Video by Felix Sanchez
#Music #VideoGames #NintendoSwitch - Hry
This video couldn't have been timed more perfectly, I'm currently writing music for a game I'm making right now
As a composer/musician myself, I absolutely loved this video! Would love more interviews and videos like this one 😊
Such a great video, love for this to become a sort of mini series: Talking to various people who work in the more creative aspects of video game development.
Joel Corelitz!!
His soundtrack composition for Eastward is such a bop.
He even has his own CZcams channel sharing how he makes his own music.
I really like these felix talks about music, videos
Joel Corelitz’s soundtrack for Eastward is probably in my top 5 fav game OSTs of all time, he is SO talented and I’m so excited to watch this!!!
I would love a part 2 of this video with an interview with David Wise please
Then Grant Kirkhope.
This was a fascinating discussion about video game music and it's many implementations. I learned so much about the process with this discussion, please have more of these discussions with Joel and other leading composers/designers, & the many other aspects of the video game development process.
such a great interview Felix!! congrats dude and I can't to see more interviews you do with more amazing composers!
Great video Felix! And thanks to Joel Corelitz for providing his insights. I actually was wondering myself about how dynamic music was done in games, and I'm glad that subject was discussed too.
Also, hopefully you'll excuse me for waxing lyrical about Eastward's music, but while I've yet to actually buy the game (I will, promise!), I did play it a bit when it was free for a week on the EU e-shop, and I remember when I first booted the game and watched the intro how captivated I was by the music (and few games have that effect on me!). That intro theme, while truly unique and modern, made me immediately think of Chrono Trigger's main theme, not so much in terms of composition but in terms of the feeling it evoked in me. Both themes ooze "grand adventure with world-level stakes", at least to me, and listening to Eastward's intro theme felt a bit like listening to CT's main theme again as if it was the first time in my life ever, a feeling I'd never thought I could experience. If that was what you were going for with this piece, Joel, then it definitely worked with me!
Always happy when game music, and game audio in general, gets the love and attention it deserves
Thank you for exploring this topic!
This is a brilliant video. Joel's compositions for Eastward are some of my favourites from any soundtrack, whether video game, tv, or film
This was very interesting, thank you both! If you ever get the chance to do more of these, that would be great!
This was a great look into videogame music. Also I gotta play Eastward now!
We definitely need Felix interviewing more gaming experts on different topics!
Brilliant stuff, love that you did this interview!
this is sick. i would be really interested to hear from a composer who works with dynamic soundtracks (thinking like Portal and other soundtracks that have motifs that move in and out of the background soundtrack/sound cues/etc)
The music is Eastward is spectacular. Such an interesting talk between Felix and Joel and to hear some of the BTS of video game music composition!
Doing this video but with old school systems like anything before ps1/n64 would be really cool to learn about!
amazing video, thank you both
Eastward is my favorite game score of all time.
Very nice interview, Felix!
I love video game music. Revo's Bravely Default and Bravely Default II are my favorites that I replay daily. I also love Kristofer Maddigan's Cuphead and Cuphead The Last Course are both magnificent as well.
More examples of layered soundtracks: Sonic Frontiers, and Tekken 8.
Frontiers: the open world changes tone through day and night cycles
The stage themes
Boss themes
Everything is affected by the environment, from movement, to surroundings. Or level changes
Tekken 8: Normal vs Climax
Normal would be the Original mix (character theme)
Every character has a theme song, no two are the same. From wild, to dramatic, and impact. You feel the characters emotions in their theme song
Climax is the hybrid, an amped remix that goes to 11. It is more intense, and goes all out.
The castle theme from the Super Mario games is made by playing Shigeru Miyamoto’s farts in reverse and 1.3x speed increase
Very informative Video!. Thank you!
This is very welcome content👌👍🏆
Great video :D
Good music!
Pling plong
I can’t believe Nintendo life reported that it’s all the MLP Friendship is Magic soundtrack remixed in different keys, irresponsible journalism
