in…. Than I added my cozi calander to my google calander…. Now I have it right on my shared google calander and I can ask my google nest what’s on the agenda today

Our weather is very unpredictable, but it's usually warmest between June and Sept!! I love Spring and Autumn though as I'm not too fussed on the heat / sun too much anymore! X ps yes I've heard that is a good mascara, it's all about the wand/brush for me, I copied the secret slob and wear Monsieur Big, it works really well for me!! X
Yes, wand is everything! My daughter was supposed to go on a trip there in fall 2020 but obviously they cancelled. We promised we’d go before she graduates.
