thank you for this video. i have had the same problem 2 times already ( no running light but brake and License Plate light works). apparently this is a common problem with this LED assembly. I tried your fix and it worked! will be sealing the assembly and see how long it works. I am tired of buying this Taillight and replacing it every 2-3 years !
I have same taillight. Brake and plate light was working. Running light no. Just did everything the same. Didnt have the tester so have to test when installing it back. But thank you before hand for this. Tried google to find spare or new one without any results. Then found your video. Thank you

I had to buy as many as three used taillight (and was lucky to find them) to verify that they all have the same problem of track corrosion in the exact same spot. Today i replaced the Tail Light again and did some YT research, found your Video an will start to disassemble the 3 failed Tail Lights that i already own (well - 7 yrs of Sportster Ownership comes with a Price Tag - in my Case, 3 failed Taillights and one dripping drain RUbe (not to forget the three Batteries that died). Hey - great video!! I have same tail light and the running light has suddenly just stopped working on my 2017 xl1200c custom. Brake and number plate light are fine. You have given me confidence tol pull it apart this weekend and see what’s going on. Cheers!!

Was just wondering if you ever found out what the problem was? I have a 2015 XLcustom and have the same problem, everything works besides my running light
@@CreossCross I think the problem lies in the sealant that joins the red eyelid to the rest of the headlight body. When I disassembled the headlight, I noticed that the sealant was very hard; in my opinion with bad weather and thermal excursions it loses its characteristics.
This isn't a replacement headlight, this is an OEM headlight from a 2014 sportster XL1200CA (EU model). You can buy it from Harley-Davidson dealers or used by someone.

did anyone try an aftermarket LED replacement taillight for this sportster model? the original Taillight will fail every 2-3 years anyhow..
