  • Making of Shree 5 chirra Khukuri by KHHI Nepal.
See how Kami's at Khukuri House makes this khukuri by hand. The blade is heated in a charcoal fire, forged and hammered by hand. Then the blade is heat treated in a traditional way using oil/water.
Then the major & crucial part of making chirra (fuller) in the blade is done. It requires skilled and balanced hands. It is one of the hardest to craft so only skilled and pro Kamis can do it.
We are very proud of our makers.

The seconds.. minutes... hours... days... weeks... months.. to even years of making and honing these skills are some of the finest craftmanship. Their Khukris are top notch and made with a lot of TLC.
To those that own their crafted knifes, take care of their blade well.

An amazing craftsmanship and the man who crafted this Kukri is so young (25yrs old)!
No way I can imagine young men in our country doing this. No manual labor is held in acclaims nowadays in our world anymore, but these young men are toiling to preserve the legacy of their predecessors thus preserving their identity.
I will surely place an order of one of these finely crafted Kukris from KHHI.

And I thought I needed a big ole anvil and hundreds of dollars in equipment. I got my Kukri from a Ghurka commando while in Afghanistan. He said it was hand forged and it is gorgeous! I treasure it so much, rest assured to that Gurkha, whoever he was, I will always treasure it. He was adamant that I treat it with respect, and I understand why too, and treat it with the reverence it deserves.

Take a closer look.... What the individual in the video made is a Tourist Khukuri. One designed specifically for sale to tourists who know very little about the culture and the identity which you speak of. One, all of those fullers. Two, the sheer weight. There is no way that khukuri is 24 ounces (maximum ounces a real Khukuri should be). That one will behave like an axe, instead of a machete. Three, it's full-tang. The real ones are all hidden tang. A tourist will buy it, take it home, display it, and look on it with pride. And he will have no clue that what he takes pride in, is not the real thing.
