How I Iron Perler Beads (Masking Tape vs. Direct Fuse)

  • This is how I iron my perler bead projects! I hope this helps for all of you who have asked me to do an ironing tutorial! This is just how I do things and if you want the same results, most likely you'll have to make different adjustments to your iron. Using masking tape is the safest way to go for ironing, so I definitely recommend using that method for projects as it is what I'll be using for my larger projects that I'll show you in another video. PRACTISE MAKES PERFECT ;)

    I hope this video is helpful in some way! I know it's not easy to iron perler beads especially for those of you who are just starting this hobby, but don't worry, with some practice and patience, you'll definitely get it down and I would love to see your results which you can share to me any time! :)

    I’m very new to Perler beads. I recently was at Joannes and saw they had a gingerbread house kit. I love gingerbread houses, so I went ahead and bought it. I haven’t put it all together yet. I have all of the pegs on the peg boards but I’m using smaller creations to practice my ironing, so I don’t mess up my hard work. For anybody who starting I will say it is very tedious and you have to have lots of patience, but it sure is fun! So far, I’m making a lot of gingerbread men.

    Great video. I am teaching myself & my elderly friend how to do this as a hobby and I do like the method of transferring the design onto painter's tape first, rather than ironing on the board because all we have are those clear pegboards. I like the final results: more uniform ironing on both sides, rather than over heated sides or one side is over melted.

    Was wondering why you use the tape? Just to prevent melting pegs? I did them when I was a kid, and now my son loves them too. I was hoping to find out why sometimes a bead or two will melt extra, and look different, than other beads. I don’t know how to explain other than to say it looks more melted and squished than all the others. I use the medium/medium low setting on my iron.

    I've always ironed mine on the pegboards, even when projects required more than one pegboard. Never thought to use masking tape. One thing I never solved was how most of my projects kept warping to one side. Watching your video made me realize that I always let each side cool off individually instead of ironing both sides as soon as possible, which may have caused them to irrecoverably warp. What do you think?

    • @QDCrafts
      @QDCrafts  Před 7 lety

    0:10 facts. & its very easy to melt/bend your perler bead board aswell if you over iron the beads , when i started out i remember i melted 2 boards & bent 1 board. because i had the iron on too high
    one tip i can give to all you newbies out there is ;
    if your iron has a ''linnen'' setting turn the dial knob to that setting & turn the temperature switch almost all the way up , then put parchment paper over the beads & iron for about 4-10 seconds or until you see circles forming on the parchment , repeat this progress & remove the parchment when the beads are stuck together , then wait for 5-10 minutes for it to cool off & it will plop right off the board , then after its off the board sandwitch it between some parchment paper & iron it until its got the pixel effect you want,
    now give yourself a huge pat on the back , you just ironed your first perler bead masterpiece

      Tenareful I just use the ironing paper that comes with the perler bead buckets, but I can also use baking paper that does not have wax on it. I don't know what is available in NZ but hopefully you can find it at a dollar store or department store!

      Tenareful parchment paper/ wax paper is actually for baking but is used for many other things.check the baking section of a store,maybe that will help you find it.i hope,goodluck :)

    When I iron my beads, on the other side of the project there are star shapes that are weird and ugly. Do you know why that happens?

    The reason to poke holes is to have one side completely smooth
