Not all houses but quite a few architecturally built or just old homes in old areas here in Australia are considered heritage listed buildings and cannot be knocked over or changed dramatically.
For the younger folks: the "diy stained glass" is what the 90s kids called "window colour". After some time, it will not come off without a fight. Different temperatures literally burn the colour on the glass surface, it gets hard and is such a struggle to remove. Back in thr day they sold seperate transparent foil sheets to paint on. These were way better to get off the windows ^^
You are not kidding that after a while, window colour becomes nearly impossible to remove. I am pretty sure there is a dolphin drawing still stuck in the far corner of my bedroom window from 2002-2003ish that is still there at my parents place.
I get what you're saying, but also when you sell something you don't have a say over what happens to it. The dude should've talked to people interested in buying to ensure the next owners were going to live in it. Sell to people you know will take care of it and not tear down. 🤷♀️

I also read another difficulty of converting offices into apartments is plumbing. Those buildings are not plumbed out correctly to supply sinks, toilets, showers, and water to all the areas.
All I can think about is fire safety. I doubt those windows open. Hopefully there’s a sprinkler system, but is it for the whole building? The hole cut in the center may help, but I would not want to escape to the center of a burning building.

I deleted tiktok in march, it felt like my life was slipping away and fast! I felt like I didn’t have room for my own original thoughts and ideas anymore because I was mindlessly on the app for hours and what kept me on was the occasional informational video or something inspirational but It never actually served me lol ! Once I deleted I never missed it, I thought I would and I actually do the things I said I always wanted to do but procrastinated because of TikTok, I read, I garden, I go on walks, I go out and I love that ANYWAYSsss DELETE IT

Paige, we are designing a nursery and I would love to hear your input on how to decorate one. I’m finding it difficult because all nursery’s seem to look alike right now.
Really think about how things are going to go after baby is born. You'll be too tired to walk into another room all night. Get a sidecar crib for your own bed. By the time baby starts using the room much she will be around 2 years old at the earliest. Decorate for a child not a baby. Maybe get a bed with a removable railing for later in there so it can transition from toddler bed to kid bed easily.
Yes! This is great advice. I would also add that a general guideline would be to put as little as possible in the room and only get things like furniture and even a lot of shelving as they become necessary for your child. I’ve found it a lot easier this way to fill with what’s age appropriate rather than having to remove and redo a bunch of decisions that were only appropriate for 6 months of my kids life.

You really don’t need anything else kn the beginning. Maybe storage, but I would advise that big wardrobes are really impractical for tiny clothes. Dressers are the way to go, but those may be impractical later on. All decorative items turned out to be completely useless and later when toys started to accumulate the additional decor made everything look so cluttered. I would only do wall art if I had to do it again.
Regarding the bin, that one has a foot pedal for hygiene and also potentially has a compactor at the top to shove down waste so that it doesn't have to be serviced as often. This also prevents rubbish blowing onto the street as it tends not to be overstuffed as easily. If they have that capability there's usually a solar panel on top and they also have a sensor which sends an alert when it's getting full. The technology is getting really interesting on these. Where I've seen them there's often an educational or artistic wrap added on top to help people easily see the bin and encourage responsible disposal of rubbish (although I'm not in the US).

No windows in my bedroom, but there WAS an enormous boxy pillar that was in the middle of the room, making it impossible to arrange my shitty dorm-supplied furniture in any way that made sense, and a ridiculously huge bathroom that made no sense, which I bet probably had individual stalls once upon a time. I'm pretty sure the fact that my sleep schedule is an absolute mess >10 years after graduating college has something to do with the fact that I lived in that god-awful dorm room with no windows. I'm all for converting empty office space into affordable housing but it's so true that it needs to be reconstructed in a way that doesn't drive its inhabitants LITERALLY INSANE.

I grew up with linoleum floors in the kitchen laid out in sheets: completely seamless. People hate ‘em but nothing is easier to keep clean. I think those peel-and-stick tiles are the worst. I can only imagine the amount of gunk that’s going to accumulate in the crevices. My solution: PAINT.

the HOLD PBTeen had on my school -- one of our teachers ordered a bunch of the catalogues and gave us a budget to design our dream rooms from there, such a fun assignment. Looking back at all the designs now is so silly; thank goodness styles evolve!

I think I might try that if I can find a used one in good enough condition, and paint it a different color. I need somewhere to put all my kitchen utensils and pot lids, because there is no space for them in my crazy tiny 6' x 9' kitchen. Right now, my microwave is sitting on a child's desk and my utensils & pots and pans are all crammed onto a little cart I picked up by the dumpster. I think it's a medical cart, actually. I need something that holds more and is more utilitarian.
I have a toolbox very much like the one she has. I belonged to my father, but he didn't get to use it much. The wheels were never attached and are still wrapped in a drawer. I wish I could use it but I'll probably sell it.
My main takeaway from this, as a person who's not on TikTok, is that while I'm really annoyed when people insist on sharing TikToks on Facebook or whatever other platform (CZcams doesn't count, I love a reaction video), I'm actually shocked that there are a bunch of people on TikTok talking about Facebook groups! So odd.
I think a lot of people who don’t necessarily have a creative eye tend to stick to monochromatic looks because its easy to shop for. I think of the beige trend, everything gray and white, etc. Friends of mine say they have a hard time or get anxiety whether something matches or goes together. Or they can’t visualize it. So they just make everything two colors. 😂❤
The sliding rack on the ceiling for curtains is very old school IKEA. Green was popular in the 80's and 90's too.... English Racing Green was on every wall. With wild wallpaper like Kevin Mccallister's house. It's aaall back.

I had that lime green comforter/sham from PBTeen with blue leopard print sheets and a white duvet with vertical stripes made of ribbons of all different colors and textures. My grandma got me all new bedding from PBTeen for my 16th birthday. Wowowow I’ll never forget opening it! PBTeen was iconic

My aunt sold her 2.5 acre Newport Beach property that was in the family for 20 years. It was highly customized, 90% solar-powered with sprawling landscape made from the finest artificial grass, a beautiful tennis court, and even a portion of the yard that mimicked a nature preserve with a creek and a full functioning restroom, tree house... it's the backdrop of all my memories celebrating holidays with my humongous family. It was a difficult sell due to the customization and parts of the property having a different address, but the owners of the skate brand RVCA purchased the property and then bulldozed my fondest childhood memories. I drove past the property and see a modern squarish McMansion being built where a beautiful Spanish style home once stood.
I can’t imagine tearing down such a beautiful house, especially one that seems so well built. What a waste of a beautiful design and all those materials that went into it.
I have a few vintage books that are scheels green and they have trace amounts of arsenic in them. The Winterthur museum, garden and library actually sent out bookmarks with different green shades on them to book owners so they could determine if they had arsenic books or not. Not giving mine up though, too pretty even if they are deadly

The only place my tv fits in my living room is above the fireplace haha. It’s a weird layout. Luckily the fireplace is pretty low and it’s not crazy high. Def agree though that it looks best not above the fireplace if the space allows for it.

The trash cans are designed more like a mailbox and locked up to keep people from rummaging thru the trash not more eco friendly

Something about "renter friendly techniques" is such an ick to me. Amy Sedaris once said that a security deposit is a fee you pay you to do whatever you want to your apartment and more people need to view it as that!!
(I will say, this makes more sense if you're renting for more than a year).

I grew up with linoleum floors in the kitchen laid out in sheets: completely seamless. People hate ‘em but nothing is easier to keep clean. I think those peel-and-stick tiles are the worst. I can only imagine the amount of gunk that’s going to accumulate in the crevices. My solution: PAINT.

My Granny’s farmhouse linoleum floors were like 40 years old and spotless, I’m already wishing I had put linoleum instead of tile in our house!

the HOLD PBTeen had on my school -- one of our teachers ordered a bunch of the catalogues and gave us a budget to design our dream rooms from there, such a fun assignment. Looking back at all the designs now is so silly; thank goodness styles evolve!
We would get the magazines and I'd drool so hard at them, knowing we couldn't afford anything in it! I had a lovely room, but were in Ikea and vintage territory (where I still am!), not all new stuff from PBTeen.

I get so many good ideas from your videos! I just saw on one of those tiktoks that the girl had a red tool cabinet in her LR and it looks AMAZING! I think I might try that if I can find a used one in good enough condition, and paint it a different color. I need somewhere to put all my kitchen utensils and pot lids, because there is no space for them in my crazy tiny 6' x 9' kitchen. Right now, my microwave is sitting on a child's desk and my utensils & pots and pans are all crammed onto a little cart I picked up by the dumpster. I think it's a medical cart, actually. I need something that holds more and is more utilitarian.
I have a toolbox very much like the one she has. I belonged to my father, but he didn't get to use it much. The wheels were never attached and are still wrapped in a drawer. I wish I could use it but I'll probably sell it.

My main takeaway from this, as a person who's not on TikTok, is that while I'm really annoyed when people insist on sharing TikToks on Facebook or whatever other platform (CZcams doesn't count, I love a reaction video), I'm actually shocked that there are a bunch of people on TikTok talking about Facebook groups! So odd.
I think a lot of people who don’t necessarily have a creative eye tend to stick to monochromatic looks because its easy to shop for. I think of the beige trend, everything gray and white, etc. Friends of mine say they have a hard time or get anxiety whether something matches or goes together. Or they can’t visualize it. So they just make everything two colors. 😂❤

The sliding rack on the ceiling for curtains is very old school IKEA. Green was popular in the 80's and 90's too.... English Racing Green was on every wall. With wild wallpaper like Kevin Mccallister's house. It's aaall back.

I had that lime green comforter/sham from PBTeen with blue leopard print sheets and a white duvet with vertical stripes made of ribbons of all different colors and textures. My grandma got me all new bedding from PBTeen for my 16th birthday. Wowowow I’ll never forget opening it! PBTeen was iconic
My bedroom was literally lime green and hot pink. & I had the pink pom pom PB Teen bedspread! I was obsessed! Would even bring it to camp to decorate my bunk bed. It was so obnoxious!

TV above the fireplace: this trend really sends me to the moon. I am well aware I’m in a tiny majority, but the mantel to me is a place in the home that represents all you hold dear, worship or value. (In my home, it’s an abstract nature painting.) My aunt sold her 2.5 acre Newport Beach property that was in the family for 20 years. It was highly customized, 90% solar-powered with sprawling landscape made from the finest artificial grass, a beautiful tennis court, and even a portion of the yard that mimicked a nature preserve with a creek and a full functioning restroom, tree house... it's the backdrop of all my memories celebrating holidays with my humongous family. It was a difficult sell due to the customization and parts of the property having a different address, but the owners of the skate brand RVCA purchased the property and then bulldozed my fondest childhood memories. I drove past the property and see a modern squarish McMansion being built where a beautiful Spanish style home once stood.

I can’t imagine tearing down such a beautiful house, especially one that seems so well built. What a waste of a beautiful design and all those materials that went into it.
I have a few vintage books that are scheels green and they have trace amounts of arsenic in them. The Winterthur museum, garden and library actually sent out bookmarks with different green shades on them to book owners so they could determine if they had arsenic books or not.
Not giving mine up though, too pretty even if they are deadly

The only place my tv fits in my living room is above the fireplace haha. It’s a weird layout. Luckily the fireplace is pretty low and it’s not crazy high. Def agree though that it looks best not above the fireplace if the space allows for it.
