    Great video. Green is used because our eyes are most sensitive to green light. Given the same power output, human eyes would judge the green light to be brighter. That's why green laser pointers are used when visibility is crucial, especially in daylight e.g. by astronomers pointing at far objects, and as target markers for weaponry.
    In contrast, or eyes are least sensitive to red light. That's why they are used when night vision is important. Since red light affect our irises the least, they remain wide open in the presence of red light, allowing to see other things when it's dark. That's why red is used on darkened theaters to illuminate the aisles as well as EXIT signs. It's least distracting to our vision of the stage. In other words, it's a trade-off: Green is best in an emergency but red is preferable in darkened environments where we need to see other things.

    Unless you're a big corporation like Walmart or McDonald's. That's smart and has been through it with the cheap stuff and has learned their lesson that the cheap stuff ends up being more expensive than the expensive stuff. As I've been told you have to spend a dollar to save a dime.

    I went to a school built in 1960. They still had the original 1960s signs. I remember kids would occasionally steel the plastic front, so the maintenance guy had to keep installing new ones. Often times he's buy them, but they were larger than the fixture, so he'd have to trim them. Sometimes that meant the T in EXIT was cut off.

    Great Video! Just would like to point out. A non maintained quality sign will last just as long as a generic sign if it is not maintained properly. ALL signs need maintenance eventually. No sign on the market will ever be able to maintain itself. Every sign dies eventually. Dual Lite, Sure Lites, and Lithonia are the best brands imo.

    • @FireAlarmDude5967
      @FireAlarmDude5967  Před 3 lety +2

      Ehh, somewhat. A high quality sign goes years without maintenance, a generic sign will after a very short amount of time. Per say, dual lite products don’t die nearly as much as generic garbage. Lithonia lighting was good, however they’re just generic nowadays, same with sure likes. Dual lite is my favorite

      @@FireAlarmDude5967 Sure, a higher quality sign will live longer than a generic sign. Lithonia, Sure Lites, and Dual Lite are all in the same league. Lithonia does have some generic options, yes. Sure Lites, haven't seen generic products from Sure Lites before. Hubbell has compass as their generic brand. everything needs maintenance eventually. Dual Lites I would bet would last the longest. But yes, I would feel a lot better in a building with name brand products, than generic garbage. I would feel comfortable relying on name brands. :)

    2:34 They use the color white to reflect the light. Same thing is used in some landscape path lights and even with the EST Genesis strobes. I made a DIY “Hat” style pathway light and the brightness difference was huge when I painted the inside white. But I would say those emergency lights could be good for small rooms. Im getting one of those soon. I do not expect it to be bright but its an emergency light and should light up enough to navigate my room.

    Even as an American, I feel like the green running man exit signs that you see in Europe are more consistent than the ones found in the United States. They’re always one color, and they have the same pictogram no matter where you go. As an extra bonus, they can be read by anyone no matter what language someone speaks. That’s why they commonly have no lettering on them.

    The main entrance/lobby at my school doesn’t have an exit sign physically installed below the doorway, I’m guessing because of low ceiling clearance. But there are exit signs in different rooms that lead to the main entrance. Half of their emergency lighting was vintage, and one of them was in my old classroom.

    Even though you could argue my options are not valid as i live in a country where the “running man” signs are the standard, i feel as though the green exit signs would be better when it comes to foreigners, as at least where i live, green is typically an “egress” or “escape route” colour
    And where i live, fire exit doors even have green signs on them with instructions on how to open the door (which is a bit ridiculous most of the time as it is a case of “push bar to open”, i can understand it where you have to manually unlock a lock)

    So my church was in need of new exit signs and we got these torchstar combos. They were were like $25 per unit, at first I was worried about quality due to how cheap they are. But, we had the power go out at night and the emergency lights were very bright and lit up everything. We’ve had them for over a year and they are still doing well.
