Made for Sonic's 30th Anniversary, but it took longer than I expected it to be. I took my sweet time working on not just the mashup, but the video itself (published it up to 6 times since I keep spotting mistakes or pieces I just wasn't happy with).
"Stairway To The Skies" is a beautifully meloncholic song, but when mixed with "Open Your Heart", it transforms from a song about moving towards the light into a song about desperate plea for survival. I specifically used the Generations remix as the basis as the stripped & distorted vocals worked best in this context. Only during the last chorus does the originnal takes over. It's a powerful mashup for a series that's still running strong for over 3 decades straight.
Tikal is a focal point to this mashup, so I included both the Japanese & English prayers from Adventure by Kaori Asoh & Elara Distler (the first mantra was extracted from an episode of Sonic X). The mashup was going to feature more voice clips & acapellas, but it sounded overbearing & clashing.
This was a long wait, but I hope you guys enjoy this one.

Astonishing mashup! It captures the atmosphere of the destroyed city and the fear of its survived citizens really well. I imagine Sonic looking around and sheding tears because of the horror he sees. He looks at his friends and pulls himself together because he knows that there is something left to lose and he has to save it. He transforms into Super Sonic and fights Chaos, while still struggling with his own fear and despair. He screams because of these emotions, when the "What I'm Made Of" part plays. While the "Stairway To The Sky" vocals are playing, I imagine Tikal realizing that she saw this nightmare before and thinking about humanity dying out the same way her clan did.
"Open Your Heart" was epic, but this song is much more powerful. Thank you so much for this masterpiece!
I don’t know why, but 4:16, that transition from Sonic Adventure into the new game teaser made me tear up a bit. Almost like we’re shown how far Sonic has come since his Genesis and Dreamcast days. It’s been rough for the blue dude recently, but if he can rise to greatness once, it can happen again. We can only hope.

I was expecting an fast and crazy Open Your Heart battle, but this was even more powerful.....
It feels like Sonic reflecting on his actions that day of Perfect Chaos's destruction.
Like a Generations "re-battle" with the seriousness that Forces could've had (From the trailer alone)
The reflections of the events from SA1 and Sonic X with the word and quotes made this all the more intimate.
It felt like this was truly going to be the death of Sonic and the entire universe if not stopped.
The death of one era for another.
(That "What I'm Made Of" was BEAUTIFULLY AWESOME. I could've sworn I heard a soft "His World" in the background, but that just might be me. Masterful work, Hyper-Shan.) :')

Watching this I suddenly remembered:
A lot of people died that day, didn't they.
This is one of the best mashup's I've ever heard. Why? It changes the tone to a more dire desperate one, but keeps that vibe of finality. It's as if Super Sonic was not enough to quell Chaos. It's too much to handle, but not impossible. This is probably my favourite version of the song now, it's that powerful. Stellar job!! Any chance you could create a FLAC version of this? It deserves tp be preserved in that quality.
Knocked it out of the park with this one, it gave me shivers! Honestly didn't know what I was in for because I saw "Open Your Heart" and assumed it'd be a fast-paced mashup. Crazy-great subversion right there.

Thanks! Yeah, I already have an idea for a What I’m Made Of mashup. Been testing it out but I lack a decent instrumental of the opposing song, so I’m keeping it on the backlog (it’s also for another potential mashup album).
