  • Are Scottish Terriers Prone to Any Health Issues?
Scottish Terriers, or affectionately known as Scotties, are a beloved breed of dogs known for their distinct appearance and spirited personalities
Originating from Scotland, these small and sturdy terriers have been popular pets for centuries
Like any breed, Scottish Terriers are prone to certain health issues that potential owners should be aware of
In this article, we will explore the common health problems that Scottish Terriers face and discuss how to keep them happy and healthy
One of the most prevalent health concerns in Scottish Terriers is a condition called Scottie Cramp
This condition affects the dog's ability to control its muscles, resulting in muscle stiffness and sometimes even temporary paralysis
Scottie Cramp is typically triggered by stress or excitement and can be mistaken for a seizure
While it does not cause any long-term harm, it can be distressing for both the dog and its owner
Thankfully, most Scottie Cramps can be managed through stress reduction techniques and physical therapy exercises
Another common health issue among Scottish Terriers is bladder cancer
This type of cancer primarily affects older dogs, although it can occur in younger ones as well
The symptoms of bladder cancer in Scottish Terriers include increased urination, blood in the urine, and difficulty in passing urine
It is crucial to monitor your Scottie's urinary habits and seek veterinary attention if any concerning signs are observed
Diagnosing bladder cancer in its early stages can significantly improve the chances of successful treatment
Scotties are also known to be at an increased risk of developing skin allergies and infections
These allergies can be triggered by various factors such as food, environmental allergens, or fleas
Symptoms of skin allergies in Scottish Terriers include excessive itching, redness, hair loss, and recurrent ear infections

You forgot to mention two other traits...selective hearing and give them what they want because they're going to take it anyway. They're smarter than we are and train us well. LOL!!!
