    Something as important as teeth should be covered by insurances. It should be treated as eye glasses or hearing aid that while you don't require them to live, your quality of life greatly diminishes without them.

      They choose from the same federal health care plans that other federal workers have access to. A former senator could have the same health care plan as your mail carrier. Of course senators earn significantly more money and can afford the out of pocket expenses.

      JuanCarlos C that's so true bad teeth can lead to many different heart diseases. Even if you have affordable insurance when you have teeth that break for no reason and a lot of infections you can't afford the out of pocket costs involved with fixing all of the problems. I'd say over the years I've spent about 30 thousand or more on my teeth but now that I'm permanently disabled I have no dental insurance and can't afford to buy a plan because I still have 2 young sons to raise. Luckily they have medicaid to cover their oral health but I worry about them having the same issues that I inherited from my father with their teeth. I already know that 1 of my grandkids inherited the same oral problems and to make matters worse my daughter doesn't stay on top of getting him to the dentist regularly

  • @Rivracost3
    @Rivracost3 Před 7 lety +654

    I doubt the infection was caused by the fake dentures.. I mean her teeth clearly were corroding and falling out first so the problem existed before

    • @ValkyriesSirena
      @ValkyriesSirena Před 7 lety +49

      In all fairness the dentist didnt say it was the homemade dentures but that she wasnt fixing the underlying problem with her infection, 'the doctors' however clearly imply her cosmetic fix is a 'dangerous' when it really isnt.

    • @Rivracost3

      Brandi S Yes I wasn't really aiming that comment at any individual just saying I doubt the fake dentures are the problem.
      I feel like with teeth genetics plays a big role. I know some people that work really hard to take care of their teeth and still have problems while others are more careless and have great enamel and never get cavities.

      swallowing undigestible objects can cause a blockage in your intestine and kill you. and if she got them caught in her throat or breathed them accidentally while sleeping, she could suffocate.

    If getting your teeth repaired/replaced wasn't so ungodly expensive, maybe people wouldn't go to such extreme measures like this woman had to!
    Forty-THOUSAND dollars to get her teeth fixed/replaced!!! How does ANY dentist, in their right mind, justify those kind of prices? Honestly... Even with materials and labor, how in the hell would it come out to $40,000 to repair her teeth, or put in bridges and/or implants?
    The dental industry, and yes- ITS AN INDUSTRY, in this country (America) is a freaking JOKE. Its no wonder people are willing to cross the border and go to Mexico to get the SAME EXACT WORK done, with the SAME EXACT MATERIALS, for a fraction of the cost! But it's PATHETIC that people even HAVE to do that just to afford dental work!!!!

Every once a year visit the Dentist, always turned out to be several weeks of treatment, many extractions later, and many other supposed problems with her teeth. After 5 years, time had come to renew the private insurance. we decided not to renew. We changed dentist, and went on the NHS .. 20 years on, with no private insurance, Only one visit per year, only lost one tooth. no other treatment. So much for private insurance. Greetings from the UK.

      I somewhat agree, however I work for a dentist who is extremely reasonable. He does everything in his power to keep the costs as low as possible for his patients. he works out payment plans and discounts for all his patients. don't go to a big fancy practice e because all that nice equipment is being paid for by the patients. just because the practice doesn't look fancy doesn't mean it's going to be poor quality. The practice I am at is super old, but our concerns are our patients first and for most.

    If working on ones teeth can cause a heart attack, then by rights dental is medical and should be included in any medical plan. Dentists are specialists similar to cardiologists, pediatrics etc.

    • @PuppyVtuber
      @PuppyVtuber Před 7 lety +2

      I absolutely agree. I think the only reason it's not included though is because sadly you'd have people abusing the system by not caring about their teeth at all, not brushing or flossing, then having huge "medical" bills because of their own negligence.

      I feel her pain because I’m trying to deal with the issue of having no teeth nor dentures because of a monster of a dentist who totally F🤬 me over and kept my money right now at the same time. In June 2020, I took out a loan for dentures. I paid 3,500 for extractions and upper plate. My experience with that dentist was horrific. Each time I went back for adjustments they made it even worse, on top of them being soft-spoken condescending and belittling. I left there crying each time, so I wanted back at least half of my money back, but the only way I could even get anything back was to give back the dentures that I’d already paid for, and they only refunded 1,189 plus my broken heart, no teeth, weight loss (already slim), eating is waaaaaaaay too uncomfortable- so I dun eat like talking about. I hate looking in the mirror and now I deal with a financial setback, and depression. Thanks a lot Houston Dentures Express.

My teeth were never that great but I think what did them in was consuming too much sugar, lack of dental care and knowledge of proper hygiene. The bulk of the damage was accrued during my pregnancies. I have a channel here on CZcams in which I share my journey from dentures to implants. Far more people are resorting to DIY fixes due to lack of quality, affordable care. It's sad, really.

    I am a ripe old age of 30, and as a fellow toothless younger person. I can totally feel her pain, embarrassment and shame. I started losing teeth at 29. from then until now I have lost 10 teeth, and this is due to a long history of poor hygiene. I was in a terrible terrible state of bipolar depression and just didn't care to take care of myself, oral hygiene was the last of my worries. I was trying not to end my own life. And now I am paying the price with deteriorating teeth, teeth falling out or breaking off and constant severe pain due to infections in all of my existing teeth. I haven't dated in just as long and have isolated myself to my home all alone. I hope one day I can get a new smile, but this DIY is pretty awesome.

      James Barela finally, a story I can relate to. same thing for me. chronic depression and anxiety through the my 20s. I drank a lot and smoked and I'm sure that's the catalyst for my tooth lose. also the bulk of my work experience was and still is in unskilled minimum wage or slightly better paying so out of pocket for dental work was NOT an option. if it was feasible I could have gone to the dentist and they would have told me I had a bunch of cavities that I didn't see because they were between my molar teeth. didn't know how bad it really was till my teeth started to crumble. I'm starting to run out of molars. what makes most angry is the arrogance of the dentist's...like what do I mean I don't have $20,000 to fix my teeth. like that kind of money is really an option! well, you know, shit on me cause well I didn't take care of myself, right? my problem. sorry I had to rant.

I keep putting my old bridge back in daily w denture adhesive. I can't eat w them, they're just for looks. But I can't eat or drink w them in bc food causes the adhesive to melt. Including 1 tooth removal, 1 cyst removal, last wisdom tooth surgically removed, 4 rounds of bone grafting, a sinus lift, post implant drilled into my new jaw bone, and a healing cap. Now I have my new doe silly made tooth. Due to all the bone grafts they had to put it off to the side and a special tooth had to be made. Also had a failed root canal and dentist appointment before that. I get it some people lose teeth to things that are out of their control however be responsible for things you can control!

Some have healthy teeth with wide gaps, or too much gum or too wide teeth. A lot would pay reasonable money for this alternative to a better smile. Bless your heart... I know your struggle all too well, it's terribly unfortunate to have this issue - and it can feel all but hopeless at times. It's a bit scary to have your teeth start crumbling on you - then to not have the resources that are needed in order to fix it can be horribly depressing. And as if that wasn't bad enough - there's the whole embarrassment factor that is a daily struggle. Jeff Gogo I had the same issue. I was 27 when I had my son and through out my pregnancy my teeth were chipping and cracking. I found out at that time that my son whom was still in the whom had been taking alot of my calcium which caused my teeth to become brittle. Years went on and I was getting them repaired over and over again but they kept on chipping and even started to break.
      I too stopped smiling as much and didn't want to take photos, when I did I barely opened my mouth even though I had my teeth in the front but not to have any on the sides was just as bad. My husband didn't care and has always told me I am beautiful no matter what but to me I was not. Part of who I was seemed to be lost. Well I had gotten so fed up with not being able to go out the way I wanted to and smile the way I use to I saved enough money to get the partials I needed. 500 wasn't bad and I have been smiling ever since My self confidence is where is use to be and maybe even more!

She's 80 years old and to this day I've never seen her without her teeth in, so it's been hard on her self esteem. My 82 year old father only has a few teeth left. I guess soft teeth run in our family. Eventually I'll have them done, but for now it's not in the foreseeable future. Peace

      Not only did they work, people actually complimented my smile while I was using it. Seriously, if you don't have the money for dental work, try them out. My self esteem got such a boost from them. Hope you get better!!

Very distressing that we live in a country that places such high value on physical appearances but there seems to be no solutions. Even after years of forcing myself to get my teeth cared for, I'm left with only a few of my teeth and several mismatched bridges or some dentists quick fix. I am left embarrassed and never wanting to smile. Unfortunately, there is no fix for me. When I do build up the courage to go to a dentist, they don't even look at my teeth they just say I need about $60,000 worth of work. I just leave and on it goes.

      If you are in the US, there is hope for you! Find yourself a university with a dental school. They typically cost a fraction of the price of a regular dentist and often offer far more comprehensive services, and are up on the current technology. You can get a discounted price on full mouth implants. Students are supervised closely by dental instructors who are dentists, and because of the nature of the implant procedure, the person working on you will likely have already graduated and earned their DDS and is continuing their education to specialize in the procedure.

      Thank you for that information. I have called everywhere in my area and beyond looking for something like that. I have not found any school around here that does more than just the basic fillings. I got up some courage and went in to see a DDS about a year ago. They said they could do one of these 3 in one implants where they would take out the teeth on the top and fit in this one big implant. I got really excited! They then sent in the financial person, it would have been between $20,000 and $29,000 just for the top teeth. When I got out to my car I just cried.

I have root canals in the teeth that are still in my mouth, the problem, so I have been told is that I clench my jaw and it cracks the root arch on these teeth. Next thing they are loose or falling out. I have pulled a few out on my own because once I hear them crack I know what's coming.

      I've had a root canal, My kids have had root canals.. I can tell you, The average price for a root canal is $1100 - $1300.. It takes 2-3 visit to complete a root canal. The first visit is 20 minutes in the chair, the rest are 10 minutes.. That's a GRAND TOTAL of less than *1 HOUR for $1200. dollars* .. How many People do you know that get paid $1,200 an hour ? That's just one example. There's plenty more..
      Yes, it's great to stop the pain, but is $1,200 an hour right ? That's almost $10,000 a day for a Dentist 8 hour work day... Only in America, ! Other Countries are no where near that price..
      If you need false teeth, It's even worse.. if you look at how teeth are made, and look how much they cost per tooth, You'll understand.. Here's a link to the real teeth they use for false teeth..
      www.ebay.com/itm/3Set-84pcs-Acrylic-Resin-Denture-Teeth-VITA-Color-A3-Upper-Lower-Shade-Dental/282346920822?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649

      I feel your all's pain.
      I remember another time when a dentist stuck a hook down in an exposed root of mine and he actually expected me to just sit there and not react to the pain hr just caused. The pain shot through my lower jaw and I jerked. He yanked back and in the nastiest attitude he said to me, almost in a threatening manner, that if I did that if I jerk I could end up getting stabbed in the face with the sharp hook! And after my other tooth got finished getting filled, I was made to leave without even getting cleaned up. My blood was still in splatter patterns on my face and neck. I was still spitting out blood. I looked in the mirror in my car to see in my mouth and that's when I saw the dried up blood still speckled on my face!
      I never went back to him.
      I'm in hard times now and can't afford for even a dentist at a clinic. But I've been there about a year go to one at a clinic and they were nasty. The tools looked rusted. The chair and all furniture appliances were in bad shape. They had such bad/mean attitudes. Even when I was getting an assessment done, all I was hearing was huffing and grunting and saw a bunch of head shaking (as to say no). Then she would shrug her shoulders and doing her hands inbyhe air in a tantrum like way. Then tell me I need to get these $1200 treatments done first before I could get my tooth fixed because my teeth were about to fall out...?
      I was like ummmm no. I left in a horrible mood and a sore mouth. My tooth is still killing me. But after that performance they put on and the possible scam they are pulling on me, nope.
      I don't care if my teeth are "falling out" if they do, they do. But if a tooth is rooted or broke and causing pain, it should be pulled or fixed. But they wanted me to come in and pay $1000's of dollars first and still keep a very painful tooth in.
      If I has a $1000 to just give up like that, I'd rather give it to a real surgeon and have him take out the problem teeth and get it over with.

I have since stopped using them but with that I also don't spend much time with people again. At this point I don't know what I will do but I'm hoping to find out when they have one of the dental clinics that come through every now and again and hopefully I can at least get whatever is clearly wrong taken care of before it makes me sick. actually I use this for a missing filling and one missing tooth. Well, actually I cut the tooth from the imako fake smile and then super glued it to some of the beads shaped behind the adjacent teeth. and I eat pretty well what I want on it. sometimes it'll come unglued eventually, and I do replace the beads occasionally to keep them fresh. But it's been working for me, over a year now.

When I was 9 years old, my parents were going through a divorce, being a kid, I didn't brush like I should have and I don't remember my parents really caring and making me brush. I had a lot of cavities in my back teeth. Now that I'm an adult, the fillings that the dentist put in, have all fallen out. Ive taken very good care of my teeth as an adult but its too late. My back teeth have all broken off. I've had chronic infections..but I have 5 children and the finances aren't that great. I have really good insurance but even with insurance, they still want the money all up front before I could even have oral surgery. Its crazy how expensive it costs to get dental work 😥

    Word of advice from someone who has dealt with constant decaying teeth, if you can afford it GO to your dentist for a clean every 6 months or at least once a year, this ensures all the tartar and build up will be removed that you may missed whilst brushing or flossing. Also communicate with your dentist, he/she will tell you where your tartar builds up and where you need to focus on cleaning.

They were so bad, it was poisoning my blood stream and I stayed sick 24/7. Couldn't hardly eat anything without the excruciating sharp pain going through my entire body with every bite. I'm now 26 and still have no top teeth. I have two plates made by two different dentist and neither fit because my mouth is constantly shrinking. I couldn't begin to tell you what it's like. I'm currently pregnant with my third child and I have hardly any pictures with any of my children. I don't smile, I hardly talk in person, anything. It's a horrible thing to go through.

Moreover, do you put some chemical hands in your stomach or any other body part?? no because it cause infection. You can get treatments at lower costs with medicaid and insurance. There are payment plans too, where you can pay amount in very small amounts and can get dentures, but only disadvantage is you will get your dentures late.

      You can only get Medicaid if you're at a certain income or below. My husband and I were in a hit & run accident causing my husband to be permanently disabled. He lost his job of 25 years and he's on SSDI. Because he gets a small pension with it (he didn't get full pension because he was short a few years on being able to retire on it) I can't get Medicaid. Can't afford to give up his pension of course and can't afford to pay the co-pays along with 20% of the dental work. I can't work because I was hurt in the accident also but because I spent 4 years of the last 10 in college and not working I can't draw my SSDI even though I have qualifying injuries. You have to have a certain amount of credits to get SSDI and they expired my credits before that 10 years.

Poor people also get money to pay their insurance.

Then as I had kids it got worse but I had really good insurance but even that didn't help me I've had so many oral surgeries to try to save my teeth to no avail I still lost my teeth. I finally got to a point where I had actually swallowed my thousand dollar crowns while eating that I just told them to pull out all my bottom teeth to get dentures during my final pregnancy. Regular dentures will never ever work good for me so my only alternative is the all on 4 implants but I can't afford those so instead of paying hundreds and hundreds of dollars for dentures that will never work for me I just make my own to save as much money as I can.
