I could never beat this level lol
I had so much trouble with the puzzle 2. Even now I still don't understand the meaning of it.
The last statement was what threw me off: "I live for laughter, I live for the crowd, WITHOUT IT I AM NOTHING!
I was led to believe that I had to find what "IT" was. It should have been: "WITHOUT THOSE I AM NOTHING!" or even "WITHOUT THEM I AM NOTHING!
Then you'd quickly figure that it was a clown because they live to make the crowd laugh. The original riddle must have been written that way in order to misdirect the player from solving it too quickly.
The first riddle was what gave me a hard time because I was assuming it was a type of person I was looking for lol.

Second puzzle sucks. I had to quit the game over it, it’s bullshit the moment one starts to turn the other is going back to a frown

I’m trying to do the second puzzle exactly how you are doing it and they keep turning the other way I don’t get it

Neither of the grates are opening for me even though I've done everything correctly as far as I can tell

You have to hit both bells in the level for the gate to open
Where is everyone getting better weapons?

What Paddy K said; unfortunately, you have to progress through later levels & defeat bosses or do certain tasks before you can acquire better weapons (like the gold shield, magic sword, hammer, axe, different types of spells, etc.), so unless you do that, and you’re able to progress through the game with ease (mind you, some levels can be tedious & frustrating, or even straight-up unfair), be prepared to use the same weapon & feel like you’re underleveled.

I can't do it
I don't say this often, but I hope someone got fired over that stupid clown puzzle; I have no idea how in the actual frozen over Hell you're supposed to figure that damn pattern out aside from trial and error.
I just kept hitting him with charged up sledgehammer slam a couple of times the one that didn't work for me was the elephant one the rat never appeared
PS1 games have not aged well lol
