Amateur tank historian here! let's go! First off, this is the Panzer Kampfwagen IV Ausf.D. Ausf.D is the version of it (the Panzer IV design went from prototype Ausf.A to the Ausf.J at the end of the war). Ok, so the big gun is THE gun. It's a "main gun" but may just call it the gun. some would also call it the cannon or the main armament too. It's a short barrel 75mm KwK(kampfwagenkanonKanone(Tank Cannon)) and it's designed for infantry support, meaning it fires HE shells(exploding humongous bullets) at things like pillboxes, enemy fortifications, buildings, debris, blockades, etc. to allow the foot soldiers to move on unobstructed. For tank killing, this isn't as good a gun since the barrel is short, meaning slower shell velocity, meaning less penetration(the Germans used a longer barrel 50mm gun for that job, and when the mass wasn't sufficient, moved onto long barrel 75, long barrel 88, and eventually even 105mm and above late war). The weird triangular frame work under the gun is actually there to push away the antennae on the right front side of the tank beside the radio operator/hull machinegunner/Takebe Saori so the gunner wouldn't accidentally shred it with the co-axial(built in next to the main gun) machine gun fire while firing and turning the turret. The two small panels in the front that open up are the access hatches for the transmissions. All WWII German tanks and many allied tanks had engine on the rear and transmissions in the front. this was the wheel that pulled the tracks to move that tank. since you need to do maintenance on these parts but big hinged parts don't stand well against shots, especially the weaker hinges may give in, so they have small access doors instead to fix or do maintenance. The cupola(proper term) never had its height changed in any variants, including prototypes. Though the cupola was changed in design. Ausf A to F.1 had a fixed non-rotating design and a split hatch. Ausf F.2 to Ausf G had a rotating vision slits. This allowed less vision blocks but yet better all-around visibility. The Ausf. H and early Js had the rotating design but the split hatch was replaced with a single panel design. Later Ausf Js had a fixed design to simplify production further, as so I read. The only German tanks with a lower cupola were Tiger I Ausf Es, Tiger IIs, Panzer II and Panther Ausf A and Gs.

Don't like the Figma Pz. IV so much. For the same money you can get a 1/16 R/C Panzer IV which is detailed in a higher grade. Including metal wheels, metal tracks, a fully working suspension, metal cannon, sound and a fully working BB shooting system. Furthermore the Ausf. D hadn't the late drive- and guidewheels. This Figma tank in the scale 1/12 has too less details and you can see some lunks in the plastic parts. That's too expensive for such a "toy".

It depends on the tank. In this tank its more of a barrel or a howitzer. If a tank has a short barrels with a high caliber, then its a cannon. The rotating part is the turret.
