      I've been drummer all my life, many bands all kinds of music, and the best stuff is 50s 60s and 70s. That's where everything came from. Its actual singing acapella. My daughter was the leader of the Madrigals in high school. I've played for 35 yrs even had to learn the Dead catalog. A rose in Spanish Harlem.

    I have to thank a Time commercial to introduce me to this song. I loved from the moment I heard it.
    There's something in the guy's eyes that matches perfectly with the song. It is romantic, but in a humble kind of way.
    Hard to describe what I mean, but I love the song. I've been singing it to my wife for a couple of days.

    Wonderful memories come flooding back with this song.
    I loved the 60s, the music, the dress, style, the simplicity, remembering good friends, who did not need to get drunk or high to have a good time, the innocence , no concerns about steet cred, designer labels and total lack of fear, when going out alone.
    Did I really travel regularly on the all nighter bus from Manchester town , (smile)
    Ohhhh to return to those magical times..

    I love that so many 50's and early 60's Rock/Doo Wop name themselves after cars or watches... The "Fleetwoods" to me means class, style & finesse

    I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Gretchen Christopher (blonde on the left) when I was at James Denman Jr High School in San Francisco, in the early 60s. She was married to my homeroom/sheet metal shop teacher. She was so beautiful, and such a very nice person, of course I had and instant boyhood crush. About a week after our meeting, her husband handed me an envelope with several autographed pictures, of herself, as well as by the entire The Fleetwoods Group, which I still have today, some 50 years later. A day I have never forgotten ....sigh!

      It gives me added pleasure to know that other folks still treasure music like this. I am 73 years old and --no I don't want it played at my funeral--I want to play it tonight. The Greek word "nostalgia" means home sickness and aptly describes the old mixture of pain and pleasure I feel being carried back to "record hops" of the late 50s and early 60s.

But like you, the "British Invasion" was my favorite era when it comes to rock music.....the Beatles, the Kinks, the Yardbirds, the Zombies, the Animals, Gerry and the Pacemakers and so forth. One of the most beautiful songs of all time. The Fleetwoods were Olympia High '58 - I think - and Don Ulrich, who renamed himself Don Rich and became Buck Owens' band leader/lead guitarist/fiddler was '59. Rich died young at 32 and his death drove Owens into a long depression that effectively ended his long hit filled career. Quite a lot of talent from one 1950's high school in the Pacific northwest.

      @henochparks Před 9 lety +6

      Dirty Perro African American groups and White groups started to mix since their audiences were also mixed. This started a break down of racial barriers. Shows like American Band Stand moved forward to show whites and blacks dancing together since the majority of Americans had no problem with it. This pushed segregation to the corner of mainstream society. Soon you saw Black with a White partner dancing. This slowly ended stigma against blacks.

    Thought I would try this again. When I started dental school in 1969, one of my classmates was Jerry Troxel, the half brother of Gary Troxel, the male vocalist here. Jerry left school after only six weeks, and I never heard from him again. Gary was kind enough to respond to my inquiry about ten years ago, but he did not know Jerry's whereabouts at that time, either. Anyone, including Gary, who may have information about Jerry, please respond here. Thank you.

Then later on, people still had them in their 45rpm collections so we still played them. I was born in '53 so the British Invasion is more my legacy but I love late 50's music.
