I’m pretty sure there wasn’t two inner selves in understanding Willow because the anger that Willow felt towards amity is what manifested into something other than Willow’s inner self

You have a good point, but there's one line that throws a wrench into your theory. When Amity asks, "Are you the inner Willow?" she says "I was." Not yes, not no, "I WAS." She goes on to explain that Amity's fire burned away everything except anger, meaning that she was still the inner Willow, just changed by anger. If she wasn't truly the inner Willow, she would've said something else, or made some reference to being manifested.
On the other hand, I think that the tiny Willow might've been an emotional manifestation of hope.
@@amethyst_cat9532 no. That's not what that means. "I was" means "I no longer am". Now much of what would make her the inner self are burnt away leaving nothing but rage.
Similarly, the foundation of a burnt down house is not a house. Not anymore.
A new inner willow was created, through Willows forgiveness, guided by the more grounded skepticism of her anger (which she uses to fuel her growth, by seeking to prove everyone wrong about the cruel things they say)
The older Willow is anger... But tempered by forgiveness.

When Hunter said in the portrait ''Why does Darius looks so sad here?'' We learned that the previous Golden Guard was Darius' Mentor. Which does explains why Darius has such a soft spot for Hunter and felt bad for him that he wanted him to make friends and connections that the other Golden Guards didn't have.
As someone whos HAD painic attacks i recconised what was going on with hunter right away its nice to have it show as it is irl and not "AAHAAGSGAGAGG"
I honestly found it kind of disturbing by how accurate it was. Bravo to the show for handling that well.

I cried during that part more than anything else in the episode because I myself have panic attacks, so I related to that part a ton. I appreciate the accuracy cuz I felt so seen/heard instead of just " being dramatic " and so forth
I alsp have frequent panic attacks, and it was so accurate to some of mine that I had to take a long time to process what I was watching. It left me feeling eery and dreadful, but I loved it

I do agree it probably is the Palisman souls bc Belos even said “he’s been trying to catch it” and bc of how it’s presented in the show I think I being the Palisman’s soul is more accurate. We’ve also seen him have zero guilt abt killing witches. The only maybe little bit of guilt he could have is killing his brother but he said “it hurts every time he chooses to betray me” I think that moment is more hurt from feeling betrayed than feeling guilty bc if he felt guilty he likely would have more hesitation to killing the Grim Walkers and it doesn’t seem like he does

I presume if flapjack would have entered belos's mindscape he would have been eaten by belos since that's how all the others got there. So, since the crew can't unceremoniously kill him off the only real option was to leave him outside.
Yeah normally Palisman can't enter the mindscape, but I think subsuming a palisman into your being through weird curse magic probably represents an exception.
I doubt he ever felt guilt in his entire life
Something I noticed right before it was revealed that they were in Belos' fake mind, was when Luz put her hand to the painting and it didn't go through.
Kind of odd that Eda said there couldn't be two inner selves when she shares her mindscape with a second being, the Owl Beast. The Palisman amalgam fits a similar role: a seperate mind inside the host mind.
An added bonus: Belos says the line "Can't reason with crazy," a line that Luz said during season one. This is one of many elements that point to Belos as an evil inversion of Luz: human strangers to the isle with very different reactions to the magical world, as well as differences in how they interact with people and grow stronger as human witches.
I think that her saying there can't be two inner selves still kind of holds. The owl and Eda are their own beings so they can both occupy Eda's mind at once. As for the whole Willow's mind, I think it's one of those things where you can visit your past self through memories but you are not that person/at that moment anymore so it doesn't count. Also "Angry Willow" was just that, her anger was such a strong emotion that it manifested itself, it would be weird it took anyone but Willow's form given it was her mind after all.
@@ihartyoutubification I actually think it's her younger self that isn't the true inner self, as the angry willow said that she used to feel all emotions, but she could only feel anger after amity burned the memories
THANK YOU FOR POINTING OUT THAT ONE PORTRAIT OF PHILIP BEING BY HIMSELF ON THE BOILING ISLES BECAUSE I SAW THAT TOO!! SO IT GOT ME THINKING THAT THE BROTHER GOT "TEMPTED" TO GO WITH THE WITCH BUT PHILIP WAS EITHER TOO YOUNG OR TOO SCARED AT THE TIME TO FOLLOW (because his brother in the portrait with the magic fire hand looks close to Hunter's age currently and Philip has gotta be at least 5-6 younger than his brother, so bro is like 16-18 while Philip is 10-12 at that moment).
SO THIS ALSO PLAYS INTO YESTERDAY'S LIE WHEN WE LEARN ABOUT THE BROTHERS AND HOW THEY BOTH DISAPPEARED. Only they didn't disappear together, one brother disappeared first and then the other followed after.
During the time when the brother was gone, I think Philip BECAME a witch hunter to get his brother back (because being a witch hunter WAS an occupation in both Europe and in the Colonies). And OH BOY IT WOULD EXPLAIN A LOT OF HOW HE IS SO GOOD AT MANIPULATION AND MIND GAMES. Not only did witch hunters physically torture their victims into (false) confessions, but they also did a WHOLE LOT OF COERCSION/GASLIGHTING and tricking their victims into saying something.
So yeah, in Philip's mind he came to the Boiling Isles and he was going to save his brother from the witches and also going to destroy the witches to keep humanity safe and make sure that they never "took" someone's loved one again. BUT THEN... yeah, we see that his brother has rejected his Puritan upbringing and has become open-minded and has also fallen in love with a witch and having a kid with her too. AND WE ALL SAW HOW PHILIP HANDLED THAT POORLY YIKES.
I believe that him and his brother entered the isles at the same time however his brother soon found out about Phillip's ill intentions and tried his best to stray him away from this negative path but failed and had to part ways with his brother and that's the first time in Phillip's when he was away from his brother

*and* i have a theory that, well, lots of people have talked of, that the wife of Caleb (a.k.a. big bro Wittebane) is a Clawthorne, and actually, it would make sense, seeing as the witch had to have been in the human realm to meet Caleb, which meant she had to have had a means of getting there. And the only known way currently of getting to the human realm from the demon realm is the door Eda had before it broke.
And it looks like nobody else HAS gone to the human realm besides Eda because there would be way more human items in the isles and more humans and human realm stuff, so it would make perfect sense that the wife of Caleb had to have been a Clawthorne and the door would have been passed down from generation to generation, and why most Palismen are actually human realm creatures, such as a cardinal or a house cat or a huge hawk, because barely any of those actually exist in the demon realm. So that could mean Caleb taught his wife of the animals or the wife knew already and passed it down from generation to generation, resulting in almost all palismen being human realm creatures!!!

Another thing I thought was kinda interesting that I just noticed is hunters palisman is a bird. The clawthorne family all have bird palismen. Philips brother ran away with a mystery witch

i'm so glad someone else talked about the very back portrait as a pit where grimwalkers are made. i thought the same but everyone said he was drowning and quick sand or something which also seemed super likely given the hallway. i am curious why some portraits look like parchment or something like that @4:22 but maybe its also just the angles
those are the paintings im so curious finding out. The left most painting is a bit clear, it seems like a person wearing a robe just like that witch depicted in the gravesfield histoty. and it seems like it has wings? not sure about that detail tho but boooy so excited for the next eps.
I think Philip's brother's wife was the reason why Philip/Belos has this curse and the glyphs on his body is probably him trying to heal the curse I think

i think eda didn't need to build a teleportation potion because teleporting into someone's mind is a form of wild magic unlike darius, raine, and eberwolf who are limited to their magic because of their sigils

in the portrait of which philips brother is laying dead, its interesting to note that the brother is laying in the exact same position that the titan is laying in! edit: after watching edge of the world, there's this one scene that they pause on for a interestingly long time of the boiling isles titan laying there, and the at exact same angle that the portait of philips brother dead..

A theory that's been going around that is possibly, most definitely true is that Hunter is related to the Clawthorne family since the witch in those pictures have similar to those in the females that are in the Clawthorne family. This makes sense because he is a half-witch that can't cast magic due to his father's human counterpart, and as to why Hunter is Belos's nephew.
He probably can’t cast magic because he’s a grim walker and doesn’t have a bile sack though? The nephew title seems to be a lie told by Belos
Hunter is confirmed to be a grim walker, which means he technically isnt related to anyone as he was created not born. But yes it's possible the the person hunter is based off had a child with a clawthorne making eda, belos, and hunter all relatives.
It really makes me wonder what hunters childhood was like though
Also look at Eda's dad - he shares a lot of resemblance to Philip, and is little a descendant of the original Hunter's.
Hunter is created by Belos, he cant be related to anyone. But who knows, maybe the real Hunter is.
Also a cool moment is that Eda reaching out to Hunter is probably a small call back to the portrait where we saw Philp's brother walking towards a witch, their hand extended towards him with fire. Expect this time Hunter's run away.
I think the monster with palismen could be a creature like the Owl Beast, so this thing is there because of the curse Belos has (probably the curse of the witch that was with his brother). And this creature needs to eat palismen as the Owl Beast eat voles, as we saw on Eclipse Lake.

This episode was so good, it surpassed Knock Knock Knockin on Hooty's Door as my favorite episode.
Knock Knock has a good clue that is probably linked to this episode. Remember who turned the owl creature into the curse that afflicts Eda?
I was right, Belos cut his ears into a pointed shape so he'd look like a witch. I never noticed the picture of him cutting his ears but I had this theory since the episode came out. which also happened to be the day I got into the show. I watched a video about Belos, came up with the theory that he cut his ears, then watched all of season one.
5:03 I think he was aiming for the witch not Caleb because he said he was a Witch Hunter and didn’t approve of his brother life. However, Caleb protect the witch and the brothers begin to fight and you know the rest of the story
Not only that but you can see how much his brother looks like Hunter, or wrather, how much Hunter looks like his brother. Hence the quote "you look the most like him". So, it is possible he is attempting to "recreate" his brother. Going back to "Hunter" being a title, his real name could be that of his brother, the past Golden Guards being failed attempts or unwanted results.
Wow this is dark! Like I knew that the owl house is meant to be on the scarier side and S2b is supposed to be a lot darker than the beginning of the series but wow! Murdering his brother, carving glyphs into his arm, cutting off his ears, killing more than a dozen golden guards, burning villages, killing likely hundreds of innocent people, etc. Wow, I never expected a character to be so demented, even belos, I was expecting him to have a motive that’s he just took to far, but nope he just straight up wants to get rid of all witches and will do anything to do so. Honestly I’m shocked
Reminds me of the villain in Quasimodo who burned a house with people in it or bambi where the movie just starts with the mom getting shot.

I'm not really the type to grimace over dark stuff, but I never thought about that. And the fact that they were left there to freeze and starve to death and then had their remains constantly walked on by later generations without it ever being realized that area was literally a graveyard is haunting to think about.
We can assume that actual name of Hunter was Caleb. Because that what Flapjack told him in "Any sport in a storm".

I think Hunter’s hand starts shaking, because when they are in the *real* memories, we can look back on episodes where Belos’ hands start twitching or his body will lash out - due to palismen being killed. Though the crack on flapjack can also be a trauma for Hunter (Philip’s brother’s *real* palisman/flapjack’s first owner since he was abandoned). Also, this isn’t the first time Luz has used to safety hover glyph, because she uses it in “Reaching Out”
And if the fact that flapjack was “Caleb’s” palisman, I wonder if that’s why flapjack chose “hunter”
Theory: I think that Philip's brother/ friend (the one who hunter is based on) was named Caleb. I have no other evidence other than thats what flap jack gave hunter as a fake name, I just think its a fun theory.
I have the same mini-theory! I think it would be cute, but also really really sad if it turns out to be true.
I think his name is Dillip cuz a common theme in this show is that siblings's names sound similar like Ed, Em and Am Edric, Emira and Amity (if anyone was confused) and also Eda and Lilith have a common letter in their names ie the letter L (Edalyn, Lilith)

Oh boy here we go. Time to lose my mind over this episode again.
Theory tiime: I think Philip’s brother’s wife did indeed curse him, but that’s why he has to absorb pallisman, like eda’s elixirs, it’s keeping the curse at bay
A couple of days ago, I was rewatching the owl house. Remember when Eda was about to get petrified? The news channel said there hadn't been a petrification for 30 years. What if the last petrification was the golden guard that got petrified? Originally, I didn't know about the petrified golden guard, and assumed it was Belos trying to kill off his brothers descendants, because I believe the clawthornes might be descended from Philip's brother. Seeing this video made me remember that theory that I came up with just a few days ago. And if the previous Golden Guard was Darius' mentor, that tineframe would be when Darius was about 10, since Eda and Raine went to Hexside with him and if I'm correct, are in their mid-late 30s, referencing a few details like edas mug that says "30 and flirty" from season 1. We don't know exactly how long she's had that cup, and it'd probably be difficult to find a cup that said "37 and flirty", so she could be anywhere in her 30s. 30 seems to be a number that keeps being repeated in this show, I wonder if anything else big besides the petrification happened 30 years ago. So assuming their ages are at least close, because Darius could also be older than Eda and Raine, Darius, could've watched his mentor get PETRIFIED while he was a little kid. We've seen the emperors coven take recruits while they are young, and we don't know what the age range for those recruits are specifically. If Darius seemed to young, they could've possibly let him continue his education at Hexside for a while. Watching Hunter become appointed as the new golden guard would be terrifying for him if he watched his mentor get killed.
The glyphs could be needed since it was a long distance cast into belos' mind unlike the close-range spell for luz and amity
Also it’s likely belos mind is magically reinforced also people can’t just jump in and accidentally find the truth
In Number 5, i think that eda was in close vicinity of her target and that's why she could do it herself and with raine and the others they weren't close to belos and they needed extra power. I do like the idea that eda is THAT strong
0:36 I think that is not really a valid argument that Eda is the most powerful witch on the boiling iles. Eda was transfering Luz and Amity to Willows mind when she was right next to them. The spell circle was probably used to transfer from long distance. Still Eda didn't need a potion to transfer them but that can be part of the long distance transfer. I think the spell circle is needed for long transfer similarly to when Philip used it to travel to head of Titan.
Eda is still the most powerful witch

Maybe the reason belos wouldn’t heal Ed’s in the season 1 finally is because the collector needed or wanted the owl Beast because in the episode knock knock knockin on hootys door in edas dream there is a character reminiscent of the collector and has the same voice
I think it was Belos who cast this curse. How could a schoolgirl make such strong magic that even experienced adult magicians could not undo? Belos is a manipulator. He could have planted instructions for casting a curse for Lilith. It could be because of revenge or the goal was to gain influence over the Clawthornes. Belos knows how Eda's curse works. He "predicts" that Eda will lose her magic. how did he know that? That's why I think Belos did it.

The episode's name is spelled as Hollow Mind and not Hallow Mind, I think this is a reference to the game Hollow Knight because some parts of Belos' backstory mirror certain events in Hollow Knight's lore and inner Belos' design is super similar to Hollow Knight's main character
I think it was just a typo, because in the video he is saying hollow, not hallow. Also I don't know about it being a reference to Hollow Knight, don't see the similarites you are saying.

- Travelling into someone's mind is a huge plot point
- The king/emperor appears out of nowhere and everyone quickly leaves their old lives (Their belief in different gods in Hollow Knight and wild magic in Hollow Mind) behind to follow this person's sayings
- The king/emperor creates a lot of children for a purpose and kills the ones he finds useless, one of the children finds out about this and is deeply affected by it (shown by the Void Heart charm in Hollow Knight)
- And again, both feature a character who wields a sort of sword and wear a mask with horns and two circular black eyes
hallow is a noun, and hollow is the adjective form of that noun. it'd be cool if it was a reference but im pretty sure it isnt

regarding how hunter was named - i think i was done as a joke, belos would have gotten a kick out of the wordplay

OMG!! I didn't notice a lot of these things (except the first four)!!! Thanks so much for sharing!! Some of these absolutely blew my mind.😧 I really like your point about the Palisman not being able to enter minds.🤔 I didn't think of that at all, honestly.
Here's one detail that I noticed: even though Belos claims that he feels bad for destroying all of the grimwalkers (in the scene with the Collector), you'll notice that he smiles slightly right before he says that, which I'm pretty sure means that he is lying, and that he actually does "have fun with destroying them."😠 Just a very small, but dark detail that I noticed when re-watching the scene.

@@Poke_Miracle_Owl_Universe He could be lying unknowingly..He could want to believe he misses them so much it comes out as if it were a truth even if that's not how he feels (it'd also explain why the collector brought up him enjoying it in the first place, the collector seems to know more about him than he knows about himself).
@@testerwulf3357 Actually that's really really possible maybe Belos does subconsciously feel enjoyment but consciously he feels betrayed and it hurts

Hey, thanks for isolating the portrait stuff! I'd seen a lot of things about these on tumblr, but I don't think I'd seen anyone give a close-up on the glyph carving or him cutting off his own ears (that's seriously messed up but I can totally see him doing it)

I noticed 2 things
1. When hunter is arresting the criminals he uses the staff Belos gives him because hes in uniform but when he uses his staff to attack Luz its his palicemen staff
2. When Hooty talks about Hunter being stuck in the emperor's mind Darius gets concerned
This was much darker than I thought after seeing the paintings
Another thing I noticed is that hunter was sent to capture and kill the selkidomus because it was an ingredient for grimwalkers but that’s not the only time the 18th grimwalker is hinted at! In the episode where Gus joins a group of glandus students to get the galdorstones from the illusionist graveyard Bria says “we can sell the small ones to the emperors coven and keep the rest for ourselves” a galdorstone was also something needed to create a grim walker (how much you wanna bet this line was meant entirely for foreshadowing) so if Bria ever did sell belos the stones it would have brought him one step closer to creating a new grim walker! It was also mentioned in that episode that Gus and Matt would help build up the defenses for the graveyard but I don’t think they released just how much they needed to do that with hunter now leaving the emperor’s coven

Wait i just noticed in the portrait at 5:22 where the wife cast a spell to Phillip has the shadow of the dead body of brother (i wonder why it's in separate memories as it seems like it was one thing after another)

It may be a coincidence, but I think Luz’s cloak might be a reference to the mantle of spell resistance from D&D, as they share a similar design, and both protect the wearer from spells.
Did you know that Zuko was going to have a hawk named hawky(it was in the ATLA pilot) but got uncle Iroh instead? Hunter has a supportive red bird as a companion that tries to guide him to the right path. Like both of those ideas in one supportive character.

I figured Raine, Darius and Eberwolf needed to resort to wild magic because they all have Coven sigils, limiting their magic to only one track. The mindscape spell probably either needs several magic tracks to work or just doesn't work with bardic, abomination and beastkeeping magic alone

When I saw Belos' face and his ears, I was wondering why they are smaller than other witches ears. Then it was said that he is Phillip, a human and I wondered why he didn't have round ears. Now it all makes sense, he cut his ears to make them look like witch ears. Since human have smaller ears than witches, it makes sense that his ears can't really be cut into the witch shape. I just love the details they put into this backround story!
I think with the eda mind thing its easier for her because she’s physically close to willow but the others were doing it from super far away.
