    Hi Mary,
    I have ordered a wheel. While waiting for it to arrive I have two questions..If I want a certain color, say salmon pink, can the wheel tell me what doses of the three primary colurs to use. Another question: why not just mix the primary colors in the right proportions to get any color instead of buying lots of individual color tubes ? Am I correct in saying that three tubes for the primary colors plus white plus black making 5 is really all I need. I intend to adopt acrylic.
    Thank you for your help.

      After i saw this video, i saw another video called Color Wheel Tutorial - How To Mix Paint. That one shows how to use the primary colours to get a lot of other colours and is good for beginners who don't want to spend a lot of money on too many paints, but after you're an intermediate, you could buy the other colours or if you're going to do a lot of painting.

    • @marymedrano9608
      @marymedrano9608 Před 6 lety

      To answer your first question, the color wheel will get you close to your salmon color. It does not tell you what proportion of colors to mix to get salmon. When you begin mixing with say, red, yellow and white you will be close. From that point, you need to make informed decisions based on the color you see.
      Part of the fun of mixing colors is the nearly infinite variety of colors one can make. There are not nearly that many colors in tubes at the art store.
      A good beginning for paint mixing is the three primaries plus black and white, as you say. If you want a whole bunch more variety buy a warm and cool of each primary plus black and white. You can paint for a lifetime with just these 8 colors.
      Buying other colors in tubes is not only fun, but they often cannot be mixed using primaries.
      Hope this helps.

      @@jimdimitrios1 Don't stress about it. Just pick one and stick with it. There is nothing magical about my system or anyone's system for laying out paint. It's for convenience and familiarity. When you're painting you don't want to think about where a particular color is. You just want to be able to put your brush in it without thinking too much. Good luck!

    Super helpful. Thanks! I will use it for interior design. Would you say you'd choose the technique and then find the colors you like?(e.j analogous)

      I would choose the color(s) I like first then choose what to put with it (based on the color wheel). Good luck!

    Yes thank you does the color wheel show what not to mix to make mud?

    • @marymedranogallery
      @marymedranogallery  Před 2 lety

      Haha. Well, generally mud (which can be beautiful) is made by mixing several colors together. It's why teachers often tell their students to keep their palette simple. So, although the color wheel does not show what not to mix to make mud you can now avoid making mud by keeping your mixes simple, meaning two colors for starters. Once you can mix those without creating mud try adding a third color in small doses. That's the key!

    Question so when you add the colors together and get the color is that the color you wear with the color you ate matching?

    Hi, I like turquoise and the coast paint colour I have is real paint. I'm actually new to art. Cam you tell use the colour the wheel to explain what colours might go nicely with teal? Or what I might need to mix it with to get turquoise ?

    • @marymedranogallery
      @marymedranogallery  Před 2 lety

      Yes, those next to teal on the color wheel and the color opposite on the color wheel. Hope this helps!

    Hi Mary I've got your note saying that you have put in the link (to part two) but I can't see the blue link in the comments box of part one of 'How to use the colour wheel' I would expect to see it under where it says Published on the 3 Dec 2013. Maybe you didn't save changes?Good Luck . . . Andy

    I do a lot of green what color would bright the picture up with. I do a lot of abstract painting.

      You can add white or any color that is lighter than green to lighten it. However, adding anything other than white will cause a shift in your original green.
