In Tibetan buddhism we don't have weird so called sacred spaces :/ and we never stick incense sticks upright sand doesn't work either. The burner needs an ash bed and the stick is laid down on the ash and it closed.
what is so weird about calling a sacred area a sacred space? thats what it is.
you need to lay it down on top of ashes and close the box
The insence is only burning half
Jeez that's the wrong way lol. Lay it flat on the ash or sand and sprinkle some incense powder lengthwise.
