Ever had a long layover in Denver and wanted to get out of the airport and explore? Anyone who knows Denver knows that the airport is far from downtown - not the old Stapleton Airport anymore.
Opening in April 2016, Denver's RTD "A" Line inaugurated rail service between downtown Denver (Union Station) and Denver International Airport known by locals as DIA. There are 6 stops between DIA and downtown.
A "DAY PASS" is good all day on all lines. Discounted tickets are also available. Click the link below for schedule and fare information:

When I visited Denver last October I took their train from the airport. I stayed downtown Denver so it was very convenient. I’m going again next month in May. I will take the train to my hotel again. Hopefully it won’t be cold. 🥶
I'm glad every one is liking the rtd commuter rail and I ride it every week with my dad because we get free ride because my dad works for a paring company with rtd called denver transit operators and they do the a b and g line
Hey I’m wanting to visit there in February so my kids & I can do some snow activities. I’m staying downtown on 15th st, does the train go to any of the mountains where we could do like snow tubing. Or anywhere close where Uber would be cheaper. Thanks I’m advanced 😊
@@mariahpeterson524 the rtd commuter rail dose not go to the mountains but the Amtrak sky train goes in the mountains so you can get in that

@@mariahpeterson524 I dont have Instagram but you got this you got this Colorado is a safe place dia has a lots of people who will help you rtd has security guards on board they will tell you where to go and on board amtrak they will tell you stuff if you ask I believe in you
@@mariahpeterson524 and the amtrak sky train will go in to Vail or winter park and they is skying and tubing and a rtd a line ticket is 10 dollars and a Amtrak is like 80

My son and I are on our way to Salt Lake City, UT to help Grandma and Grandpa. We have a layover in Denver from 5pm to 10am. This warrants a hotel and a quick, let's see what we can in Denver while we are here! This video is so helpful! Was thinking about booking the Westin and just riding the train to union station and back for a little, cheap and low maintenance sight seeing.
There's a great hotel called the Crawford at Union Station downtown Denver just steps from the train. The area is chock full of restaurants and Coors Field is blocks away.

This was good advice too late. 😂 A couple years ago, I had a six hour layover at DIA on my trip home from Florida and spent the entire thing in the Terminal. I'll absolutely remember this if I'm stuck in that kind of situation again!
I never been in Denver and am surprised to see how dry the land is. I expected to see much more greenery than this.
Denver sits in a desert. Other than along the small waterways, the landscape depends on mankind.

Planning to go tomorrow to Denver to catching the opening game vs the Dodgers. If my flight was an hr earlier I would’ve taken the train. I will definitely ride it back to the airport. Thanks for posting this video.

One thing I love about Chicago, train from downtown to the airport, or airport to downtown cost $2.50.
The Blue Line is indeed convenient even if it has more stops than the Denver RTD. We need more airports in the US that have rail service to downtown. 😎✈️🚂🚃🚃🚃

I didn’t know there was a train when I went we got a rental for 2 days 😩 and paid lots of monies . Going again this time taking the train to downtown our hotel is about 5 mins from Union station😊

I agree.... In warmer weather time permitting, I enjoy a train ride to downtown for a meal in any of the nearby restaurants including the Denver Chop House even though there is a Denver Chophouse at the airport. Thanks for watching and for supporting this channel :) Happy travels and safe flying :)

Just the video I was looking for. Thank so much! I have a 15 hr layover next week and I'm so anxious. Is it just as easy to get a ticket and ride the train back to the airport? Plus what's a good time to be heading back to the airport? Like 5 hours before my flight time?
International or domestic flight? Do you have TSA PreChek or Clear - get you thru security faster…
Domestic - leave 3 hours prior to departure..

I have not done the walk from A to the Airport Station. As for taking the airport tram from A, I’d say it’s about 5 minutes after you get off the tram at the main terminal to the airport station
I took the light rail from Denver Airport to Union Station three weeks ago. I noticed a lot of homeless people and the smell of pot smoke was everywhere!

Downtown Denver Union station, is it easy to learn the bus system to get around town? How much is a bus ticket?

Yes. There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance of Denver Union Station which also has light rail connections to greater Denver. Depending on what time of day and season you arrive, you might be able to take in a concert at Red Rocks Amphitheater 😎 which is truly impressive.

Jacket, absolutely. Denver is very chilly in December.

just an FYI you should never ever leave the airport or go outside security checkpoint on a layover. Just because there a train to take you from the airport to the city if the train brakes down or has mecanical issue your basically in trouble
That's why you need ample amount of time... Atleast 5 hours minimum
GregSmith I use to travel in and out of Denver until 2008 when you had a layover no matter if it’s 3 or 7 hour layover just stay put walk around but stay inside security and keep track of time
Rtd repairs the trains from tob to bottom every day and they will do a thing called a running brake test and positive train control will stop it if the brakes don't work or if anything doesn't and they use dynamic braking not air brakes like in freight trains
@Doug Sawyer my dad operates the a line and they only have ptc problems and crossing and sometimes the operators go through the phase break wrong and that cuts all the power
