    @stuartwarner6719 Před rokem

    Many thanks Jack. Lots of good info and great images. I've booked flights to south airport Tenerife to do the GR 131 in early February. A few questions:
    1) I prefer to use ethanol in my home made hobo stove. Anyone know what 90% alcohol is called in Spanish and what kind of stores I could buy it? I guess painting/DIY stores but don't know where any are. I have an MSR dragonfly that will burn petrol, but it's loud and heavy.
    2) Which month did you sleep with a 0'C quilt? I have a choice of 2 sleeping bags. Western Mountaineering Summerlite (comfort 0'C, 500g) or Mountain Equipment Snowline (comfort -20'C, 1300g). Will use a silk liner with either. My shelter is Z Packs hexamid (original design with separate oversized groundsheet so I can control ventilation to a decent degree, but it's not a warm double-skin tent). My wool underwear is heavy enough that if I had to take it to supplement the Summerlite, I would rather carry the extra down of the Snowline instead and be guaranteed warm. What do you think?
    3) When filing up with public/restaurant washroom water, did you filter/purify or were you just fine without?
    Cheers in advance,
    Stu

    • @jackbrookes
      @jackbrookes  Před rokem

      Hey Stu cheers for the comment! In regards to the questions:
      1) I’m not sure on finding the ethanol sorry - I tried a few DIY/camping stores on Lanzarote that had propanol but can’t remember seeing any 90% alcohol
      2) I hiked in winter Dec/Jan and used a 4 deg sleeping quilt and I was at times too warm…some nights a bit more chilly but I had a thermal I would just whip on and I was fine with that. I think you’d be okay with your 0’C Summerlite quilt 👌
      3) yes I used a filter for all water I collected and didn’t have any issues. Met some hikers who used the water from bathrooms without filtering and they said they didn’t have any issues

    • @jackbrookes
      @jackbrookes  Před 3 měsíci +1

      I can definitely put together a trip breakdown in the future for sure! A rough estimate for the 4 weeks:
      - $150 flights
      - $400 for ~ 5 nights accomodation
      - $15/day food, more if eating a meal out and coffee
      - $50 each ferry
      - $5 public transport when needed to get on/pff the trail
      That’s a rough guide but I’ll see if I can get a more detailed list together!
