  • Hello and welcome to another video of Basic Fishing. This video is continuing off from my previous video of my boat fishing trip off the Manukau Harbour where with a slow start, I managed to get myself a few legal snappers, kahawais and my first gurnard off the boat.
After a slow start, we slowly managed to get more fish on the bite. The last time I was on the boat I managed to catch many good panny sized snapper with no problems at all but for reason the fish we caught were really small and it was hard to find those good sized snapper like before but we did managed to check a few legal sized snappers to take home with us. But after a long time and with a bit of patiences as well as trying something different, my luck finally changed…….

Great snapper! I got one about the same size in Raglan using a 9 dollar line in a piece of wood, using chiken breast as bait. It's a nice sensation! Good video. Congrats!!!

Firstly great catch! A few questions what is the best time to go out on the Manukau harbor? And also what type of boat is that and what is the engine size. Thanks mate 👍

tbh any time is good for the manukau harbour. during the summer period you get the snapper and winter you get the kahawai and guranrd. im not sure about the boat sorry.

Best time is usually down to preference . However if your ramp allows it i'd go early morn at low tide to fish the in coming & out going & not necessarily stay in the same spot . Papakura channel has been real good along the edge of the banks in 15-20 ft of water not 30-50 so you want to get near edges . fish finder will come in handy to let you know if fish are passing through ,it can take up to two hours of in coming before anything appears so be patient .At the right time if you don't have a lot of burly, throw some out, better still have a continual trail going as it works real good .Looking at where other boats are is also a good indication especially if it's the same boat consistently in same place hahaha. Papakura channel will net you good sized kawhai & some huge 20lb snapper as well as big kingi's .You'll have to find my secret spot on your own hehehe . That 20lbr was small compared to the two that broke off so there's bigger there, tho now's a bit late due to the water cooling down. look online for manukau harbour chart it's your friend . Then depending on the target species find out what they eat then you'll know where they are i.e trevally for instance like shell fish, shrimp & crabs so you'll find them on the banks or just off them .It's best to use gps & sea charts & over time spend a bit of time in different spots & plot those spots onto gps . edit: foggy days with no wind & flat sea can be really productive
