For a notoriously muddy pickup the invader sounded pretty clear
who says that rofl its one of the best pickup ever
Nahhh bro I have an invader set, the Neck is garbage & the bridge is a one trick pony. Don’t expect to be able to anything other than metal and even then it is overkill to its own detriment. I know because I’ve tried it in 3-4 of my guitars. And guess where they are? In their box on my shelf
@@sinisterminister9920 Idk man maybe you need a new set of ears XD Have you ever heard of blink-182??
@@sinisterminister9920 vintage output > high output
@@TheLowest yes its greater at being a lower input pickup., this is all subjective, theres no best, the best is whatever you find more suitable for your application.
I appreciate the consistency of the quality of your content. You are a useful resource and that consistency helps both us and you in the long run.
Crazy how hot the Invader is
I ve been waiting for this even though i have both of these pups :)
Haha, same here! :)
Getting a set of SH8’s putting them in my PRS. Can’t wait
I hate to make it so cut & dry (gray areas do exist in these types of things), but for me (based solely on THIS test) I'll go Invaders for cleans, and JB for crunch/dist....
Thank you for this, very much !! 🤘🏻🎸
Your videos are beyond handy, thank you! I favor both pickups in this vid for diffrent reasons ...the sh8 has an explosive sound but might be too much depending on what your after. Definately will poke out n say hello in a mix without question..the sh-4 might be the better goto if you want a better blend without harsh highs...they both sound great on the low end! I think theyre both great for metal and the invader does exactly that! Invades! lol.... Its all about what your after. I like em both
I like the Sh8 because of the Synyster Gates, but the JB in my opinion is much more defined and has the ideal amount of gain.
Synyster Gates & Zacky Vengeance.
I thought he used sustain pickups
Nvm I forgot those are just neck pickups
As an owner of 3 guitars with invader pickups that I use for different purposes I totally recommend you to get those! It’s pure magic for both clean and lead tones
One of my favorite channels on CZcams! Thank you!
I like the invader better. Much brighter to my ears
I love that riff at 3:55! Nice!
Great side by side! Thanks!
Fantastic!!! Exactly what i was looking for to help make a sound wise upgrade investment ! Thank you! Well done Mike! :)
I already have a Hot Rodded set (JB/Jazz) and I love them! I just bought a custom set of neon green Invaders!🤘 I just need my new pick guard to get here and I have a job to do. I LOVE doing jobs like that and trying out new gear. It’s my favorite thing to do when I have off work.
Dude! Thank you so much for this, super helpful 🤘🏼😎🤘🏼
Very nice. Both sound great but I think the invader is more versatile and not as scooped
the invader sounds more scooped that the jb
Damn this video is awesome, great format. JB for me!
What is it about the voicing of the JB that is just so spot on?
I like the invader personally. I'm watching these looking to buy. I bought a telecast deluxe and need pickups
Excellent comparison!
1:48 despite being notoriously known for sounding muddy, I'm definitely buying invaders! Those pick ups sound amazin! For my kinda" jazz -metal " taste
I love this type of content!
Sh8 just my ear taste. Sound very solid
Были оба. SH-8 мощный, но глухой и бубнящий по низам - не понравился. SH-4 четкий и сухой, но не хватает мощи по низам. В итоге SH-6 совмещает плюсы каждого, нравится куда больше.
Interesting. I like the JBs low end more than the invaders, but prefer the invaders high end. I have JBs in my Strat and am pretty satisfied.
Same tone....invader just a sliver more output. I had an Invader put in my 1980 Explorer. I took it out with a year and enjoyed the Duncan Distortions tone over the Invader. I had the JB in my Kramer Stagemaster. It was the stock pickup. Not quite enough output. The Duncan Distortion was my choice
I just ordered a set of Invaders, and I'm going to put them to the test myself. I have a guitar with a DiMarzio Super Distortion in the bride, and an S2 in the neck, maybe I'll do a comparison of them.
Any update
These comparisons are so helpful. Thank you! Are you compressing the tracks tho? I feel like Im hearin compression artifacts? Or maybe not.
Hi!! not compressed at all. Just a minor sample volume match when the output is different, to avoid prefering "the louder one", :)
PLEASE! 🙏🏻
Make some videos with the Duncan RTM. I would love to hear it up against both of these pickups.
They would sound great together....panned
Invader,i put my invader on Jackson js22 dinky arch top, sound crazy metal...🤟
Seems the invader has much better clarity
I've watched several of your comparisons and I have to wonder if you have a faulty JB? Your JB is darker than every pickup you compared it to (that I've listened to so far), yet most of them have reported manufacturer EQ curves that should be significantly darker than the JB's. And this comparison is Duncan v Duncan, so there's not even the excuse that maybe the manufacturer's have different EQ curve standards.
The Sh8 has a deeper sound, but the Sh4 has more dryness to it... Think i like the Sh8 more for riffing.
The JB I have sounds like a neck pickup on the bridge....I cannot get it to " bite ". Gone from V5 to a trembucker and now JB. I think me and this Ibanez Jcraft were not meant to be....
3:31 3:43 🤘💪😈 3:55 4:06
Kinda liking the Invader, thicker lead notes. ohh gee that's what I put on my strat.
Hahahahhahh I couldn't believe to my ears . Invader .... How it is very fantastic.
What guitar is this in?
The invader seems to have much more mids and highs, very balanced a bit less low end. I prefer it by far in the cleans and lead... the chugging rhythms though the JB sounds better to my ears. The balanced profile of the Invader with the high output seems to muddy it up a bit (even if the JB loses some of the sounds going on). Honestly an Invader & JB neck & bridge combo might work really well.
Invader sh8 bridge, jb4 bridge in the neck - what you think? I got a fender Jaguar player series
it's the other way, the invader has less mids, and a lot more low end and highs
@@emmanuelmartinez100 deff has a lower frequency mid presence to my ears for sure
Invader for clean JB for dirty tones
Vrooom vrooom
Invader bridge, and JB neck :)
Sh8=bright best to leading
Jb sh4=warm best to riff
jb sh-4 more suited to rhythm than lead guitar
The JB has a lot more clarity. The Invader is just too muddy. I've never been a fan.
Invader is definitely brighter, JB is warmer.
у ш-8 заметно бешеный выхлоп) ш-4 тише но грязновато звучит.
I’ve had the same set of Invaders in 3 different guitars. And I’m a Metal Head, but guess where they are sitting? In their box on my shelf😂 not that I dislike them but they are a one trick pony. Trust me. I’ve tried it in Multiple rigs/set ups. It does “heavy” very well, and even then it’s a little dark. The SH-8n is TRASH imo. The bridge can be still used in another rig one day. But guarantee it will find its way back on the shelf. The neck is unusable again imho
Which one of these two would your guys recommend for trying to sound as thrash metal as possible?
Dave Mustaine use a JB in Rust in Pace, the Trash Factor set have a JB modified an a 59 in the neck.
The JB Is good for Trash and styles with less distorsion, the Invader Is good for the most styles of metal...
@@emilianovazquez7325 hell yea dude. Thanks for the knowledge. I'm newish to guitar gear. I play punk rock but love that thrash metal guitar sound. I just bought the JB. N I'll make sure not to put too much distortion or gain on my marshall amp. Thanks again
As far as I know James Hetfield of Metallica used Invader Pickups on KEA, RTL, and MOP, if that means anything. He also used a Explorer with Gibson Dirty Fingers for RTL and MOP. Really it depends on what you like more though, in regards to the Invader vs JB.
@@TrickyPickins i didn't know james used the invader for the first 3 metallica albums cool info
@@Vulgarandbored he also popularized the now ubiquitous Emg 81-60 set
