رغم اني بفضل الله متحدث اصلي باللغة العربية ورغم اني تعلمت القرآن وأقوم بتعليمه للآخرين . إلا أن هذه المعلومة جديدة علي واظن هذه المغلومات التي تقدمها غاية في الدقة وتنم عن علم وفهم عميق . زادك الله من فضله أخي وبارك الله في ماتقدمه وجعله شاهدا لك ورفعة لدرجاتك في جنات النعيم .
Even though I am a native Arabic speaker and even though I have learned the Qur’an and teach it to others. However, I find this information very accurate and reflects knowledge and deep understanding. May God increase your grace, my brother, and may Allah bless what you offer and make it a witness for you and raise your ranks in the Gardens of Bliss.

Excellent explanation! Also, the problem isn’t so much English, but rather the translators not mastering both languages. As you stated about “ثم“ and its use in Arabic, in English its contextual replacements are “furthermore”, “moreover”, “thereafter”, “subsequently”, and “additionally” to state a few. 😊
In the sample Ayah of 4:153 it reads perfectly fine in English if it was translated:
“They said to Mosa: "Make us see Allah with our own eyes" - whereupon a thunderbolt suddenly smote them for their wickedness. (Instead of Then) ‘In addition’, they took to worshipping the calf after Clear Signs had come to them. We forgave them, and conferred a manifest commandment upon Moses.”

Since Arabs themselves failed to grasp its meaning, it is not necessary about translation but rather more deeper knowledge of certain topic. Also, when we attempt to interpret the Quran we always must take into consideration the Quran as a whole e.g where else and in what context such story is mention. The explanation of the word "thumma" in 7: 11 really does not really matter if someone failed to grasp the wisdom as to why Allah is relaying the story of prophet Adam. The Quran is not that simplistic.

@@zahersalar9474 You got it : thumma = relaying . The particle Th is about Relation between thing, like ثمر offspring, I agree, the arab themselves don't know each letter has a meaning, it's etymology, arche-etymology, the beginning of human language. alif lam mim.

The most obvious place in the Qur'ān, imo, is the Āyāh 6:154 with the context mentioned before it. In Āyāh 6:149 Allah commands Rasūlullah saws. what he has to say to the people:
_Say, "With Allah is the far-reaching argument. If He had willed, He would have guided you all."_ (Qur'ān 6:149, translation of the meanings)
and in the following Āyāt as well. So Allah speaks to the Messenger of Allah Muhammad saws., and THEN Allah says:
_THUMMA ĀTAYNĀ MŪSĀ AL-KITĀB / Then We gave Moses the Scripture,_ (6:154)
So Muhammad saws. is mentioned BEFORE Mūsā a.s., then immediately AFTER that, what follows is that Mūsā is being mentioned with the word _THUMMA...,_ although Mūsā a.s. was sent chronologically BEFORE Muhammad saws.! Hence it's clear that the word _THUMMA_ does NOT necessarily only mean _THEN_ in terms of order.

This can be explained with the linguistic theorem of "deixis."
Deixis gives all aspects of language a sort of order. For example, in place deixis, there is here, the center, and there, the ends of the ordering. The same applies too for time, the center being now, and the edges being things like then, later, soon, before. Arabic could be understood as having a vast system of deixis encompassing all the criteria of the word, with 'thuma' as the edgepoint.

So, the translator should use proper words to use to replace the word 'then' in some of the ayah, otherwise readers will get confused. Though it may result in more than one word, it gives more correct context to the ayah.

    Great explanation!
For your information, some missionaries use the lack Quran translation in English to attack Islam.
    The missionaries said:
    "In Quran 7:54 written :
Allah created the heavens and earth in 6 Days.
But in Quran 9-12 written :
    - Allah created earth in 2 Days
    - Formed mountains, showered His blessings upon it, and measure therein all things to give them nourishment in due proportion in 4 Days.
    - "thumma.." Allah turned towards the heaven when it was still like smoke and formed the heaven into seven heavens in 2 Days
They said, the total is 8 Days..! (2+4+2)"
From above, now we (Muslims) know that understanding the meanings of "thumma" is important.
In short, the right meaning is the earth and the mountains were created in 6 Days, ‘simultaneously’ the seven heavens were created in 2 Days. The total is 6 Days.

We respect people and treat them with kindness, justice and dignity but we dont respect their beliefs, we dont insult their beliefs but we certainly dont respect them as they are false and lead people to hell.

Since Arabs themselves failed to grasp its meaning, it is not necessary about translation but a rather more deeper knowledge of certain topics and the style/structured of the Quran. Also, when we attempt to interpret the Quran we always must take into consideration the Quran as a whole e.g where else and in what context such story is mention. The explanation of the word "thumma" in 7: 11 really does not really matter if someone failed to grasp the wisdom as to why Allah is relaying the story of prophet Adam here. The Quran is not that simplistic. It is for those who reflect and ponder on the signs of Allah.
