  • Goliath is a Bolliger & Mabillard hyper coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia. This coaster travels outside the main park and runs along the entry road. The coaster has a series of great camelbacks and a wild turnaround helix. In fact, I think it's the most intense B&M hyper.

      Exactly. I don’t get why every coaster enthusiast tend to hate on it. I guess maybe because the drop is under 200 feet but it’s only because of the mountain it’s on. So they had to avoid the rest of the park when making the drop

    I have it in the middle of the pack of B&M hypers. It was my 2nd favorite, and favorite coaster at the park, but the extreme rattle on my late 2020 rides had me dropping it down. It's interesting that Diamondback seems to have gotten smoother for me, while Goliath has gotten so much rougher. Those were the roughest rides I've had on any B&M, but I can still appreciate all the good things about it that you mentioned. But now, Twisted Cyclone is my favorite at the park, and Great America has my favorite Goliath.
    Unfortunately, the only times I'm ever at this park are on weekends, so lines are always long. One visit in 2019, I had to bail on Goliath, as they were having consistent 8-minute dispatches, and because of plenty of line jumpers, the line was moving backwards. Something weird was going on there, because it hasn't been like that on other visits. My first visit, I did get 3 rides in a row early.

      @johnjohny1 Před 2 lety +1

    I have just under 300 rides on Goliath and it is my 2nd favorite coaster overall behind Fury 325. Operations are usually great and most park visits I manage several rides at park opening when it is station wait only and also finish the day with several rides. January of 2020 I managed 26 rides without ever leaving the train. It was dispatching with less than a third train and rarely more than 5 people boarding or exiting each disptach. To be fair, it was 38 degrees, so quite cold!

    Goliath is the best hyper. Not even close, no other hyper has blackout positive G's, let alone during the turnaround that kills the pacing on most out & back B&Ms. The fact it goes all over the park is also really unique. Lastly, every single hill slaps. Every one.

    I rode Goliath SO many times! Six Flags Over Georgia is my home park. It has a lot prolonged floater airtime in the front. Me being skinny on every camelback I'm never sitting down. And it feels great every time! It's trim I can feel it slow down (especially in the back), but picks up speed very quickly. My favorite B&M Hyper!
    The only other B&M Hyper I've ridden was Raging Bull at Six Flags Great America. I'd say Raging Bull has a stronger first drop. But I like Goliath better because of the camelbacks. And it's layout is SO good. I love the fact it goes outside the park. We need more coasters that do that. The only issue I have about the coaster is the rattle and the 175ft drop. Would've been nice if it was 200ft (or even at least 195ft).
    Anyways. I love this coaster and it's in my Top 5 out of my 24 credits!

    Goliath is... well we are talking about Goliath at Six Flags... the B&M Hyper Goliath at Six Flags... The B&M Hyper at Six Flags over Georgia named Goliath, there we go! Its very different than your normal B&M Hyper, instead of that out and back L shape layout, this is a square that goes around a big portion of the park. It has that sweet B&M Hyper floater air but also mixes in positive Gs with that insane 540 degree helix. It's a positive and negative G machine and definitely a great 1 of top 2 in the park.

    I've apparently had bad luck because I've always had a relatively rough ride on this one. I know I hear people say they find this to be smooth but I just haven't had that experience. The layout is clearly great. But that roughness keeps me from liking it like I like other B&M hypercoasters. It's my number 4 ride in the park behind Twisted Cyclone, Mind Bender and Monster Mansion and that roughness is the reason. I'm happy for everyone who seems to have had a smooth ride but I find the rattle to be a real detractor.
    Don't get me wrong. It's obviously no Great American Scream Machine. And it's not super rough. But I just haven't had the smooth ride I usually expect on this model. I've heard people say Apollo's Chariot has a bad rattle but all of my rides on that (and every other B&M hypercoaster I've ridden) have been smoother than my rides on Goliath.

  • @Paolo8772
    @Paolo8772 Před 2 lety

    The max height of this coaster is 200' but the "drop" (the biggest drop/dip) on this coaster only 170'. Although I generally advocate for the biggest DROP to be at least 200' in order to qualify as a hyper coaster, I'm not gonna spend time here quibbling about whether or not Goliath at SFOG should qualify as a hyper coaster because 1: the max height of Goliath at SFOG is 200'; 2: B&M considers every non inverting coaster they build from Hollywood Dream to Fury 325 to be a hyper coaster; 3a: I've heard it said that the 2nd drop on Goliath at SFOG is bigger than the 1st and 3b: It looks to me like the biggest drop on Goliath at SFOG is actually the THIRD drop/dip: the descent from the crest of the 2nd camelback after the initial drop off the lift hill; (in other words the last drop/dip before it rises up to the start of the 540 degree helix turnaround). I may be wrong about that, but if I am and it's true that the third dip/drop off the 2nd camel back isn't as big as either one or both of the drops/dips that preceded it: it makes the third drop/dip seem to be bigger than drop/dips that preceded it within the same roller coaster layout, and that's the best illusion any roller coaster can possibly provide, especially in the case of B&M where it coasts so much $ to build to begin with, especially if taller and/or more numerous footers are needed to be built in order to support the track. 4: There is no MCBR; 4b: there are no trim breaks anywhere else except the trough following the helix, yielding whatever slight trims that are used there negligible.
    While it's true that lots what makes Goliath at SFOG one of the best B&M hyper coasters can also be said about Goliath at La Ronde: (not to mention the fact that Goliath at La Ronde has THREE untrimmed camelbacks following the drop and before the 1st turnaround) Goliath at La Ronde isn't as tall and fast as Goliath at SFOG. Also: Goliath at La Ronde doesn't feature a helix, let alone a 540 degree downward helix, let alone one that's not preceded with a trim break of any kind, like the 540 degree helix on Behemoth which I still love in the back car with those long trains, but which I'd still guess isn't as good as the helix on Goliath at SFOG which is contoured more steeply and isn't preceded by any trim brakes.

    Not a hyper coaster first drop is under 200 feet

      I count it if the height or drop exceeds 200 ft.

      It probably would've been a 9.5 without the shimmy.

    This is my favorite b&m in North America, The big drops in the beginning and the final run if hills have awesome negatives and the helix pinned me to the side in the back right. I'd take this over Fury 325 because of how intense it is start to finish

    Between those coasters at Six Flags Over Georgia, Dare Devil Dive, Blue Hawk, Georgia Scorcher, and Goliath, to ride again, what would you say, Canobie Coaster?
    Canobie Coaster would say: Goliath is a great paced strong floater airtime machine. The others are fun.
    If I ask you, how would you compare between those two Bolliger & Mabillard hyper coasters in Goliath at Six Flags Over Georgia and Shambhala at PortAventura?
    Canobie Coaster would say: Love both, but I prefer...
    If I ask you, why?

      Shambhala, smoother and better views with similarly great airtime.

    1:22 - the roller coaster itself IS the theming! 🎢😂 at least it does a pretty good job at it!
