Hey! Thank you for taking the time to watch my video and im glad its helped you!. Thank you also for your support and welcome to the fish family 🐠🧜🏻♀️
Hi Salty, I have just bought this kit from Reefphyto, it arrived this morning. It is good to have some vids for reference as this is my first attempt at breeding Copepods. Just finished setting it up and it is bubbling away nicely at about 2 per second. Just need to keep them fed and wait for the results.
Hey Jamie! That's awesome glad my vids can help you. Yeah definatly I will be doing an update soon this last week I've had an explosion of pods! There are loads and all I've been doing is feeding when the water looks clearish. You will have to let me know how you get on 🙂
I just came across your channel and am so excited about it. I am a girl who feels a little out of place in this hobby as so many of the instructional videos are made by men.. The men do a wonderful job so not knocking them but it’s so refreshing to see another woman that’s into aquarium keeping and making videos!

I'm glad you liked it Michael 🙂 yeah I think alot of places do them. Definatly check it out. You have a mandarin dragonet so I would definitely recommend for you! They need copious amounts of pods! So will be perfect! And it is super easy to set it all up 😊
Yeah I started pods in my refugium before I put it in. They are growing. I grab some tigger pods occasionally for it. Definitely something to look into
@@DoubleCFit yeah deffo I was spending too much money on copepods every week so this is a great way to save money too!😁 win win for us and our fish friends lol
Nice and very easy to follow. Just got a Mandarin due to flatworm invasion in my aquarium and I am finding out it is going to need an ocean of copepods for it to survive. 😩I just added a small 8 oz. Pack today to my 29 gallon aquarium but I don't think it will be enough. I would not have purchased this beautiful fish if I had known it is all it eats, but my local fish store recommended it for flatworms.😔
Hey thank you for your comment. Im glad you liked my video 😊 yeah manderin dragonets are usually recommended for expert level aquarists with a mature system and steady supply of pods. purely for the fact their feeding can be tricky. I personally would have probably recommended a 6 line wrasse to eat flatworms. As they are an easy to care for fish. Ive never had to deal with flat worms i can imagine it being a pain. If you think the manderin will be too much at this moment in time you could always return him and swap for a easier to care for fish that will eat flatworm? There's nothing worse than watching a beautiful fish like a manderin dragonet slowly starving as the demand for pods is so high. But if you want the challenge they eat 1000s of pods a day so starting a culture is deffo recommemded. I hope that helped a little! 😊
Just watched your videos how soon did you see till you start getting more coppods and how many times did you fed them does the water change colour once the eat all the phytoplankton so you know when too add more and how do you know when to do a water change on it great video

Okay Salty, the outfit you bought your Copepod Kit from must have a problem answering emails from the USA. Since they don't reply to my emails, I have a couple of questions concerning an established farm. (1) Once the pods are in the farm and reproducing, is there a need to ever perform a water change or do I just keep adding RO to keep the salinity at 1.023? My farm will be approximately the same volume as your farm, approximately how much phytoplankton do you feed per 3.75 Liters? Thank you for your advise and I've now binged watched all of your videos.
hey. Oh thats annoying. Dont see why they dont reply to emails. Water changes only need to happen about every 2-3 months. When the water starts to smell or starts getting lots of tiny bubbles around the edge of the water surface, a water change is needed. (Another reason to change the water is if you start to notice depletion in the number of rotifers/copepods for no apparent reason. (Most likely, the ammonia level is too high.) You need to feed your culture when the water starts looking clear. And you should feed enough that your water is a light green. Not dark green. If you over feed you can crash you whole culture. You will slowly get used to how much and when. I dont know specifically how many ml of feed per litre of water in the culture. Just go by the colour. If it looks like its clear and when you look top down into the water with a light (torch) you can see the bottom.. your culture needs feeding just remember light green is good dark green is too much feed. Hope this helps 😊
This light was just a demonstration. I used natural daylight as was near a window. But if I was to have run lights on it, I would have run them for up to 8 hours a day. Hope that helps 😊
@@mamdmzreef7738 your welcome 🙂 that's great news! Do it! Its alot of fun! If you let me know if you do decide to start documenting I'll be your first subscriber 😎
Because they sit near a window they have light from the window during the day. Then in the evening when it gets dark when you usually put your lamps on on the house the lamp will go on and then go off when I go to bed 😊 12 hours of light for your culture will be fine 😊
My culture clears in no more than 2 days once established and I am harvesting the pods. Pods are very hungry little things maybe because they have a short lifespan.
@@sezles1 the water will clear alot quicker depending on how many mouths you are feeding and how much feed your putting in. 😊 as long as you make sure you feed when the water looks clear you should be fine and won't risk over feeding and crashing your culture. 😊
If you could keep the culture going with regular harvests, maybe.. but o would probably run two for a tank that size.. and depending what fish you own.. eg if you have fish that primarily eat pods like dragonettes then I would probs run two or 3 of these.

you don't put a knot on your airline. instead add a Y fitting with a valve on the end. if not you put back pressure on the air pump making it work harder and not last as long. nice video
Thanks for the advice. It already has a Y fitting but the pump that it came with isn't the best. It could possibly be the airline hose thats the problem as it quite flimsy. Either way its impossible to get the air flow exactly how I want with putting a loose knot. To be honest I will probably have to upgrade my hosing and /or air pump. But thanks for the advice 😊
