- Sometimes it's hard to understand Americans and it seems like they talk fast! Here are 4 things to help you understand Americans better when they speak.
***Become fluent in real American English, with my free pronunciation & comprehension exercises: christinarebuffet.com/america...
WHAT YOU'LL LEARN:
1. What do you” sounds like /whuhduhya/or /whutcha/
2. We don’t always use auxiliary verbs. We say things like "You have a problem?" for "Do you have a problem?" and "They leaving tomorrow?" for Are they leaving tomorrow?"
3. Present perfect simple is often optional. In American English we often just use the past simple, as in “Did you buy the house yet?” instead of “Have you bought the house yet?”
4. /t/ sounds like /d/...or disappears: "This little city’s pretty!" doesn't sound like Lit-tle. Ci-ty. Pre-tty. It sounds like /luhdduhl/, /sihddee/, and /pruhdee/. But in words like "twenty", the /t/ sound disappears, as in /twuhnny/
WHAT ABOUT YOU?
What other interesting things have you heard in American English? Maybe something Americans said, that you thought was wrong. Or just something you thought was strange.
Tell us about it in the comments, and let’s continue the conversation there!

Awesome! Excellent video. Thank you so much.
Hi Christina, Thank you for your video.
ur the best teacher ever! I really do luv ur lessons. thx a tone!
Hey guys, just a little correction in the spelling in the subtitles! At around 7:20, I said "This little phenomenon even has its own name: the flap T", but in the subtitles it's written "it's", which is a mistake! It should be "its", because "its" is the possessive, not the contraction "it + is".
An Ambassador pointed this out to me, and I wanted to signal it to you, so you don't make the mistake! So be reassured, even English teachers can make mistakes too :-)
Speak English with Christina you're great :)
Thanks

Teacher, I'm from Brazil, and I can understand 90% that you said on the videos, but i'm learning by myself.
3 months, that i study, and for me, it your channel is the better. I'm learned new words, pronunciation, And i can only understand sounds "few words" in the channel. So i only read. :( but I'll impreve my inglês, and understand some day...

Think you I'm follow you in Morocco
Thx from Egypt
Hi Christina, I really liked your video! Im from Brazil and I speak with north americans, I could see that they use get for almost everything in spoken english, for example: I gotta go, I gotta eat, I gotta water.etc. Could you tell us more about that habits in spoken english?!
Thank you!
Hi Cristina. I have been watched your channel since last week and it's amazing!!
So about the question, I had dificult to take the pronunciation of "all of it" end "all of them"...
If all Americans spoke like you, it would be easier to understand them! Anyway... thanks a lot, Christina, for teaching so well!
Hi Christina! Thanks a lot.
I think it's useful not to use "have been" because I always confuse it.
Love u.
Thanks a lot from korea. 대한민국.
You are my favorite teacher
Aww, thanks so much Rogelio! Can I ask why?
Because it's with subtitles and how doyou explain
It´s cool to say that the "real" American spoken language is pretty much similar to my spoken language (brazilian portuguese) in particular in questions like (do you have a problem / you have a problem?)
U are way amazing . I love you
OMG! I've realized all that phenomeno in English really difficult, but good luck for everyone.
ok that's great
may u please tell us more about the abbreviations used while texting my native English speaker friends on the Internet .. I have a problem with it so much ..
anyone else agree! 😀
thanks 😍
Hi Ahmed. What abbreviations have you heard? I can explain what they mean.
Wow this is the real english that i want to learn. Those hiden sounds that make difficult to understand.
Eddy Colon the real English is the English you can find in a conversation or movies, so that’s the real English. In your language, do you pronounce every syllables? I don’t think so ;)
Thank you Cristina. Now I know why is so hard to me understand native speakers. 😅
Ótimo
I noticed than sometimes"'come to me' , "listen to" me sounds like lisen nu Night, cam nu mi.
Î am depressed because your lessons "4 things you need to understand Americans " . Itś really
difficult that accent and the omission of words when American English is spoken. But I want it.
Thanks for all your help.
Hi, I am from Turkey and sometimes I can’t solve some sentences on newspapers written by american english I will write one here but I can’t find now. When I see those complicated sentences with shortened words , I feel so bad and it looks I don’t know english well
🌷
christina how use more or less or little bit in english , im from brasil
How can i remember new word?
Let's get
I know english grammer and ı understand a little :) but i can't speak english. I will learn :)
talking about the "T" sounds in several words like :important, internet, interview, written... I don't hear when Americans pronounce it when they are speaking. Please help me if there is a rule for it.
Is the sentence in 2:20 lacking a "do" word in the label? Would it be "What do you DO for a living"?
I wanna practise english. I studied english for 4 months but i don't have many time to learn english. Recently i have more time so i'm looking for patner. Who can practise for me?
Currently i am working with American client i am facing problem to understand could u please advise me. I didn't understand what should I do.
Hey my love 😘
T soins has several prononciation in American english show tout know thé correct sound
Christina,in your opinion,if an latín american person live in usa,how long time take it talking like a native american?is posible to learn "wuth dable" like a bubble gum inside mouth,
That's why I love American English.❤👍no grammar..,😀
Teacher can you help me?
And about "tho"? (Or maybe thow? )
Really the most Hard of the english is the speaking and listening :'v
especially when you are speaking with a native, they speak so fast :'c while i make my sentences in my head, they are speaking about other subject :''(
But nobody said that it was easy
😉👏🇧🇷
i´ve heard "Have a good one"... This greetings it´s not in any english book. What its meas?. Can we use at morning, afternoon and evening? Does "one" like good day (today). Please, talk about this! Thanks. You´re the better!
It 's the same as "have a good day." You could use "have a good one" at any time of day. For example, if you are eating lunch with your friend, and it's time for him to go back to work or school, he might say "I need to go now. (I'll) See you later." You could answer "OK. Have a good one!"
I see a lot of wrong points in Americans' English . . For example . . . "She don't pay attention"
I'm totally confused !
Hi! Does "whatcha" mean "What are you...?" Or "What do you...?" ? Thank you!
Arianna Oddi it means “what are you”
Hmmm, might be helpful for some people. I'm actually an American hoping to find some kind of video that will help me to understand how to understand other Americans who simply talk really fast for a really long time. It looks like they don't require any breathing at all, they can just ramble on like a TV show on FastForward for hours and I just expect them to explode at any moment. All I can grasp are pops and clicks of certain C or T's here and there. They sound like Chipmunks on speed and it really frustrates and annoys me.
Hi !?
I like all your videos....but can you when you speak sentence in a real world speak slowly so we can repeat it ...
And thanks for you ❤
I thought they were called glottal stops - but that probably just me being English
You should retitle this as South Eastern American English. From an SC native. Just sayin. ;)
Why the brits avoid the letter "R" when speaking?
I was wondering which part of US says e-ther and which says i-ther ( the word either). Since you're from the south , I guess the mystery is solved... or rather resolved,
It's harder than coding.
