      I think your assessment of Red Bull's mid-season moves is sound. Mainly because it agrees completely with my assessment. Including Yuki being angry. I believe it's Yuki's anger problems that is keeping him from the Red Bull team seat. Christian Horner sees something in Danny-Ric, and is eager to coax that genius out of him once again.

      Brazilian GP 1982 Jacarepagua, Rio de Janeiro.
      Nelson Piquet won his home GP driving the Brabham.
      Keke Rosberg finished 2nd with the Williams.
      Alain Prost came home 3rd in his Renault turbo.
      *Both* Piquet and Rosberg were found to be underweight so *Prost won the race.*
      San Marino GP 1985 Imola
      Alain Prost won the race but the car was found to be underweight and Elio de Angelis inherited the race win.
      I suppose his good fortune winning the Brazilian GP in 1982 evened itself out with bad fortune in this race in 1985.
      Interestingly enough Piquet, Rosberg and Prost were all champions in F1.
      Will George Russell join this list?

    A set of F1 tyres (minus rims) weighs 42kg when new but can lose as much as 3kg in wear during a long stint. This is even more so at Spa. Moreover, the Spa has no cooldown lap, so there is no rubber pick-up. You often hear engineers tell their drivers to pick up rubber at the end of the race. Now you know why. They do the maths on very fine calculations.

      They did the second weighing with a new set of tyres and it still was under weight, Mercedes knew this even as George crossed the finish line, they had obviously done something specific to George's car to give George an unfair advantage and knew they were caught, there have been times in the past I've suspected MB of cheating back in the rosberg WDC days, too many odd things happened to Lewis's car to be just accidental, sad for George but MB got caught and they will be scrutinised even more now.

      I guess this situation has never really occurred before, but it seems pretty unfair to base the minimum weight to include something so variable like tyre weight. They remove the fuel before weighing. Plus George most likely weighs slightly more than the minimum driver weight of 80kg in his kit based on his height, so very unlikely he gained a competitive advantage.

It's one of those unfortunate things where you can't dispute it because everyone has the same technical specs. According to information via a tweet from Ruth Buscombe (former F1 race strategist, now F1TV commentator) the weight issue could be attributed to the one stop strategy causing the tyres to be extra worn, as well as no victory lap when driving off track to wave to fans can cause loose rubber and other substances to embed and add that weight back onto the tyres.
    Aside: I think no victory lap is terrible. Fans like to cheer the drivers on their victory laps, I'm sure the drivers like that too.

    • @BryTee
      @BryTee Před měsícem +2

      @@PHXVR I disagree. Checking the driver cams, there are tens of thousands of fans from the pit exit all the way up Eau Rouge, and along Kemmel straight. OK, it's a bit sparse from turns 5-9, but turn 10-11 has thousands there. Although I agree there's not a lot from there to the Bus Stop.
      My point is all those people see them still racing the last lap, but never see them again after the win. I've read elsewhere that fans do feel deprived of the victory lap.
      Yes, the track is the longest, but I don't see that as much of an excuse as it's only about 1km more than Silverstone and Baku, and they have victory laps.

    I must have missed something, Georges car was weighed in the condition it existed when it crossed the finish line and it was legal. In my 50+ years of racing from karts on up that is the end of the story. But F1 then removed 2.8ltr of fuel for testing and weighed the car a second time and now it is too light. The problem I have with this is that the second weight is NOT the condition the car was in when it crossed the finish line. If this is the normal post race test procedure for F1 that is just stupid. Is there someplace where the public can go to read the actual F1 rules?

    Even more upsetting is that the car was NOT underweight. As they were carrying the fuel and ‘using it as ballast’ - so there appears to be no benefit, but the rule is from when cars refuelled - that way one could run their car ‘underweight’ until the last fuel stop

    It looks like Mercedes tried to pull a fast one (cheating) when they told the scrutineers that the fuel was drained, when in fact, 2.8 liters of fuel were still in the tank. Once all the fuel was drained out, the car was under weight. I feel for George, but it has happened to others over the years, Vettel and Ricciardo comes to mind, and It's always the teams fault. The driver is just doing the driving, they don't have a fuel gauge in the car. Mercedes should be ashamed of itself and fined severely. Is Toto losing it?

      Before the current regulations, the teams were always running their cars close to being underweight. Most of the top teams back then actually added ballast to bring the car up to the minimum weight. A light weighing driver would get a slight benefit as they can add the ballast to get the car to weigh more evenly across the whole of the car. Drivers back then would always pick up the marbles off the track on the slow down lap after the chequered flag to ensure the car met the required minimum lap.

    One stop means more tyre wear and no slow down lap means no marbles pick up to bring the weight up. 1.5kgs from the used rubber would be easy. Lewis’s tyres were less worn than George’s which would have been accounted for in the calculation.

    • @iamhupahupa
      @iamhupahupa Před měsícem +1

      Can’t Mercedes argued this and prove their car is legal by reweigh with proper tyres? I have a feeling that Merc messed up the ballast and George’s been driving car with 1.5kg lighter than everyone else from the very beginning.

      @@tommloye4626 I understand they can, there’s a number of people in the media suggesting that it’s likely that the tyres are a part of the problem. If Lewis’s car was ok and the cars are identical why the difference?

    • @tommloye4626
      @tommloye4626 Před měsícem

      @@pjmack75 Well, to start, cars are never “identical.” Teams don’t always give the exact same upgrades to both cars…nor are they set up the same with ballast weight.
      Next, there is no indication Hamilton’s car was even inspected after the race. It may have been, but only a handful of cars are selected for post-race inspections…4-5 usually.

    Toto & AMG did a retro F1 strategy that works especially when you race an old circuit like SPA that has lots of tire wear data all the way back to the 1970's of no PITSTOPS.
    This was a brilliant experiment to revisit as the fuel became lighter on those grade of Pirelli tires with one stop! Back in the late 1970's i loved watching those skilled F1 Legends Lauda Scheckter Hunt and Watson drive their cars in the later laps with sticky worn slicks and a light fuel load on a big thirsty track...Toto took a page from those days and it worked! However the FIA WAS CAUGHT WITH ITS PANTS DOWN AND DI NOT WANT THIS OLD SCHOOL METHOD TO TAKE ROOT AGAIN!
