Hi Tristan, some 30 years ago as a child my father taught me how to fish with long bare rod and a fly but moving downstream only. Now I got proper tenkara gears and catch mostly browns here in Bulgaria. By watching your videos I have learnt a lot about the technique you do and became a very inspired angler.

One of your tenkara disciples here in the Iowa Driftless. Two years ago I hardly ever fished; since then (mostly due to your inspiration) I get out once or twice a week. Mostly wild browns here with the occasional stocker/hold-over rainbow. The Iowa Driftless also has the westernmost creek in the continental U.S. with native, wild brook trout. Thanks for sharing!

Southwest ID (Nampa). So far I have tried to fish all the local ponds, lakes and lately trying to hit the rivers like the Boise river and Payette river. I had a bad injury to my right arm a year ago so my Tenkara days have been postponed for a bit. I have been tagging creaks in the meantime on Google maps for when I can start exploring.
I started getting back into fishing right when covid started. I started with bass and crappie. I started on trout last spring. Tried my luck with fly fishing and failed miserably but haven't given up. You keep me inspired along with the tuber "Bass'N'Trout" who is mainly a spinning reel genius with trout. Finding the spots and learning the lures is where I am now. Hoping to become proficient in Tenkara someday soon though. Like you, I prefer places less traveled or fished.
Thank you for the time you spend sharing and editing.

That stream was indeed a gem! I’m in Virginia - my fishing is approximately 20% for native brook trout in small mountain streams, and 80% for sunfish in a couple local public ponds. Those percentages are the reverse of my outings long ago. But the aging process makes the mountain treks a bit less ambitious these days - but valued more. Nearly all my outings now are tenkara; only rarely does a conventional fly rod tag along. I greatly look forward to your new episodes each week!

I live in Roseville, CA - just about an hour and 30 minutes from Lake Tahoe so I have all the rivers and streams in the Tahoe Sierra to choose from. There are many that are just perfect for Tenkara. I live at about 250 feet of elevation but I can be up at 6000 or 7000 feet in about an hour and 15 minutes of driving. I fish Tenkara about 30 times a year but do some traditional fly fishing as well. My first rod was the Luong Tam Tanuki Ninja rod and I still use it. All 'round great rod. I just caught a 36" Lahontan Cutthroat BEAST in Pyramid lake on an 8 weight rod, throwing large articulated streamers. Landing it was an epic battle. Released it of course. The following week I was catching beautiful 8 to 10 inch brook trout on the West Carson River at high elevations. So many adventures, so little time. I'm on the Board of Directors of a large fly fishing club (350 members) in Granite Bay and we have a group of members that mostly fish Tenkara - there are about 25 of us. We've had Luong Tam (Tanuki Tenkara) as a speaker at our monthly meeting a couple of times. Funny guy!

Usually when fly fishing we target these these brookies im small streams or lakes, however when flyfishing we also target smallmouth, northern pike, carp, panfish and most recently rainbows. I watched to the end, because I don’t want to miss anything. I live in NC, a long drive from our trout fishing. I fish some with my brother in VA trout streams. Looking forward to trying tenkara this summer. Tied a variety of flies with yarn bodies this winter, copying some of your patterns.

I can’t wait to get my first ever tankera rod I fish for large mouth bass and I’m always missing my target and landing my lure on the bank of the canal. The only trout around these parts is speckled trout. And you only catch those on salt water. Stay safe and keep making those videos thier so entertaining I love all the places that you go to. So beautiful

Like Your videos alot. I've never fished tenkara, but I do fish ultra light equipment on the truckee and out at Pyramid lake. My favorite combo for Pyramid is an ultra light St Croix rod in 7 ft. length With a Pflueger reel with 6 lb. Spiderwire mono, I can really feel the light hitters and the fight is indescribable! I release everything I can. My biggest is a 17.8 lb. Lahontan cut throat that I caught with a white popcorn beatle. That was quite the fight and took a long time to revive and release. Anyway keep fishing and videoing as you have made winter in Nevada a little easier to take

Thanks Tristan for another great video, fun with branches along the creek. Not a bad creek, seemed to be supporting a lot of trout. My last trout outing was the Driftless area of NE Iowa. I fish more in warm water near Davenport Iowa. Tie almost all of my flies, and I have tied several Tenkara type flies that I will try on my standard 5wt. My wife is just starting and fishing Tenkara type line/leader may be more intuitive for her. We will see how it works out.

Generally keep it pretty close so lower streams here hold pretty much all rainbow and browns. Caught my first Brooke last week!
