    Scene: Guy removes screws from a camera
    Music: Epic climatic sequence from an unreleased Alfred Hitchcock movie involving 200 men of the Nazi German army chasing an American spy who's on the run after stealing Hitler's airplane, wife and dog.

    Thanks but I'd be better off just throwing it down the stairs and hope the IR filter falls out on it's own. Maybe then it would still work. But it was fun watching you do it.

    Excellent video. Thanks man. Don't know what the other guys are whining about. Screwing things apart and putting them together is child's play.
    The complicated part is cutting out the filter itself. But still is doable by anyone. I really want to do this, but need an older used DSLR so I have a secondary before ruining a camera for daytime photos.

    So many people seem intimidated by this, basically the most important thing is to be gentle, manage all your screws and where everything comes from, make sure all the right connectors go back in all the right sockets, take pictures of the processes step by step if needed for reference, just be careful and patient, eventually you will do it :)

    Is the 1000d still relevant for astrophotography in 2024? I just bought one from a pawn shop as a set cuz I wanted the included lenses. I'm sure I'm going to put it on eBay, but I was thinking of astro modding it first. I figured it would be fun to try. Good practice if i want try on another more valuable camera and would maybe increase the 1000d's value. Maybe get my lenses for free.... So I guess to restate my question, would anyone want an astro modded XS in 2024 or has time passed it by?

      The benefit is being able to capture the red protons that nebulae give off. But the trade off is, you won't get as many blues or greens. You will have to fill those in with post processing in photoshop.

    • @chrisfleming7531
      @chrisfleming7531  Před rokem

      It was recorded with a cell phone being hand held lol. The crack didn't ruin the camera. It just ruin the chance of reusing that filter. Which I wanted out anyway. I still have the camera and it works well for astrophotography. Can use normally in manual mode with the white balance manually set. Got a 60D that the red eye cut filter was removed as well. Why not buy an astrophotography camera.

    • @mikeries8549
      @mikeries8549 Před 4 lety

      An astrophotography camera is just one part of a 'drive train' required to make it all work.
      Youll need a good laptop and then a telescope and mount. Youll be tempted to buy a second camera to control the aiming part.
      Second little spotting telescope .. it gets crazy with "buy me".
      With a camera, tripod, and star tracker you can do the same stuff minus the telescope and ...a ton of stuff. You asked a good question. Lots of reasons is the answer. Portability is a huge factor. I can pack my stuff into a backpack and go..
      Try that with a twin telescope and a mount capable of carrying it.
      They have small battery operated star trackers that fit in your pocket.
      Now suppose you and your gf are going to Jamaica for 2 weeks and you'd like to take some star pics. Now do you see why you might want to try the modified camera path?
