- Season 4 of ATX TV Festival ended with a Stars Hollow shaped Closing Night, the 15 year reunion of #GilmoreGirls cohosted with Entertainment Weekly.
First we talked with just the girls (Amy Sherman Palladino, Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel, and Kelly Bishop), before inviting the rest of the town to join in: Scott Patterson, Jared Padalecki, Milo Ventimiglia, Matt Czuchry, Keiko Agena, Yanic Truesdale, Liz Torres, Liza Weil, Jackson Douglas, Todd Lowe, John Cabrera, Danny Strong, and Daniel Palladino.

Isa Inc. for real. I wanted Rory to be a successful journalist and for Logan to fall off a cliff. I had also hoped Luke and Lorelai had already been married instead of just dating for ten years. Emily’s arc was the only one I really enjoyed. Oh and I would’ve liked for Lane to at least run the music shop or be a music teacher instead of just running her moms store.

The only end that WE deserve is the one that Amy had planned, is HER series. I think it's a little bit selfish to think that she owes us something after giving us all those years of work, and all the characters we love so much. And I say it as a writer. But if she wants to give us more of this great series at some point, that would make me happy.

Kelly Bishop is an absolute delight. She has my complete attention every time she speaks.

She literally is Lorelei Gilmore! Wondering how much of Lauren Graham's character was taken on from Kelly and how much were their inherent similarities. Listening to Kelly, all I could hear from Lorelei
I love her! Her character was incredible because we really got to hate her at times but also got to feel tenderly for her and understanding her complexity.
About 40 minutes in, the cast was searching for Emily quotes and someone in the audience yelled “buy me a boa and drive me to Reno because I’m open for business” my favorite quote in the whole series!

Yeah, like there was always food everywhere in Sookie's kitchen. Like even if they weren't serving it, the food was out. Like the Halloween sausages.. Who has THAT many kinds of sausages at a moment's notice? Ooooh, Lorelai should have said it was "like a sausage fest in there." LOL

The episode where lorelai graduates and she's walking across the stage and she moves the string in her cap and looks at Richard and Emily and they look so proud and Emily cries.... Man that scene is soooo good. This was a great show. I loved watching every day after lunch while doing my homework.

I loved when Luke’s actor said “none of you are good enough for Rory’”
The best line from Kelly was at the bank when Lorelei was trying to get a loan and didn’t know her mom was there.
“Mom, is that you?”
“No, I’m a hologram...lifelike isn’t it?”
It was a pivot point for the character where she started softening from a nearly pure hardass to having more color and humor woven into her bearing.
Plus the line is very Lorelai-like in construct and sarcasm, but delivered slightly clipped as if to say she’s going to lightly mock her daughter’s flip attitude in serious places...but she kinda likes it and it begins her slow...slooooow....journey to being able to relate to Lorelei the way Lorelei and Rory do.
That and:
“In high school I was rummaging through her room and she had a drawer filled with nothing but tootsie roles. Who has a drawer full of tootsie rolls.”
Grandpa: perhaps it was whatever was under the tootsie rolls...”

"More color and humor woven into her bearing," that is beautifully and eloquently-put. Emily remains the most fascinating Gilmore Girls character to me. Her arc and overall journey was so masterfully acted by Kelly Bishop. Your description was simply perfection.

@@tristan7844 Kirk is indeed quite interesting and in truth, I remember that as I was growing up with the show, I did not enjoy the Kirk character. I found Kirk too strange to be quirky, frankly irritating and often a superfluous element. Over time during repeated viewings, experiences, and journeys with the show, Kirk has grown on me even more each time I've delved more deeply. Sean Gunn being so talented and the fact that Kirk has a pure heart (his final moment in the revival after learning the wedding decorations were beloved nearly made me cry) have altered my view of the character for the better. 😊

Its a shame Lauren never got an Emmy. She was brilliant saying those lines were hard. And a year after this Gilmore Girls: a year in a life was made. Although I got to watched it only in 2021 when I got netflix.

I know there is probably lots of us, but I was 16 when I started watching this and Rory was 16 as well and I LOVED it more than anything. Now I'm 32 and have been re-watching it. It's so bittersweet to re watch it now as Lorelei's age after watching it as Rory's age. It's interesting how I perceive it differently now and relate to the Lorelei's character more as opposed to Rory's then, being the exact age of each of them then and now
I am having the exact same experience. It's so weird, I feel like I'm watching a different show but it's just my perspective that's changed. Still love it :)

They also might have worn their own clothes at some points in the series. Extra and featured extras and guest stars often do. Supporting actors do as well sometimes

Please come out with another Gilmore girls but Lauren Graham said she felt like that was the finale goodbye. But I still have hope.!

This interview was filmed 6 years ago, yet I watched this show only in 2022. I am amazed by me NEVER hearing about this show until I randomly seeing it on Netflix, but it was a truly fascinating show, I loved it so much and it felt so real. Thanks to the cast for making it happen🥲❤️

It’s literally her creation. Actors are there to serve the vision of the creator. Audiences like actors because that’s who they see on the screen, but they’re just filling the role that the creator envisioned. Unpopular comment but this is the reality of all these shows that you guys love so much.

Good for that little boy at the end standing his ground. Amy made a lot of condescending remarks about age and tactless jokes throughout this panel. I love this show and cast in all of its brilliance, and this was basically my first time seeing Amy SP speak and be interviewed. I want to like her but I just don't. Her posture came off as bored and entitled, and she monopolized a lot of the questions being asked. She seemed almost flippant in a way, which was disrespectful to the fans that were so passionate and excited to be there. That being said I love this cast so much, and they really did make something truly magical. There are very few TV programs out there that when you watch them, it makes you feel like you're coming home in the best way. I really enjoyed A Year in the Life. It was a gift to be able to go back to Stars Hollow and finally receive a lot of closure that the series finale didn't provide.
This show is also very dear to me because Lorlei and Rory have a very similar repport to me and my own mother ❤
I couldn't agree more. I absolutely thought she was rude and condescending. Every single comment she made was just odd...and not in a good, fun, or quirky way.
I think she's very similar to Lorelai, too. Only dif is Lauren is likeable. Not everybody can be a Lauren. Amy is sarcastic and funny, but she sucks at delivery, which makes sense why she's the writer and Lauren is the actress.

I was just shaking my head in surprise when she was talking about how hilarious it would have been if the other actress was still in the car with Lauren when Lauren got the phonecall telling her she got the job. No car, in a strange city and without a job hahaha.. haha.. ha? Why is that hilarious?

I just LOVE this show. It’s like a warm blanket, it’s comfort food. It’s everything I need when I feel sad and no show can even try to compare! I cannot count how many rewatches I have done through the years... I am rewatching the series again now and I’m on season 5 atm. What I like the most about GG is that it feels like home.

Well from recent informations she had a child last year. So she was pregnant at the time of this panel and probably trying to hide that.

Having watched the reboot now, I LOVE how Logan replicated Christopher as the rich guy with a good family background who never really works hard enough, but she is consistently mesmerized with, but he is the one that keeps going in and out of her life. Jess is Luke which makes quite the sense since they're the same family, but also, he is the introverted somber guy, who doesn't get along with all the other townspeople but LOVES Roty, and Dean is Max, or someone like that who is great, but just not quite good enough for Rory!
I understand the parallel with the final four words but cannot stand that they used it! Lorelai was 16 so it made sense and her and Christopher were actually in a relationship but having Rory go through the same thing at 32 is just sad and poor writing which for Gilmore girls is such a let down

Alexis does seem different than most Hollywood stars. It actually is kinda nice to see that she's shy and more reserved, she's more relatable to other quiet people like me. Its so rare for you to see that with celebrities. Maybe this is wierd, but I get a Princess Diana vibe from her, just her mannerisms, how she talks to the people in the crowd, ect. Anyone else notice that?

My heart actually broke for Lindsay several times. There's nothing wrong with wanting to be a housewife or stay at home mom. She should've been more supportive of Dean's education but she didn't deserve how Dean and Rory treated her throughout the life of her character on the show.

Amy talking about 20-year-olds being too young for the show makes me laugh. I'm in my mid-20s and started watching the show when I was 8! A lot of girls my age, when we were 8-11ish, watched the show with their moms.
I'm 26 and was a fan sice I was young too. To me, it came off as condescending every time she said something along the lines of "being too young" or "too young to remember"
this show began the year i was born! i didn’t get introduced to the show until i was 15 (now 20) but it was a big part of my teen years and now in my college years. i think it’s funny that she said that. as if shows can’t transcend across many different generations. the show is on netflix, who did she expect to start watching it? 😂 i think she’s a bit pretentious

Paris was such a great character. She’s an excellent actress!
I watch the show with my teenage daughter and it's very bonding for us. We are binge watching during the coronavirus. I would never have thought to watch it otherwise. I laugh at Paris, root for Dean, and if I was 200 years younger I could have a crush on Rory. I'm old enough that I get pretty much every reference that Loreili makes (some of them are pretty obscure). It was an excellent show, so far we're only beginning to watch the fifth season, and it's wonderful time my daughter gets to spend with her dorky, basically uncool and usually clueless dad who laughs at his own jokes. It lets me into her world and gives us so much to talk about. I love this show for that.

this show started when I was being born and I started watching now as a teen and love its so unique and different from what is being produced nowdays
That's cool. I was 16 when the show started, Rory's age and adored it. And I have been re-watching it now from the beginning on netflix and now I'm 32, Lorelei's age on it... So it's weird/cool to watch it both ways!

Yup. I don't know any other show that matches the truly original humor of Gilmore Girls.
I find it so awesome how famous Rory's boyfriends all became. Logan ( Matt) became Cary Agos on a show that won so many awards.
Dean (Jared) is now a part of comic con super stardom with a cult fan base as Sam.
And of course..Jess ( Milo) became the father and husband for the ages as Jack Pierson. Good jumping off point for all these adorable guys.
Did they all get Emmy's like Alexis did.
Excellent expose' of the characters, the writing, the casting, the exposition, the content, the flow. Love it! I just discovered The Gilmore Girls during the Pandemic a couple months ago and I watch a couple episodes a night I have always loved the writing and the quick delivery that the characters execute. Brilliant writing and performances. So clever, witty and fast paced. So thankful to have discovered it on Netflix. Never heard of it when it was on TV but then again I've never been much of a TV watcher. Thanks to you all and ATXFestival you did a marvelous job of assembling this show and hosting.

Sookie was sorely missing in person. and in name. She was one of the best parts of the show. These are talented actors but interviews are difficult and can be tricky. Often actors don’t come off as well when they are unscripted. I have seen that happen many times. There is an awkwardness vibe present and with a large group such as this, some hardly speak at all.

I miss 'Richard' - Edward Herrmann so so so much! I loved his role very much! He is missed and never forgotten ❤
Honestly, watching this show took me to another place. Especially the first season. Richard and Emily remind me of my grandparents and oddly enough they have the same Initials as them which makes my heart melt even more. I lost my grandfather in 2016 when they aired A Year In The Life so it definitely hit home.
I remember the first time I accidentally discovered the Gilmore Girls. It was Lorelei that caught my attention. She was very witty, sarcastic, and drop dead gorgeous! It was hook, line, sinker for me. I'm a huge fan of witty leggy women! Lorelei was all of that and then some! Ironically being a man, I could relate to almost everything going on in the show.
I was actually embarrassed to admit I loved the show. It seems like it would be a girly show. It was really no different than Threes Company, anyone and everyone could watch the show and relate to it in one way or another.
My girlfriend and I would binge watch Gilmore Girls every night on netflix. We'd watch 5 or 6 in a row every night. Very addicting show!!! Many Kuddos to everyone that made this show possible and to all of the brilliant and talented actors!!
