Will never forget this game, just a different breed of footballer back then

"And that's the ball game"... When done Blocker. Loved watching him play for the Tigers but as a commentator, he's never been short of the odd clanger.
And to think, if Johns makes that last conversion then it really would have been the ball game! 1 from 5...

Good work Martin Lang chasing a very quick and fast rod wishart

These days footy cannot match the footy back in the day to legendary ,grit and strength they would tear this day and age up

Would they? The plays seem a lot more sloppy back then compared to today.

These teams would get smashed by today's teams.

your crazy, players like webke wouldnt even make some starting firstgrade sides. the best forwards nowadays are the complete package, offloading, stepping, even kicking. + its a faster game too, a totally different level of fitness. Some of these old guys were borderline overweight, now everyones built like a spartan. As for grit, maybe. Lang's run was pretty incredible.

@@FirstDateFrt they were better footballers back then, they’re better athletes today. To suggest webcke wouldn’t make modern team, you never saw him play, he is in the top 5 props of all time and none of them are playing now. So your theory is shot to ribbons right there.
      1. Arthur beetson
      2. Petro civoniciva
      3. Glenn Lazarus
      4. Shane webcke
      5. Duncan hall.
Also an important distinction between today’s athletes and 1998 was there was no interchange limit in 1998 so Alfie langer, Kevin Walters, Darren Lockyer, Brad Fittler, Andrew johns, Laurie Daley are all ripping up teams with fresh troops. In 1998 Wayne Bennett made best use of his interchange by putting defensive guys like Ryan, Carroll, campion on while in defence and as soon as in attack, Tallis, thorn, Lee would take their place. So the games in different eras required different levels of fitness. But if you gave the players back then the same training diet and fitness levels as today, modern players who can only do second man plays would be picked apart by the likes of Alfie and Joey. Freddie and Lockyer.

The day Alfie langer and Kevin Walters taught Brad Fittler, Laurie Daley, Andrew johns and Mathew johns how origin is played.

because MFers had spent decades punching heaters at half time and having guts. you have a gut these days, in those tight outfits, boyyyy it's game over

I know this is a nitpick probably no-one else cares about but why did the scoreboards in the 90's only show one team's name? Was the technology to have two teams names not invented yet? 😆😆

    • @troystaunton254
      @troystaunton254 Pƙed 3 lety +1

Probably not. Honestly watch a game from 1995 there wasn’t even a score board on the screen. You’d have to count the tackles and guess the time left yourself. It wasn’t digital yet
.. man I feel old writing this.
