Watching this makes one realize why mass market beers are so bad. The art of the craft of brewing was killed by national distribution of the majors. Funny how things come full circle. I detest all of the mass brews today. I'll drink a PBR if there's nothing else available. Thankfully craft brewing is thriving bringing back the taste of real beer. So sad these companies couldn't have all survived to once more see their brews appreciated. This is a great documentary of the path of the small breweries of the north. Their cycle of life speaks volumes. Quality will always once more thrive if given half of a chance.

I failed to notice the SMS IPA in this story. Actually I agree the sometimes ridiculous flavor additives get too far from what I think of as "beer". That said it's just an extension of what has happened in the world of awarded chefs trying to create new twists on many different cuisines. While I'll on occasion drink a Peanut Butter Porter I would never regularly do such. I love my Guiness Extra Stout and Anchor Steam Porter. If the revival of what I term as "real beer" has a sideshow of some of these off the wall types then so be it. I'm just glad the craft beer industry has finally made a breakthrough and I can actually go to my local Publix and buy a sixer of something decent. Here's hoping the movement continues to grow stronger.

It is quite funny - just because it is a craft beer many people automatically think it must be better in every way than "mass produced" beer Just because a beer has lots of flavor does not mean it taste better than a proper balanced "mass produced" beer. At least that's my opinion.

Makes me thirsty. Recently saw a documentary on Martin Luther whose school menu included roughly a quart of beer per student per meal. He advised seeking the company of friends and drinking more when assuaged by evil.
