- Hi in this video I will do my best to show you how to remove your vct transmission filter on your Honda Civic this one is a 2015
every 30,000 miles
2014 and up Honda Civic Transmission Fluid

If you don't routinely change your fluids at least every 30,000 miles or so, you may find that your 2014 Honda Civic transmission will slip.
1995
Cool! I thought. Nowadays, Honda has embraced CVTs in several of their models, but their first experiment with CVTs was the 1995 Honda Civic HX - Auta a dopravní prostředky
Vent tube? I had no idea about this.....NONE....until Nestor, Da Man, said something about it! He saved my CVT trans in my 2014 Honda Civic from going bad!!! Thanks Nestor!!! As stated, You Da Man, Bro!
Thanks boss 🙏 I really appreciate you taking the time to give me a good feedback 💪
I just did this. Thank you so much!! Honda says - "there's no filter". what bs from them.
You know it now , thanks for your feedback
@@nestorautorepair If you could find and add the torque specs it would be helpful. My understanding from other sources is that it's pretty low (I found a very similar mitsubishi CVT cooler that calls for 7 ft-lbs for example)
Fantastic video! So helpful, thanks for posting!
Your welcome boss thanks for your feedback
Hey Nestor thanks so much for the video. I’ve seen quite a few videos and none of them talk about that filter!! Thx again
Yes sir your welcome boss thanks for your feedback
Hi Nestor. I went to Honda dealer looking for the filter and they said what filter? Like no clue. And then, the guy said “ oh that one? You never change it “. I left a bit confused, it doesn’t make sense to me that a filter will last forever. Please advise.
Note: I think that the filter that Honda parts online sales is the correct one. Part# 25450-P4V-013
Do you know if this is the one I need?
Thank you for your help
Great video. Thanks for posting!!
thanks bro this was very helpful
U are welcome bro , thanks for your feedback
Its good practice to pull the vent tube 9f the trans and clean any debris out of it. Its common issue on these cars the vent gets clogged and the internal pressure blows the fill plug out. Just learned this the hard way at 58k miles. Thanks for the video was wanting to know about the filter
You welcome thanks for your tips and your feedback
Hello there, sorry for asking but where is the vent tube 9f? And how do you clean it. Thx for your help
Never mind, I saw one of Nestor’s videos showing it. Thx
I would clean the filter housing surface and the oil cooler surface as well as to change the two others rubber gaskets, and be more careful not putting the filter on the ground. But the most difficult job we could learn with your video. Cheers!!
Thanks Leonardo
To check the proper level of the cvt transmission fluid, there is a check hole that has a check bolt that you take out and then as you fill in the transmission fluid, watch for the fluid to spill from that check hole. Once it starts to spill, then you know for sure that you have the proper level of the fluid. Don’t just estimate it because you can underfill or overfill it.
Hi, could you tell mi size of inlet hoses connecting cvt with cooler?
Where can I buy the filter? Just went to auto zone and oreillys and they don't carry it.
Thank you
You're welcome.
Nice 💖
😍 thanks
It won't flow perhaps because the little vent rubber thingy is clogged...which can cause the rubber filler plug to pop out!
Yooo Nestor I got a 2014 EX civic that filter is the same for my car ??? i've changed the transmission fluid couples of month ago, but I did not change that filter I need to do it ASAP ???
Yes same ,, you need to do it
Hii i need your help, my 2016 civic 1.5 turbo has problem on the CVT transmission, i have a CVT transmission from a 2017 civic 2.0 naturally aspirated, they are the same transmission? Tks
That's a good question , I'm not sure if the 2.0 is a cvt trans
Is the filter you have in the video the same as this filter? " ATP B-264 Automatic Transmission Filter Kit" For 2015 Honda Civic LX 2 door 1.8L CTV transmission, Will this filter work?
Yes they are the same
Ummm... you supposed to take the trans pan down and replace the filter thats in there as well plus need to clean the magnets, when you remove the filter thats in the pan about half extra quart of oil will cone out.
At least 2016 Honda Civic has a filter in the trans pan.
I looked up the part number 96086 on advance auto parts and it says that it does not fit a 2015 honda civic lx CVT.
AutoZone is where I got it from,, all cvt Honda Civic Accord are the same filter
When you change the filter and re-circulate the fluid when driving the car ,you need to check the level with the check bolt after bringing it to operating temperature. Yes it's more annoying to do because you have to close everything up. go for a short drive, cycle through all the gears, then jack the car up again and check.
Yes correct
@Skwealer how do you determine correct CVT fluid level On honda?
@@ricstars95 once you cycle through the gears there is a bolt you need to take out (above and to the right of the drain) I'd check Honda forums for the location or there's other CZcams videos that show the location. But once you take it off you add more fluid until it comes out of the hole of the bolt you took off. Once it comes out you're at the proper level.
Thanks for sharing
@@jordanrose9660 thanks, Jordan. really helpful👍
Have 130k miles on my civic fluids never been chabged would you recommend changing it with filter or do you think it will slip if i do
Wow that's risky , if is super black just add some don't change it
On mine that plug cap keeps popping out and I read online it was a clogged vent how ever I’ve cleaned it and still pops out.
Do you think it’s because my filter is clogged or is it something els?.
Recommended interval for that CVT fluid warner filter change?
Never.
A good practice for the CVT fluid is to replace about every 30,000 miles. And in my experience change the filter at least once before 100K miles, and I like to replace the filter every other CVT fluid change.
👍
How many miles on the fluid and filter you changed? Filter looks like might be able to replace every other fluid change? I have a customer with a 2017 Civic CVT with 73K miles. Planning to replace fluid and filter at 78K.
every 30,000 miles
2014 Honda Civic Transmission Fluid
If you don't routinely change your fluids at least every 30,000 miles or so, you may find that your 2014 Honda Civic transmission will slip.
@@nestorautorepair See revised question above.
Yes replace it both and from now on every 30k
@@nestorautorepair Thank you. Your fluid doesn't look very good with only 30K. I'm surprised since most CVTs appear to be pretty easy on fluid. Unlike Honda ATs that wear out the fluid in 20K to 30K miles. Yours looks worse than this 2017 with 73K. Your filter didn't look too bad. Thanks again for the feedback.
Yes sir thanks for your feedback as well all this cars are customer cars they are not my lol
Oil need to be from dealer?
Have a additives on the other way you go to have problems.
Not really just make sure is made for Honda
Hi, where did you purchase the car lift rise?
From stratus
@@nestorautorepair thanks! Great video as well.
Thanks
I found this video Under someone else's video where the transmission Plug popped out then Read comments and found this video Did my transmission plug up top pop out possibly because the filter is dirty Thanks. also just recently bought the 2015 honda civic has a 103.000 miles Not sure if the previous owner changed the transmission oil but no slipping
Hi I recommend you replace the trans fluid to be safe , also I have a link on how to fix this problem under this video is the link
@@nestorautorepair OK thanks for your help and I did see your other video
Thanks boss
What’s the update did it help I’m having the same issue
When I got this filter it came with o-rings and it came with a flat gasket like you would see on a normal transmission. Did anybody get that flat gasket with beers as well and they didn't need it. And I got the o-rings from the Honda dealership and I can see that it might not be the right size from the dealership which sucks.
Wow
ATP B-264 Automatic Transmission Filter Kit is this the one youre talking about? I got this one too but im afraid to put it on because Im not sure why it came with the tranny pan gasket if this doesnt even require touching the pan . Did you put it on and does it work so far?
@@allthingshiphop1151 I did not use the flat gasket I just use the socket to take out the plug.
@@briankelley7918 can you tell me the brand name of the part you bought?
If your has a pan yes there is another one in there as well , but this one you can just get it clean out
I worked for Honda 5 years. No one ever told me it had a filter. 🤔😠
First time I asked when I was rookie. They said they don't have any. So I never worried about it. Glad I don't work there now.
Wow , thanks for your feedback boss , we learn something everyday
For a noob, other than jacking the car wrong and dropping it on yourself or rounding bolts by using wrong tools or right tools wrong, is there any serious damage you could accidentally do to your car by doing this yourself that would cost you more to fix it later?
My CVT is already messed up from a well meaning but ill informed mechanic who used wrong fluid years ago but I don't know specifically what damage was done. Changing the fluid with a solid mechanic helps a lot, but I'm concerned to keep it going it will be a regular (and expensive) process, although way cheaper than car payments.
Luckily the rest of car seems to be holding up just fine with no issues, except perhaps leaky air conditioning which according to my friends seems to be a common issue with civics. Transmissions are complex and I don't want to bung anything up while trying to fix it! Thanks.
Amen
suggestion: Listing the year of the car would be helpful
Yes this one is a 2015 boss but the are all the same some year will not make a different if it has a cvt transmission this is the video for it
Thats what they are calling the cvt fluid warmer. Its a short distance fuel efficiency thing. The faster the fluid gets to the temperature it should be, the better the fuel efficiency, even at short distances. It's obviously better for the viscosity factors. Its meant ( according to Honda dealership here..) to last the lifetime of the cvt. Just saying is all. I asked when I got my fluid just now because if it needed to be changed then I wanted to get it as well. Of course I'm not the expert here...
Sure when your trans give up call them ,, I'm a mechanic and I seen lots of those trans go bad ,, best luck boos
Thanks boss yeas all the info is also on the bottom lol
Is that stp fluid the same as Honda cvt fluid?
They will work the same yes , but honda oil will be better
what about the filter in the pan?
I don't believe your car has one
@@nestorautorepair 2016 Fit has one, i believe the has one as well.
Ok
Didnt it have a pan filter? My hrv has 2
Yes there is another filter inside the tranny, need to pull down the pan to replace if needed.
Where can I buy the parts?
Any auto parts have it
@@nestorautorepair ok thank u very much
You welcome Gabriel
Would help to know generation
2014
So the oil coming out from the filter is transmission fluid ?
Yes
