    Next week's gonna be a bit different because Nintendo are making a new Metroid game and that's a momentous enough occasion for me to dedicate the whole of October to talking about Metroid games. I know that Halloween is happening soon but luckily Metroid can be scary sometimes so I'm sure I can whip something up. Hopefully Metroid Dread is as dope as it looks.

      I swear I'm not trying to be _that person_ but technically it wasn't an SNES game then; it was a Super Famicom game. I normally wouldn't quibble about semantics like that, but since it was a Japanese exclusive that specificity is kinda needed.
      But yes I was coming to the comments to say the exact same thing. I wonder how Rabbid made that mistake when it's so blatantly obvious by graphics alone that it was an NES title let alone the fact that he actually SAID "8-bit".🤔

      @AlexisFloofer Před 2 lety +1

      @@HylianTabby As you said, the gameplay is a bit clunky, but it also (at times) completely ignores the themes and tense atmosphere the movie tries to build.
      Combined that with scripted events sometimes being outright cheating, such as when you test someone for infection, walk forward into a trigger and they turn. And the game flops in comparison to the movie.

    • @shawnfields2369
      @shawnfields2369 Před 2 lety +1

      @@AlexisFloofer Well, does it at least have Keith David or Kurt Russell in the game? Maybe if this were the Ten Worst Movie Licensed Tie-In Games list, there'd be room for The Thing tie-in game. If they could eventually make a good Back To The Future game, and a great Ghostbusters game, they could probably make a good "The Thing" game. Keith David and Kurt Russell deserved better. Plus, The Thing is one of the best cult classic horror movies ever made. There were a lot more awful movie tie-in games Will missed out on, obviously. But let's be glad that movie tie-in games are a dying trend, and aren't as prevalent or as relevant as they once were. Let's appreciate it, because one day, like a nightmare, they could come back to haunt us all again. But I'm glad they mostly seem to be gone.

      It truly does deserve a better game, and just about any attempt to do so now would be better than about 80% of the movie tie-ins of old, simply because the base quality of a sellable game is so much higher now.

    • @shawnfields2369
      @shawnfields2369 Před 2 lety

      @@AlexisFloofer That's a shame. Yeah, I completely agree with you, ma'am. The Thing was one of the best horror movies ever made. It scared the crap out of me, seeing it on tv as a kid. I mean, I wasn't born in 1982, when it came out, but I was born about 11 years later. Still one of the best horror movies, even today. And yeah, games and their quality control have really gotten better over the years, and so have some movie tie-in games, seeing as how they're not all garbage. But, I'd rather not have movie tie-in games. I'd rather have a game that's got nothing to do with the movie, or a game that recycles or regurgitates the plot of the movie, back at the people who've already seen it, or probably don't care as much. I mean, there's always some exceptions. X-Men Origins: Wolverine was way better than the movie it was based on and gave us the story of Wolverine that we would've WANTED to see on screen, and actually telling us his origin story, and the years of wars he went through, and not just fast forwarding through the interesting parts, and also, no Will.i.am, or bad cg Blob, Hugh Jackman and the guy who play Sabretooth, reprise their roles too. Haven't played it, but I have unfortunately, seen the movie, in the hopes that maybe it was just me that was missing out on something, seeing as how Wolverine is my favorite member of the X-Men, but nope, the movie just blows. Despite Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman giving it their best, and even adding in Gambit, didn't help. Gambit just keeps getting screwed over. And it's hard to even keep up with the movie's pace, and tone, all over the damn place, I mean, The Wolverine was a much better movie, but everybody forgets about it, and just sees it as the middle movie of the Wolverine trilogy, which is fine, because it kind of is that, but I'm saying, Wolverine deserved better. And that's why I'm glad we got "Logan", despite that being the most sad and tear-jerking thing they've ever done with Logan as a character. Which I also missed out on in theaters, but seeing some of it on tv, I have to turn away from the screen at some points because of how sad it gets I have to try not to cry during it, especially near the end... but it's amazing to see how far games have evolved, especially movie games. There'll always be bad games, just a part of life, but that's ok, because we need those games too. As long as we always have games these good, anyways. But I'd rather not have movie tie-ins, as bad as something like Friday the 13th, or Back to the Future(1989), or The Goonies(even though I'm sure that game was supposed to be a sequel to the original movie), or like Scarface, sure, that's a sequel to the original, and Al Pacino himself even reprises his role too, and it's basically just a what if story, if he somehow survived the ending to Scarface, being shot like, a million times. Because I too often wonder what would happen if I could magically survive being shot at literally a million and one times. But I'm surprised that Will didn't talk about the Napoleon Dynamite DS game, which does copy the movie's art style, but from what I've seen, the game doesn't copy the movie, just gives everyone big, oversized heads, like they're all secretly inflating their heads to find the secret to breaking the rules of physics and gravity. Sure is different from the movie's plot... but maybe he just never played it? There were so many other terrible movie tie ins, not worth the trouble. Like the Resevoir Dogs tie-in game. Which is why I'm glad I never played any of these either. But I would've liked to play the X-Men Origins: Wolverine game though, or The Warriors game, and definitely the 2009 Ghostbusters game. Sure, there's always bound to be crap games that are sometimes tie-ins to crappy movies, or bring down the quality of a great movie; and some movie tie-ins that are just as good if not better than the movie they're based on, or are games that answer questions some of us may have had about some of the characters or things in the movie. Sometimes they're prequels or sequels, sometimes they're questions we shouldn't want answers to, but I'm glad in a way that movie tie-in games exist, even if I don't play them. But The Hulk and Wolverine tie in games, I would've loved to play as well. But, as fun as bad games can be sometimes, I'd rather just see Hulk and Wolverine smashing things up in a non movie tie in game, and them just fighting either bad guys, or each other. Or have something like the 2018 Spider-Man game, but for either Logan or The Hulk. But I am glad to have Keith David part of my crew in Saint's Row 4, as the VP. And also, them recreating the scene from They Live, with the late, great Rowdy, Roddy Piper, in the game, is what also makes the game great. Sorry for the long rant, but I do that a lot.

      Plus ridiculous rules about how stores had to buy all of their games, if they wanted the hits.
      And 3rd parties flooding the market.

      Jecht/the Final Aeon from Final Fantasy X. A surprisingly difficult boss fight that can easily one-shot your party if you're not prepared, combined with a pair of regenerating "towers" that buff him and debuff you which forces you to use all of the skills you've gained in the game if you want to survive (or just cheat and use Yojimbo, but again, cheating), combined with a satisfying ending to main protagonist Tidus' arc that forces him to confront the father who was never there for him, only to learn that his father was trying to help him be a better man, and even admits that he did a terrible job at that. Compare that to the final boss, Yu Yevon, where you 1) fight through all your aeons, losing the ability to summon them, then 2) fight a disembodied spirit that hates healing magic and potions but likes poison, all whilst your party is literally unable to die. And on the story part, this was the guy that created Sin, the world-destroying flying alien whale that has been the primary antagonist the entire game. Everything's been leading up to this final showdown. And he dies like a bitch without any cheap exploits (like Yojimbo, that single aeon and a shit-ton of cash is the single greatest weapon in that game). It's no wonder most people who've played FFX consider Jecht the real final boss. The actual thing should never have been included from the start. Just make up some BS that the Final Aeon replaces whoever the previous Final Aeon was, making Yu Yevon non-existent at this stage, and leave Jecht as the endgame.

    Had this list not been about "movie" tie-in games, I'd have honestly suggested Balan Wonderworld for this.
    Hear me out: when I think of tie-ins, I mostly think about the old Disney games for PS1, where the focus was to make a set of levels for you to play in the movie's world and the plot was an afterthought or relegated to cutscenes. And Balan has the same formula: the game has pretty much no plot, it's just a series of mediocre platformer levels, while the tie-in novel has plot, context, characterization, everything the game lacks.
    In a way, Balan Wonderworld feels like a badly-made tie-in for its novel, not that different from old movie tie-in games.

    Movie license games or movie tie in games or whatever you want to call them unfortunately have a bad reputation of sucking. There's so many bad ones out there that 5, 10 or not even a top 20 can be used to name them all. Of course there are those rare occasions when it can be a good movie tie in game like the first two Sam ramei spiderman games and Lord of the rings movie games. If only there was more good than bad but sadly the majority of them can end up in the garbage.

If you watch those competitions where the world's strongest men compete to perform these amazing feats of strength, they don't have these super toned, zero fat bodies. They look like Thor in God of War. The six pack is aesthetically pleasing, but it's overrated. Plus, considering the voracious appetite Thor is described as having in myth, his appearance works on multiple levels. And they actually got his hair color and long beard right this time. It's amazing how often they get those two things wrong, when they're two of the few physical descriptions we actually get for Thor.
