Reels with draw bar cork drags like Tibor, Abel, etc. are "sealed" as long as you have the drag tightened somewhat to engage it. Therefore you should leave the drag set while you rinse it off at the end of the day of catching those monster saltwater fish. After you rinse it off then you can/should back off the drag. "Sealed" vs "Not" is the eternal debate. O-rings can and do fail, but is very unlikely. You decide your level of risk vs dependability. Great video overall James.

I think Greys also make a partially full cage. I believe the Fin and Tail reels have that design.

Yes, Grays is a subset of Hardy that’s a subset of Pure fishing.

Anyone here have any experience with the Hardy Ultraclick... thoughts? Thinking about picking one up for my next blue line outfit but have heard rumbling that the spring tension leaves a bit to be desired and prone to backlashing when pulling out line

I have not messed with them. Our friends at Los Pinos Fly shop in Albuquerque fish a lot of Hardy stuff. They might be worth reaching out to

What about value reels like Pisufun and MaxCatch which are machined aluminum reels well under $100.

I’m not familiar. I checked the websites of both companies and It looks like they are both made in China which would most likely explain the price point where they are saving on labor and materials. They are anodized and made of 6061-t6 and 6061-t8. Other than what I have read I haven’t personally seen or fished the product.

@@AboutTrout I have a number of US made reel, very nice but for value Maxcatch and Piscifun are hard to beat . Where they are made, the fish don’t care.
