I think the entirety of the fandom is thoroughly capable of comprehending how morally, psychically complex she really is. but her tragic cain complex, unsatisfied electra negative complex, sentimental repression due to non-reciprocity, hunger for validation and approval, fear of abandonment, rapid demonization to avoid the before-mentioned one, and the BPD implicit symptomatology, does NOT excuse her for the terrible, abusive acts she has perpetuated and how she did NOT gain her totally effortless redemption arc. We can be a Catra enjoyer, but not enabler.

Like going through slow and deep mind changes, sacrificing to to a good thing, and then grow to accept help, work on anger issues, manage traumas and even face abuser, is effortles. Gaining redemption is a thing only for spectators, because we need to be convinced that the character can become better (which in the case of Catra is comething people have been rooting for during the whole show, and has been setted up many times, especially during late season 4-beginning season 5). But you don't "gain" or "earn" redemption, you go through it. It is something you accomplish yourself. However the thing they missed with Catra is how she was forgiven, because here it was a bit too effortless. I can completely buy Adora, Glimmer and even Entrapta forgiving her easily after seeing her changes, but I would have loved a much harsher rejection from the other princesses than "punching first but if Adora says it's ok, then it's okay". The distinction between forgiveness and redemption has to be made because there two foundamental and distinct notions that I feel people are confused about when it comes to Catra, because her redemption arc and her forgiveness arc are mixed up for the sake of her development (and because they lacked time). In other cases we grant forgiveness to character who has already achieved redemption, because we've seen them grow, so we forgave them before the other characters. But when the two are mixed together, like here, characters forgive Catra at the time she goes through her redemption arc, so they forgive her before the spectators, and that's why a lot of people complain about it. To take a clear example : MAJOR SPOILERS from Avatar : The Last Airbender !!! Zuko has already accomplished his redemption arc when he escaped the Fire Nation, even if the Gaang rejected him at first sight, but that's only the beginning of his forgiveness arc. Him ackowledging to other the bad things he has done and earning forgiveness is completely distinct from his redemption, which he has already accomplished, not earned or gained. However by doing this distinction, he earned forgiveness for the spectator when he achieved his redemption arc. If Catra had her redemption arc achieved before she met the rest of the group again, we would have thought the exact opposite : that she deserves forgiveness, but the characters would have taken more time. However, the redemption of Catra could not have happened this way, because of both the external story going on and the very core of her character.

Listen them redeeming her shows me i can be better too it gives me hope im not some doomed soul, cuz i wanna do good. and thats why i think lotor should have the same end and it was really hard hitting for people who struggle , especially people with bpd aand heavy trauma, who relate most to those characters to say yeah your souls doomed eternal go f yourself. when they clearly have good ... now guys like zarkon is another story. zarkon was born sorta corupt and selfish he just got worse. zarkon wasnt sorry and zarkon was cruel. zarkon chose, while lotor had no choice and was doing THE BEST HE FELT HE COULD with WHAT HE HAD AT THE TIME. and they didnt even give him a final shot! they didnt even TRY to talk over what they found in the pods. they were probably alive and could have been saved! what if thats what he really wanted? but went about it wrong? alura doesnt know he couldnt have been trained better ways! he was willing to work it out.
@@AlphaTengua yeah like, nobody owes anyone forgiveness, but when you've done terrible things the path of least resistance may well be to continue doing them. taking a different path and no longer repressing the guilt is difficult and painful, and unambigously a good thing. If someone else chooses to forgive and trust someone who has hurt them in the past, or hurt others in the past, that's not necessarily any business of mine.

They both refused to be loved- and they live in a world where love is the most powerful thing they have. Isn't it a cruel thing, that they only knew what they had when they lost it? Isn't it a cruel thing, that once they knew what they wanted, they nearly lost it again? Isn't it cruel that it didn't take time, nor friendship, nor togetherness for them to realize what they had? No. It took blood, sweat, and tears. Bad blood, fight-sweat, desperate tears. But they never hated each other. No matter how much they tried to convince themselves otherwise: They never hated each other. That was the one thing their love forbid. She was raised believing that she should do terrible things and that it was all she was capable of. She didn't just decide to do terrible things she was emotionally and physically abused since young into believing that's what she should do and when Adora left her behind she became what she raised to be because she lost the one person who wanted to be her friend and support her.

She was an abused child pushing away the whole world. I've seen many people with this type of arguments, and they've all seemed to have forgotten one basic thing : She-Ra is a fantasy story in a fantasy world where 16-years-old girls can lead army and manipulate tremendous magic powers. It is meant to be an exageration of reality to pass a message. Like nobody in the real world is meant to take The Lord of the Rings on words and go alone toppling a whole country like Russia, She-Ra is not saying that destroying the planet with a magic weapon is forgiveable. What is at stakes here is feelings, what is said here is that even if you had been a toxic person, even if you have pushed away everyone, the whole world, even if you think that nobody on Earth cares for you and everybody hate you, there is hope, you can become a better person, and you can find forgiveness. And that's a message teenagers are able to get straight out the show.

never had a character hit my soul the way catra does, i never felt so close and relatable.
