I find it funny how Nephi just sounds like some random guy while he’s talking about killing people
He's ex-Mormon. You can learn about him from Bert from Aerotech Office Park.
Besides Motor Driver, he honestly sounds like the chillest dude of the fiends. If you don’t give him a reason to bash your skull open, he sounds like he would split a beer with you. Or maybe give you a huff of his Jet, in this case.
There's a lot of implication that he's only a fiend in terms of hierarchy. He's a calculated psychopath who loves murder, he might not even do drugs, the fiends are just convenient for him to keep doing what he loves. That kind of makes him freakier in my opinion, he's not just a desert rat conditioned to kill like a rabid animal after getting pumped full of psycho, he actively chose this life like he's a watered down Judge Holden.
It just occurred to me that when cook-cook says *Maybe I'll make you dinner sometime* he's probably saying that he'll turn you into dinner, not cook dinner for you.
Then again there's also a 50% chance that he offered you a nice home cooked meal
@@Sumschmuck Yeah I think that´s a wordplay right there, it has double sense, he could either cook you a meal made from some lost NCR scout or he could cook YOU for a meal.
I've always had a 50/50 shot at the 3 of them being non-hostile for whatever reason on vanilla.
Yeah, something is left over in the main game from the code where they used to not be automatically hostile. Back in the day I always thought it was odd and it made me think that maybe I’d missed something or messed something up
@@chompythebeast I personally always liked the idea of high ranking raiders not immediately being hostile. Maybe they can use you or they've been around long enough to recognize how dangerous the player character is and it's not worth getting involved.

Unfortunately due to lack of time, these lines likely wouldn’t have fit anywhere in the game with the Fiends being left a nearly entirely hostile faction (outside of interactions with Motor-Runner).

@@LucyWest370 thats not as simple as you think it is, to go through an entire faction and make all of it so that they have unique reactions and hostility levels based on your reputation with them and what they like and dont like and all of that, especially with everything they had already done. Reminder, Obsidian only had a year and a half to make and ship New Vegas, while Bethesda usually give themselves roughly 6 years
@@noelleholiday61 literally just don’t make fiends hostile to you on sight unless you shoot them in the face. This would make 3 card bounty slightly more interesting and they wouldn’t have to just be just another raider gang.

Cook-Cook is definitely the worst of them, but the dialogue makes Violet seem like the most insane of the three despite Dhatri's comment, and Nephi just seems like a dick rather than a chem addict. When Violet speaks I can just imagine her making wild gestures and emoting like the crazy person she is, which makes it a real shame they couldn't really animate conversations. Love how it fleshes the characters out, but I can also understand why it was all cut, because why would these murderous psychopaths talk to an outsider?

Cook-Cook was always my favourite, his voiceacting is so simultaniously threatening and affable. In combination with not being able to see his face, and disproportionately heinous crimes, he feels EXACTLY like a villain from some exploitation horror flick ala Cannibal Holocaust. Totally perfect blend of terrifying and cheesy.
He operates on a totally different morality. He actually thinks he’s being friendly and nice to you.
Triangle City is the GOAT.

FNV would have been GOTY with all that cut content left in and a extra year of dev time
With a whole extra year they’d make the entire half of the map east of the colorado river traversable legion territory and probably the northwest and northeast corners of the map would be filled. The worst cut thing is the airport at the south of the map, it is just a non enterable building with a giant runway around it and nothing to find, it is just sad
If only Bethesda would be willing to work with Obsidian again to release a FNV remaster with all cut contents.

FUN FACT: If you talk to Nephi or Cook-Cook while being a female, Cook-Cook will greet you with a creepy line. I think its "hey sweetie want a ride on the cook cook express?" and while talking to Nephi, he will warn you not to go too close to cook-cook since u are a lady.

Cook-Cook says "Hey, there SWEET THING!" (plus Cook-Cook express part), and Nephi's warning is something along the lines of, "Cook-Cook, you really don't want him to catch you alone..."

I thought you can get the voice lines without the mod. Just have to pass a speech check when you get to the vault saying your selling drugs, and when you sell them enough drugs they will leave you alone. Well that’s what I remember back when I played it on 360.

I think both of you guys may be misremembering as I’ve been playing Vanilla for NV for at least 10 years. It’s definitely never been an option.

Nephi is one of the few true psychopaths in the game. He marches into gunfights with a golf club and uses his men as shields. He takes multiple sniper rounds and keeps going. He isn't remotely phased when someone comes to his hideout looking for him.

I’ve always liked Driver Nephi’s dialogue. Unlike the rest of the fiends, Nephi appears less deranged from the overuse of chems and more bored from his life in the wasteland.

I like how they didn’t give consistent direction to the voice actors on how Nephi’s name is pronounced. It’s one thing for the NCR to get it wrong, but Violet ought to know better
Funny thing is, the canonical name is technically incorrect unless it comes from Spanish. Nephi, in English is traditionally pronounced to rhyme with "knee thigh." In Spanish, it's pronounced to rhyme with "reggie." In game, it's consistently all over the place and seemingly never the correct one. Even when they use the right pronunciation, the inflections are wrong. Just a funny thing

There's also hidden dialogue with Bert Gunnarsson about nephi being part of the mormon church, really wasted potential for a redeem arc for him, in the final game bert will comment about nephi's death too
From what I can piece together there was supposed to be a quest line where you help the fiends take over camp mccarren. Probably would have started with motor runner telling you to go to his lieutenants and help them sabotage the base in preparation for the assault. Cook cook probably would have had you poison the food supply and ask you to kidnap Betsy to use her as bait to lure first recon into a trap to kill them. Driver nephi would probably ask you to help take over west side so they don’t intervene in the battle which means a battle with meansonofabitch. Violet probably would have been about hurting the ncr dogs. Then you would have returned to motor runner who tells you they got a message from their legion friend the spy to meet him before the battle and then you do the quest I got a spell on you but this time once it’s done he says when the battle begins he’ll run to Hoover dam with colonel hsu and save his life. Which will open up sabotage missions from him at Hoover time to help the legion prepare for the battle. Finally when all’s said and done, motor runner would give you bombs and tell you to plant them in the sewers under the camp so they can enter the camp from underground and you are tasked with opening the cut front door to let in the rest of the fiends and just like that you successfully took over camp mccarren
This is done of the best voice acting in the franchise, goddamn.

I don't get the whole "mods add the cut dialogue back in" because I've played vanilla and talked to them wearing Fiend armor...
They're what I expected in some ways, and much different in others.

Violet sounds like the same actor that voices Sunny Smiles. I like to imagine that after losing Cheyenne to geckos, Sunny wiped out Goodsprings in a psycho-induced rage and filled the town with stray dogs.
