I tried them recently, I was fairly disappointed with them. With a server location in my city along with very fast internet, I was getting almost 90 ping. I reached out to support, they blamed it on me, then proceeded to have me run tests on my own computer to troubleshoot the problem. IcedHost is owned by GameServerKings for those that didn't know. All of my friends were getting similar ping. Unfortunately, there were cheaper options with 12-15 ping. Regardless, great content man, keep up the good work.
Im currently on scalacube, go to work, come back and my server has been down for 5 hours - this is a daily problem. After watching this, i am now moving my server to IcedHost. Lost money on the old one but lesson learnt - always consult Srtbull!!!

If you’ve never hosted a server, when you’re looking for your server after it’s up and running, wait for all the servers to load before searching, and MAKE SURE YOU MANUALLY CHECK the box for empty servers! Took me 4 hrs and to find my server cause no one was in it lol

I've hosted before and server been up and running a month now was showing in modded then disappeared now won't show, changed name size just won't show in modded. This is my 2nd server had this problem last time can't remember how sorted it. I'll try manually look for it now cheers

We just swapped over from host havoc our daily restarts was wiping our servers randomly and all they could tell us is that it was a common problem with rust servers it completely killed our pop

Icedhost (NYC based servers) DDOS protection has not allowed anyone to use ImageLibrary or any plugins that rely on image library like kits, server rewards etc for over 2 weeks now. I DO NOT RECOMMEND ICED HOST. AT ALL
I have spoken to top dogs at IcedHost. Nobody has heard of this as issue. And neither have I. Can you dm me directly in discord or contact support at IcedHost to have this addressed?

hey srt!!! got my second server today, this time i went with iced host :) looks good so far. going to follow your videos and make an epic server. only issue i have is rust admin, will not connect with rcon port, but will with companion app port, thats useless lol. but the guys are working on it for me!!

Carriage return - from typwriters that used to have a 'carriage' that returned when you pushed the lever on the side of the carriage (or just simply pushed the carriage back over the left).

On startup on icedhost there are two more sliders that were most likely added after this video was made. One is VALIDATE and the other is LOGFILE what do this options do? And should they be on or off?
Logs are good to have if you have the space to save them. Can aide in solving issues that may arise based on your server config.
what host do you use to be able to search in game and no add the ip through steam?
All hosted servers will be searchable through the in game directory, provided their ports are open. When you start running into problems is when the server you're trying to find is physically too far away from you (the client) and/or there are too many other servers that are closer that have a lower ping. The search algorithm isn't awesome yet, and is currently being worked on. I'd like to say that one day they'll have it dialed in, but I'm not holding my breathe.
If you're trying to connect to servers that aren't populating on your in game directory, I would suggest searching for them on BattleMetrics and connect to them that way. (This is what I do when I'm logging into a viewers server that might be around the world away from me)
So I was shopping around yesterday for a hosting provider and I went to their website but some of the settings werent very clear. Such as CPU power. Normal, and High, but didnt specify what clock speed or how many cores. I tried to contact their sales support through chat on the main page, waited for over a half hour for a response, and when I finally got someone they apparently were outsourced and couldnt comprehend my simple question because they never gave me an answer. I wound up going with Gameserver Kings as they had a 50% off sale and I was able to pay for a whole year with their top end selections for a rediculously low price. I have already reached out to their support for simple questions and to assist with setup and I have so far received prompt responses, with the longest wait time for a reply to a support ticket being 11 minutes. Their chat support took only 2 minutes to respond and gave me the answer I was looking for right away. I know you posted this video over a year ago but my experience with icedhost yesterday was less than stellar.

I don’t like the performance on 8gb. I actually don’t even like the performance on 10gb. If it were up to me, all servers would be on at least 12gb.

As much as your comfortable getting. The more you grow the more you’ll need. Your community will appreciate putting in some extra head room to start with. (Even though they may not know it)

Yeah I'm really shocked by the dislikes right out of the gate. But that's okay. I can take the feedback.
With a couple of twists that make it only theirs.
My IcedBox server doesn't show in the modded list, also vanish is being funky. Upon adding it to plugins, it automatically is on and can not use commands to disable it. Can not find a fix for either of these.
Do they offer different server locations for the US? Like east coast, or west coast, central, ect. I find that to be a pretty important feature to have. Also do they provide FTP login information if we wanted to use an FTP client to edit the server folders instead?
They look like a pretty decent host honestly. Hopefully they offer those features I may give them a shot.
Actually I went and checked and looked like they only offer shared hosting out of Dallas,TX. That's unfortunate, but other than that they look like a really solid host for sure!
They do have an ftp system that you can use. I just didn’t show it in this video in the interest of time.

IcedHost doesn’t control player slots. So you can have as many players as you want until you run out of resources and even then, you can just upgrade.

Srtbull, first thanks for the video, very helpful! Have you ever run a 6k map on icedhosts rust servers? I'm currently with g-portal and less than a week in we've experienced a few random restarts plus the server restarting process is extremely slow (15 minutes +/-). I'm really digging the control panel options provided by iced, but I have concerns with their max ram of 12GB (my g-portal currently runs around 12GB with a handful of people on and no plugins). Your thoughts on this would be very much appreciated :)

First 24 hours it’s running strong. Runs smooth. I’m running a lot of plugins as this is where I record most of my videos. No population though as it’s blocked to the public. So hard to say. Maybe my example isn’t the best test.

@@srtbull I may have to check out that host, Ali from your community ran a ddos test against mine the other day and it hiccuped like crazy defending against it (which g-portal claims to take less than a second to reroute ddos attacks). Have you ever tested your host?

Ya shoot me in the detection to your video that shows how to get my sever under modded I have it online but friends and others players need the IP address I think I want it to show in the derectory for every one
I use icehost
As soon as you install oxide, your server will appear on the modded list. You don’t have to do anything extra. If your server isn’t showing for friends, it can be a number of things. Distance from client to server. Number of servers that are closer with lower ping.

@@srtbull lol thank lol watch all your videos and I had a hotel just built but I was messing around with the remove item plug-in and I accidentally left it at zero and removed. All my foundations are built. I could not find a way to delete the hotel so I remove the plug-in for both and hopefully that works. I’m about to find out if it does I’ll just re-install them and start over.

Because every host would be a little bit different, I would have to make a video for each host. I would suggest getting the host to help. Are you with IcedHost by chance? We could get in a discord call and work on it

i really need your help, im so new. i bought a server from shockbyte and its just vanilla rightnow, and i got it open and running and a couple of my friends and i have been able to direct ip connect. but and i watched your video on the steam server favoriting so it will show up in my favorites list in game. but that pretty much all sums up where im at, i have no idea how to get my server to show up in community list, nor do i have any idea what oxide is or how to get it or work it. nor do i have any idea how to really work with any settings with shockbyte, a lot of their troubleshoot directions are super vague so i dont know what to do at all, or how to use admin commands, or give them to myself or any of my friends, really all i want right now is for it to be listed in the community server list, and be the accurate server name(mostly just want it to be in community list) even if i have to click "display empty servers" like thats fine. i just want it to be findable, because basically the only way anybody on earth can join rn is via IP Direct connecting through rust F1 console after being given the Ip by me.
Again that’s not something in your control but just know if you can use direct connect, then it will show up for people within range of the server.
You server is online and you can connect to it. So that’s good. So will everyone else be able to as well.

Have you communicated with them? They are really good at making sure they do everything they can to fix any issues.

This aged like milk. Icedhost is even less reliable than pingperfect now... they have had 6 network wide downtime events in the last 2 months. One last week was 16 hours long!!!!
Everyone is entitled to their opinions, no matter how wrong they are.
That was a specific incident and they worked on it for 24 hours straight to fix it.

Yes they have 24hours trial, but at 6gb or ram. Thats not gonna do if you want to test "hawk ridge island" or some other heavy map. Kind of weird that they give you a slowed system and you should decide on that if you want to start a longterm-comitment.

I'm no expert, but I think the trial is more about the interface than server power. And for the ones thinking, "Well, it's just a pterodactyl interface..." bear in mind that there are people like me who haven't ever used ANY server interface. If you do the trial and like the interface and customer service, including the very fast response to tickets, you can then choose your server size when you decide to rent server space from them. So if you know you're going to run something(s) that require more processor, storage, etc. you can choose how much of each you need.

I'm honestly not seeing the worth here.. This has been super frustrating... Other host sites have far better how-to videos that answer each element your looking at.

the support from the guys is definatly not the best, i changed to these from my old host that couldnt load a custom header to my server but other than that i had no problems at all, now with these ive had multiple server crashes, tickets deleted and not answerd, and maps wiped with no warning from them, really felling like i shouldnt of chaged

@@srtbull I tried to open a ticket first then had to open another to actually be able to even get chatting to someone, 10 hours it took 5pm uk time it crashed 3am I was still trying to get help, I tried the web chat and they told me to open a ticket
