    "I am not a Kruu..." this chick is on the road to have the most fights in Thailand history and says she's no Kruu. While in the US we have dudes that have never climbed over the ropes forcing ppl to call them "kruu." Sylvia is a humble OG.

    Let's go Sylvie! To me you're one of the most important figures in Muaythai

  • @NickDoyle
    @NickDoyle Před 4 lety +66

    My Notes on Sylvie's clinch intro
    How the clinch is her saviour as a shorter fighter
    Arm around neck, elbow pushed into front of chest, leverage
    Keep head in nook for contact control "burrowed in like a tick"
    Spin from closer position is easier that further away, like swinging ball on a string
    Manoeuvre using whole body not just muscling around with arms
    Ideally don't make space by moving back, but by pushing opponent back (though can pivot)
    Escape from face mush
    #1 (easiest but for some reason uncommon) move face
    #2 wrench arm 46:00
    Secret bonus move
    Your left arm is inside
    Thumb down so elbow pointing up
    Get your elbow up over inside
    Then crank it in, like uppercut, then you have control
    Think of clinch more like a marathon, constant jockeying for position, rather than decisive "I've scored"
    To Sylvie's thinking, less about fixed combos, and more about general principles applied with intuition (built from practice)

      Sorry I know I’m posting a lot! Lol but just watching her move these men around effortlessly using PURE technique and not force is an absolute joy to watch. We don’t get many opportunities to see a master at work. She probably would refer to herself as a masterBut I know what one looks like when I see one

    I remember the first time I realized Cheng Pei Pei as the Golden Swallow was my first female hero, and the paradox that while it didn't matter that she was a woman, it still felt good to know that I had found one. The more of your stuff I watch, the more I think I found my second woman hero. Watching your early recordings with Master K, and him telling you to thrust out your hips for the knee, and you having trouble with it, to you making videos ten years later, scarred up, teaching how the greatest muay thai fighters of all time have taught you to approach the concept of knees differently, hits me right in the gut. What a story, and what a hero.

    Absolutely excellent seminar, the hour felt like ten minutes, principles, basic and not-so-basic techniques, details, jokes, from someone who has very objectively proven these skills time and again against opponents who are almost always bigger.
    Teaching is a very different skill than doing, and Sylvie has it. Maybe from all the years of being such a receptive student to a variety of high level instructors? Yes, but it's more than that. Great video, thank you for sharing, ka kun maak krap

    • @Merrick
      @Merrick Před 4 lety +2

      @@HAKIMJESUSISLORD wow, that's a big partner. Use the "Sylvie"; get your forehead under their chin and lock it with a long clinch. It's mean but effective. Double unders, body lock if you're allowed. If you can break the posture (maybe the forearm across neck demonstrated in video) you'll be in a good spot since it's going to be difficult for 6'8 to get hips back. Depending on your height disparity it might be difficult to get to the body if you do get them crunched over, if so attack the legs

      @@HAKIMJESUSISLORD that's a bit tricky at first, but with continued sparring, I hope you come away with the same conclusion I did, that once your inside game is great, you prefer a taller opponent, like Tyson did. They can't do much up close, because they can't snake those long libs as easily. It's a rouse, keep working. That's the old world talking to ya, and you still believe it. Course, I'm a Judoka, so for me, I balk at the tall and lumbering. More like "I got up for this?" than "Where is my sling and stone, cause that dude's Goliath..."

Also thank you for validating a point I had thought was pretty obvious when attending one club many moons ago: if your range is shorter, the clinch is a pretty good place to seek. No joke, I was paired up with this guy who was over seven inches taller than me with very long limbs and the genius senior student was telling me to stay on the outside (!) Love the limb control and the candid way you explain the unlikelihood of holding the double collar-tie/plum position in a match. Easily some of the best Muay Thai teaching on here.

    Sylvie, you are inspiration. Not only your work to document technics is remarquable, but your way to teach is so clear. You although have a way to think and to fight very honest. Would have loved to join the group and learn not only from the expert, but also from the person. Only complain which is not : each time I see one of your videos, I think I have to change everything I thought I got right from my training in Thaïland. Correcting these automatisms seem harder than getting new ones. Thanks for your smile.

    Silvie,
    You are a beam of light in a dark world. Love you sister. Love the content. Love the humility. Thank you so much.

    This is an amazing resource. So helpful to see you going around and correcting everybody's technique rather than just watching you demonstrate it yourself.

    I've learnt more here about clinching than what my intermediate class has shown. Love the detail and steps through and the analogies to understand why we do things.
