    The DEWALT PowerStack is an amazing battery, but at this point in time, it really should be limited in use to smaller tools. It will power this 6-1/2" saw well, but for a very short period of time.
    The Pouch-Style cells in the DEWALT PowerStack are fitted on top of each other with little room for these battery cells to breathe. That lack of room seems to make these batteries run hotter on larger amp draw tools. We have very curious to see these pouch cells in a larger configuration.
    It does help you understand more about the DEWALT PowerStack and also the premise of this video if you have watched the prior 3 videos. We use some of the same drills and bits so we should know the performance. It also helps you to see how far pulled back these cells become when hot if you have seen them run in normal conditions.
    The DEWALT PowerStack is an amazing battery pack with a ton of power. It likes a bit of rest between its uses, but the performance is amazing! If this is the future, it is looking pretty amazing since we only have a very small 1P battery pack at this time. These packs in a 2P or 3P configuration would be able to power DEWALT Miter Saws, Table Saws, and heaven maybe open up larger tools to come over to battery power without a loss in power. This technology of pouch cells could do a lot of the outdoor power equipment side of the battery-powered world.
    Overall, the performance of both the DEWALT PowerStack and the XR 5.0Ah were very similar when hot, but there seems to be more of a difference when the batteries become heat soaked. The pouch-style PowerStack seems to slow more when really hot.

    It's a interesting glimpse into what will likely come out of the pipe. Right now I don't have the need to rush out and buy the 1.7 power stacks but as they evolve with higher amp hours is when I might be more interested.

    Great channel, solid review. The power stack on the 850 is perfect for screwing off decking and exterior trim…impact drivers shouldn’t be used for installing lags or flatloks or timberloks, impact wrench’s should be used for that

    With how minuscule compact and subcompact impact drivers have become lately, they're starting to look a little silly with the normal 5ah batteries hanging off the bottom. They're essentially as big as the driver itself. The powerstack batteries seem to help make the size of the battery more dimensionally appropriate to the smaller tools while keeping power output high. I'll be interested to see how other manufacturers respond.

    • @WorkshopAddict
      @WorkshopAddict  Před 2 lety +1

      In one of the drill videos I drained the Powerstack and the 5.0 Ah still had half a charge. In this video, 3.5 cuts drained the battery. The current power stack is 1.7Ah and as we said in the video, it will last 33% as long as the 5Ah battery. While it can put out the same power as 2P cells, it still is a 1P pack that is not rated with high Ah. Amp Hour is Amp hour and doing the same tasks, the runtime of this battery compared to any other can be calculated as a percentage of it.

    • @scottdezieck7056
      @scottdezieck7056 Před 2 lety +1

      Thank you for this information. I did hear you mention that in the video about the 5a v.s. power stack percentage difference on paper but just double checking if that worked out in actual real testing. I will go back and check out the one with you doing the drill test with power stack. I watch all your videos, will have to see if I missed this one some how. Thank you for getting back to me. Hope you and your family had a great Thanksgiving.

    • @WorkshopAddict
      @WorkshopAddict  Před 2 lety +2

      @@scottdezieck7056 From my use, and from testing other batteries, it is true. Our drill test shows most of it. We have put a 2P 4.0Ah bosch against the 1P compact 4Ah and they had the exact same runtime in a vacuum. Ah is Ah no matter what under the same load. Now the powerstack pan push more amps, so with a higher amp draw, that battery would die faster than a normal compact, but that is not fair to say since the other compacts cannot push the amps.

    I'm not seeing any value in these batteries right now. 1.7ah 2 pack is $179 right now, while a traditional 5ah 2 pack can be gotten for $150 or 200+free tool. The powerstack is a lot more money for a lot less runtime. For what? If compact is necessary then we already have a 12v system. The whole point of 20v tools is more power and more runtime.
    Powerstack is $2.6/wh when in a 2 pack for $179
    3ah 20v are $0.82/wh when in a 2 pack for $99
    5ah XR 20v are $1/wh in a 2 pack for $199, plus charger and currently free tool.
    Maybe once they release higher capacity powerstacks and lower the prices they'll be worthwhile, but right now you're just spending more money for the "new" thing with no actual value.

      We also found in other tests that the Powerstack battery likes to be warmed up, even when warm. I did not think it would make a difference in a long cut, but when drilling, it takes a large hole or two for the battery to kick in and give it everything. This makes more sense if you seen our drill video on this battery. I also might have slightly slowed on the second go around to compensate, but it does not look that way.
