In the early 1960s, Johnny Pacheco was at the top of Cuban-based Latin music. Born in the Dominican Republic and raised in New York, Pacheco was a Juilliard-trained multi-instrumentalist who found success playing and recording with his Pacheco and Su Charanga orchestra. At the scene, he met Italian-American policeman-turned-attorney Jerry Masucci, a passionate fan of the Latin sound from New York. When Pacheco's marriage fell apart in 1962, he turned to Masucci to handle the divorce. As one union dissolved, another was born: a Latin music label called Fania Records. The two put $ 5,000 into their company and initially sold albums from their car trunks in Spanish Harlem. The label, in no time, established the musical genre that would become known as salsa, a collision of the traditional Cuban / Dominican SON and pan-Latin rhythms, such as African American jazz and funk.

Lol!! Bruh, what is your beef with Boricuas? See this is why Boricuas let ya have it the way ya deserve to hear it, and it's the reason ya hate us so much. I'm gonna give it to you straight up now and this is going to hurt. Ready? Your boy Johnny would have never gotten to where he was if it wasn't for the Nuyoricans. Say something. Salsa consists of Puerto Rico music that existed 3 to 4 centuries before ANY Cuban music kid!! Cuban music had very little contribution in Salsa. The Clave? The two sticks from Spain derived from Africa that are banged together? What about the güicharo, or güiro from Puerto Rico’s music? The musical traditions of the Spanish and Africans can also be heard in Puerto Rico's music. At least four different instruments were adapted from the six-string Spanish classical guitar: the requinto, the bordonua, the cuatro, and the triple? What is Salsa without the drum percussion from PRs Bomba music from the 16th century? What about PRs Plena music created centuries before any Cuban Son? How about you try answering these questions for us? You said Dominican Son? Lmfaooo!!!! Ya ain't got no "Son" boy stop it!!
THEN came the Jazz, Rock, R&B, and Funk from the US that the Nuyoricans blended in. What now? Did I just give you a reason to hate on us some more? Lol! I can hear your hate pumping in your heart from here as you read this.

Salsa did not come from Africa. From the Africans descendants of Cuba yes, but not actually from Africa. Just like Jazz did not originate in Africa but the from the African descendants in New Orleans. There was a push to say it was from Africa back before the internet by the Puerto Rican community because they knew that it was from Cuba and not Puerto Rico. Bomba and Plena are from Puerto Rico but most Salsa that came from New York was Cuban music.

You think so? So you're saying there is no such thing as an Afro-Rican? Lol! Did you know Salsa consists of Puerto Rico music that existed 3 to 4 centuries before any Cuban music? Are you referring to the Clave? The two stick from Spain derived from Africa that are banged together? What about the güicharo, or güiro from Puerto Rico’s music? The musical traditions of the Spanish and Africans can also be heard in Puerto Rico's music. At least four different instruments were adapted from the six-string Spanish classical guitar: the requinto, the bordonua, the cuatro, and the triple? What is Salsa without the drum percussion from PRs Bomba music from the 16th century? What about PRs Plena music created centuries before any Cuban music? How about you try answering these questions for us?

First of all the Conga, which is what you call it, does not come from Africa, the conga which the real name is Tumbadoras, Comes from Cuba, then also the rhythms that directly make salsa, which is the son, guaracha, guaguanco, all come from Cuba, though they have Africa influences, none of them were developed in Africa, but rather Cuba..

Whether you like it or not, there wouldn't be Salsa without black people. Where did those black people come from? When?
What did they eat? What did they believe in? How did they sing or dance?
Where did "skin on wood" originate from?

Wrong, Salsa is NYRican music derived from Africa. PR music came before Cuban music kid. ALLLL percussions are from Africa, Puerto Rico’s Bomba music was mostly percussion, and that genre is much older than any Cuban genre by CENTURIES. You don’t hear Puerto Ricans saying percussions come from Puerto Rico. Cubans just named those percussions using “LP.” All other instruments you can mention were also used in Puerto Rico’s Plena which is ALSO much older than Cuban Son, and all other Cuban genres... “From Africa to Euro/Latin countries.” Salsa is a genre all on its own from NYC derived from blends of Black American music as well. Why should one nationality take credit for something that was created by NYRicans just because it holds only one of your genres in it? From our foods, to our culture, to our many ways of living, many words in our vocabulary, our upbringing, belief systems, many traditions, rules, instruments, and our music. All African. Any Latino that cannot distinguish the differences in Latin sounds should be ashamed of themselves. Especially those that think only Cubans had Black Africanos and yet dare to say it had nothing to do with Africa. Smh...

@@BXTITAN All percussions come from Africa...lol. What the hell does that mean.
ALL the percussion instruments you hear Tumbadoras, bongo, clave etc, were developed in Cuba, look it up.
The only thing that I agree with you is that many African cultures are centuries older than Cuba, and they never advanced more than primitive beats, through out 2000 years.
Salsa is nothing more than Cuban music stolen by NY Ricans, as Canadien bass player Ry Cooder said PR Music in the late 60’s early 70;s sounded awfully similar th Cuban music from the 40’s and 50’s.

I'll go with the MASTER MUSICIAN & ARRANGER/Composer on this question of, "what is salsa."
"TITO" PUENTE said, "salsa" is sauce used by a Chef 👨‍🍳 in a kitchen to cook, NOT 🎶 the name of the music he plays.

Why you guys don’t really get information from factual and reliable sources ? Salsa is SIMPLY a commercial name given to mostly ( if not all of them ) to Cuban rhythms PERIOD. Funny is that here on CZcams there are PLENTY videos from Oscar de Leon, Papo Lucca, Tito Puentes, Ruben Blades, Machito, Celia Cruz, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Johnny Pacheco and many many many more saying exactly that. I was born and raised in Santiago de Cuba and when I arrived to USA in 1994 and heard the word “salsa” and then listen to such could not stop laughing at it 😂 .. yet many musical ( QAnon ) believers swear that is “some new creation” it actually ridiculous and absurd, Yet people listen to these clowns poor musicians wanna be and drink their cool aid 🤮 ..
Please inform yourself, by the way I could be the whole freaking night putting vids here of very old Cuban music and if you’re objective enough and or knowledgeable about Cuban music/rhythms you’ll notice it right away.
Plenty material here with Machito, Arsenio Rodríguez, Mario Bauza, Miguelito Valdez etc that will very clearly let you see and listen to it, is Cuban rhythms, many Cuban born instruments etc etc and peeps still talking crap .. anyhow
