On a smaller bun. With a slice of a cherry tomato and a tiny little bottle of BBQ sauce.
The market price for a mini cow is about two to three times a regular highland or Jersey cow and half the cost to feed. Their market isn't nearly as liquid, but a family could probably just live off breeding them for other hobby farms.
mini cattle, and mini cattle rustlers !!!
They are sooo cute!!
was good video ; enjoyed learning of other options in raising stock
Too bad they are moving to TN, they used to just be a 45 minute drive from my house, I wanted one :(
Great little video. That young man sure has personality! As a breeder and a lover of Dexters, I applaud your video! :)
I shall be raising a couple shortly grew up raising beef cattle holstein mainly but never thought of or heard about miniature cattle very intrigued
This is really an interesting and cute video.
What cute cows. I'd love a Dexter as a pet.
learnt (lûrnt)
v. A past tense and a past participle of learn.
just to clear up this up.... learnt is a word so there for is proper enlish
excellent!
this country ass montana kids. so cute how they talk. i love the accent
I’m Montagnard indigenous I love cows.
What do you think Sliders are made of. ...delicious.
that was like a dream of mine!!
@Mirlim If you have a problem with any dogs, cats and humans being eaten then it's hypocritical. How plants or trees react to those things almost certainly has nothing to do with physical pain.A humans body that is sedated and unconscious will react to sickness/injury and try to heal even though it's not in pain.
We love our Dexter cows. They are perfect for a small acreage hobby farm
Dexter cattle are great milk cows. They do not produce huge quantities, but are perfect for a family cow. Our current Dexter Milk cow is a super milk producer. She just had her calf on Sunday, and we are getting over a gallon a day without separating the calf at all. The milk tastes great and has high cream content - so it is perfect for butter & ice cream making!
Love it! Didn't know mini cows existed until my husband told me about them. Love he cows and the kids. BTW did anyone notice the picture of the full size "Cow" was a steer? However, I'd rather just skip over the part about their being a more cost effective way to produce "Beef".
yes, I do.
Very nice :-)
I like the video and you gave me more to think now cause i am thinking of start a small hobby farm may be i take your word and start with this breed they take less space and i can use more on one acre thank you and i wish to be came friends cause if i start with my hobby farm i would like more education from you thank you .and good luck God bless
So is this where White Castle gets its patties?
aww the cowz r so cute!
excellent tasting milk...
they have a reputation of having a finer grain of muscle, and excellent taste...
@danthemanfresno2006 I am glad you are comfortable in your assumptions. I have no moral objections to the eating of dogs and cats, just aesthetic ones. At one point in time is was assumed that the world was flat, that it would kill a person to travel faster than 20 mph and so forth. I doubt you are up on some of the latest research which states plants can anticipate being cut by shears. Or that trees of the same species communicate when infected so other trees can begin protecting themselves.
I really wished I talked like this kid
So which is more mellow, the male or female. I ask because when I get my land, I want one or two for pets, but not one of each, I want them the same sex as to not breed them. but I do want the most gentle breed of mini. : ) any suggestions?
When are all of you that leave these crazy comments gonna wake up and realize, Damn it!!! I AM SUPPOSED TO EAT MEAT!!!!! I have roots in South Carolina though I was raised in NOrth Carolina and could never eat as many beans as you activists would like. Besides you need some ham hocks or a beef shank to flavoe those beans. We have always eaten meat. You can't stop it. I hunt as well and proud of it.
Not all of the cows on a meat farm are meat stock, especially if they are used for show. Those cows are typically used for breeding stock, both so the calves can be used as meat, or sold to other people looking to show.
Kids who grow up on farms are actually pretty aware of how life works on a farm, and they "get" that the animals they eat are killed humanely, raised in good conditions, and have had good lives before they became food. There are "pets" and there are food stock. Simple.
i have dexter cattle in the uk
@fletchneck actually yes! i have herd of about 30 dexters that are grass fed and pure bred and there meat is of better quality than the lager meat cows due to the fact there is less fat in ther meat and like the video says the meat yelild quanity is higher
where are you located in NC??
Do they produce good milk like regular cows? Surprised they didn't mention anything about that.
Dexters are a dual purpose breed so they can be milk cows as well as beef cattle.
@danthemanfresno2006 Correction you did pop humans in there upon re-reading.
on a mini-bun!!!!
@Mirlim Meat is meat.Your issue is with taste doesn't count as anything could taste bad to anyone.Your issue with health doesn't count as many meat eaters knowingly eat meat lunches/dinners that they themselves call unhealthy from herbivores.Even a nutritionist would say eating dogs and cats has some health benefits.
@Mirlim That is a preference but they still could be a hypocrite.Do you have a moral problem with other humans eating dogs, cats and humans?Yes or No.A plant can react to some situations since it's alive.I never implied they couldn't.Plants are highly assumed to not feel physical pain since no mechanism is known by which they could have such a feeling.
@GigglingPsycho GigglingPsycho. despite your name, your comment makes more sense than most that i read on here
this is a great idea. i hate seeing farmers complaining and crying over costs to feed their cattle and then you see quite a few tree's and bushes and hedges around their property that could be used to feed them. its not all about grains and grass. they can eat leaves off the majority of bushes and tree's.
my Angus cattle/& angus cross with hereford butcher/ dress out at 58-62% of there live weight and don't cost 3700 each to raise. think they need to get there numbers right it takes about 100 bushel of corn + about 5 round bales (@700#each) of hay & they are on 10 ac of pasture to finish my steers to 1200-1300#
It has been a lot of years since my family has raised cows and the price of meat and feed have skyrocketed but I think they need to check their numbers again how could any one afford to spend $3700 to feed a cow and expect to turn a profit. The Dexters would be good for kids to show and maybe a small family milk cow but the breeding stock used to be so high priced that it would be hard to make a profit selling for meat.I think their place is the homesteads and the hobby farms.
$3500/year to raise a cow? What did they do rent it a 2 story apartment and let it order out every night?
*"Therefore" is the correct spelling and "ain't" is in some dictionaries but it's not proper grammar either.
Just because something has a higher % of lean value does not mean that the meat will taste better. Marbling is what brings out the flavor in beef and without it we'd be eating rubber.
With smaller forks.
Why raise mini cows? You want mini steak? That's what it comes down too.
Don't trust these statistics. I raise both Dexters and Angus cattle. Full sized get around 2,000 pounds easy. The expenses are also faulty. These people are in the south, not California. If they were In CA I would see it as more probable, but no.
i dont understand.. so the mini-cow produces 60% more meat, and the regular cow produces 50% meat.. but the regular cow is about 3 times as bigger than the mini-cow, so regular cows do give more meat.. right?
I show horses, its fun. :D
@danthemanfresno2006 You asked if I had a moral issue with it-- no, I have an aesthetic issue with it. Do you even know what the difference is? What does what a sedated human's body have to do with this? Plants manage all that they do without an apparent central nervous system. Again, they are not animals, they are plants, their sentience is different than ours. It's like saying that one culture's perception of creation is more valid than another. Face it your life requires death to fuel it.
@Mirlim Your point would be like a cannibal saying it's ok to eat the retards.I have also heard the average pig is smarter then the average dog or cat.If you don't have any moral problem with other humans eating what you call intelligent is or useful or them being sold in grocery stores and fast food then I would say you are not a hypocrite.Plants are unconscious and they don't feel the same way animals do.
"Learn" is archaic, but it was entirely proper to use it as in "to teach", once upon a time. So, them thar country folk way over yonder are stickin to their guns on talkin proper-like better'n y'all.
Much sweeter and richer milk.
@Mirlim I would keep cows as pets. You are short sighted.Do you eat dogs and cats that get put down?
Awesome, I bet I can eat a single mini cow in a week.
@Mirlim It is ignorant to assume I'm irresponsible with a pet if you don't know me.Many dogs and cats are born due to mass breeding for profit and most don't get those jobs. Many get put down yearly even when healthy. Most American meat eaters would protest dog and cat meat being sold in grocery stores and fast food which proves how hypocritical they are.
I want 50
teach
Carolyn, grow up! I am so sick of people who have this altruistic fantasy of how the real world lives. These animals were created to feed people! They do not have the cutesy human characteristics that Hollywood has assigned them in Disney movies. There are people on this planet who are starving and need food. By the way, my daughter just dropped off "Woody" and "Snoopy" at the butcher last week. We can't wait to enjoy rack of lamb from these guys.
@Mirlim You can't win the argument so if was you I wouldn't try either.I will just call you names and make up stuff about you.lol
Absolutely no way it cost 3700 to maintain a full sized dexter
cows dont actually have incisors
awwwww, how could you eat a mini cow?
@Mirlim You constantly assume and insult and I think I have been quite respectful of you.I have way more respect for meat eaters who aren't hypocrites.I just would never be ok with what they do or condone it.Meat eaters who aren't hypocrites would be viewed as evil by much of American society so very few admit it.Did a vegetarian attack you or are you Dr Phil?
@danthemanfresno2006 Sure you would keep them as pets... I'm sure that mini cows are the next potbelly pig. Responsible animal owners like me will be picking up your mess when you tire of them.
I love the moronic 'do you eat dogs and cats?' question. No, don't eat scavengers or carnivores-- they don't taste good. Also, dogs and cats serve purposes as vermin catchers and assistants/ companions.
He said he love her and she loves him. The video doesn't show how the cow is taken from the young man then butchered. I don't understand parents that allow their children to raise an animal then ask them to eat it.
Leave the cows alone
That can save you money can use kids as farm laborers! kidding!
I judge and show livestock in the FFA and smaller bone and less fat doesn't = good meat.
50% of a 1300 pound steer vs these little Dexters is probably 3 times as much and 3 times better marbling. Also Cows = female bovine that have given birth. All bovine are not cows!! >_< Lol hope I informed some who read this whole thing.
Miney burgers not advantage
@Mirlim You didn't reply to the eating of humans until now.I would call a aesthetic issue a preference and it has nothing to do with morals so you didn't need to add that.A sedated human is like a unconscious plant as they both react unconsciously that is all I meant. Most American meat eaters I have talked to will admit they are hypocrites as it's obvious. To have any moral problem with another eating any kind of meat when they do it themselves is hypocritical.
Money Money Money do anything to make more and for what- can anyone sincerely explain it?. Go to Africa or India and get indigenous no name breeds and use them to supplement the farm - to get rid of agricultural bi-products like straw weeds etc - and convert them to milk and fertilizer for the farm. You have cows a healthy farm and organic produce. Some MBA graduates in India have realized this fact and have quit their high paying IT jobs to go back and take over the farms belonging to their grand parents and are very happy about it. They have in one state of 80 Million people - (Tamil Nadu) convinced the Retailers association to stop selling Coke and Pepsi (Pepsico 's President was born in that state) effective this month. That's the present trend
@danthemanfresno2006 No, you have not been respectful. You have ignored much of what I have said and simply insisted on bringing up unrelated points and trying to force them to be relevant. You don't wish to acknowledge that in order for you to live death occurs, no matter what you eat. You have no idea what morals and aesthetics are and refuse to educate yourself. There is no evil, there is what society will punish you for and what fits your aesthetic. Don't talk like a Christian.
@danthemanfresno2006 Learn when you should use 'are' instead of 'is'.You have made plenty of outlandish assumptions. You have blinders on and are stuck on this hypocritical bent. If a person can justify their point of view( which you can't)it's not hypocritical. You can't condone the eating of animals but you refuse to see that you still kill in order to live because you choose to ignore anything outside of your neat little box. You can't even acknowledge sentience that is dissimilar to your own.
first
"learnt me patience and learnt me a lot of stuff"
didn't learn you how to speak english
@danthemanfresno2006 In the end there is no discussion with you. You have your little packaged rebellion, your bumper sticker philosophy and an inability to use 'an' correctly. You have never examined your true reasons for saying what you do. For most people having the claim of vegetarian (which you haven't denied) is so they gain a false sense of superiority. They are lowly, weak and banal. They are not introspective nor are they deep thinkers. They just sit on the surface and never look down.
@danthemanfresno2006 Okay... there is no point in what you are saying at all. Basing what I eat on what it's level of intelligence is or its usefulness in other roles is not at all hypocritical. You making any claim to not eating sentient creatures and then maiming and killing plants for your consumption is however. You are either ignorant or willfully delusional if you think that plants are not sentient. So go back to your happy dream, live your thin life and goodbye.
How can you not like this. What a great program
