The band screwed their real original bassist Ron McGovney out of royalties. Dave Mustaine says they screwed him too, giving his royalties to Kirk Hammett. I don't think they even knew Cliff's dad very well. On a happy note, Ray Burton has said he donates all of his late sons royalties to a music scholarship program through Cliff's old high school.

But, as I became of age in the 90's I picked up "Jailbreak" from an old used record shop and that was it. I legit bought every studio record and popped my headphones and was whisked away for nights by their amazing musicianship. Phil Lynott was one hell of a bass player and lyricist. The fact that most present day and past rock bands have TL in their collection speaks huge volumes about just how great and influential that band truly was. I did see there has been a recent documentary done on Lynott that was released in theaters, but being in Wisconsin there wasn't any that showed it. But, I'll be picking it up or streaming it from Amazon in no time. Such a great band

Just awesome that he kept them all. They meant the world to Cliff, I’m sure. His love of Thin Lizzy must’ve been why he chose playing the Bass. I’ve often thought about how much different the band would’ve evolved had he not lost his life so young.

I own almost every one of those albums too. Cliff smashed all those influences into something new, and early Metallica changed rock going forward. Spandex and hair product got pushed aside by jeans and t-shirts, and fancy melodies gave way to raunchy rhythms and unorthodox solos. I first heard Metallica in 1983 when Tony Berardini (WBCN Boston) played Phantom Lord on his "Heavy Metal From Hell" show, and I was a changed rock fan. Metallica was such a sincere, aggressive and great band. Glad Cliff's dad is proud of his son. He should be.

On a happy note, Ray Burton has said he donates all of his late sons royalties to a music scholarship program through Cliff's old high school.

But, as I became of age in the 90's I picked up "Jailbreak" from an old used record shop and that was it. I legit bought every studio record and popped my headphones and was whisked away for nights by their amazing musicianship. Phil Lynott was one hell of a bass player and lyricist. The fact that most present day and past rock bands have TL in their collection speaks huge volumes about just how great and influential that band truly was. I did see there has been a recent documentary done on Lynott that was released in theaters, but being in Wisconsin there wasn't any that showed it. But, I'll be picking it up or streaming it from Amazon in no time. Such a great band

Just awesome that he kept them all. They meant the world to Cliff, I’m sure. His love of Thin Lizzy must’ve been why he chose playing the Bass. I’ve often thought about how much different the band would’ve evolved had he not lost his life so young.

Phil Lynott and Gary Moore, "Out in the Feilds," Cliff had to love that song. Of course, Maiden is the all-time best. Too bad Cliff just missed Somewhere In Time. :/

I own almost every one of those albums too. Cliff smashed all those influences into something new, and early Metallica changed rock going forward. Spandex and hair product got pushed aside by jeans and t-shirts, and fancy melodies gave way to raunchy rhythms and unorthodox solos. I first heard Metallica in 1983 when Tony Berardini (WBCN Boston) played Phantom Lord on his "Heavy Metal From Hell" show, and I was a changed rock fan. Metallica was such a sincere, aggressive and great band. Glad Cliff's dad is proud of his son. He should be.
