  • Hey friends, after 9 months in beautiful Western Australia, it is time for us to cross the Nullarbor Plain and head into South Australia
Despite what we'd heard, we did NOT find this drive boring at all. There was plenty to see and do, and not to mention the EPIC free camp at the Bunda Cliffs, where we spent two days.
We hope you enjoy this journey as we take a trip in a van around Australia.

The Nullarbor would have to be one of Australia's best road trips. it's the furthest from boring. It does need to be travelled in both directions to get the full enjoyment.

The Roe plain between Madura and Eucla used to be an ancient sea bed. If you look at the edge of the road you can see shells that have been dug up as part of the road construction. 🍕🚴🍍

I’ve crossed the Nullarbor numerous times. The first few times was when it was all dirt. Not a fun trip. Passing huge road trains blind in clouds of dust. They would put there blinker on to say it was safe to pass. So much better once it was bitumen. It’s been a good few years. I think the last time I drove it was in 1998. That sunset was spectacular! I’m a bit behind with the videos as we’ve just finished moving back into our MotorHome so it’s been a busy few weeks. 🤗💖

    • @LynneCarey
      @LynneCarey Před rokem

@@nigelandsueadventures there were definitely a lot of corrugations. I was a kid when I was first crossing it with my parents in a car and caravan. Then later on as a young married person we crossed it in a car and a lot of it was still dirt. It was amazing to get to the bitumen on the other side. 😂 I saw I was only one behind. Hopefully I’ll catch up shortly. 😊

Hi Nigel and Sue. My wife and I have been watching your program for a few years now and love your work. We recently bought a Sprinter 4x4 LWB and I am hoping you may be able to give us some feed back on the Sprinter perfomance on unsealed roads or off road. I do not intend to do any serious 4x4 driving, but would love to be able to get to some of the more remote areas and camp grounds including some beach camping.
Our previous van was a Fiat Ducato, front wheel drive, shocking suspension and felt it on corrugated roads. Limited to the black top. We did take 6 months off work and did a 1/2 lap to SA, NT, Qld and NSW which we loved.
We live in Melbourne and on retirement, intend to do a lap in the future and plan on heading towards WA.
Also, our van does not have AC. Do you think you need it, particularly in the Northern WA?
Just a tip when you get to Vic, make sure you go to Wilsons Promontory. Everyone seem to visit the Great Ocean Road and do not visit Gippsland. Its really underrated.
Keep up the great work and would love to hear from you.
    Cheers Geoff

Hey Geoff, that’s awesome you got a 4x4 Sprinter. Does it have dual rear wheels?
We’ve found ours fine on the beach and off-road but it doesn’t love corrugations. We’ve just done the Oodnadatta Track (our videos are about 6 weeks behind at the moment!)
We don’t have an aircon, if you time your trip right you won’t need aircon. Be up north from May to October and then head south. I spent the month of November in Exmouth and didn’t need it there.
Hope that helps! Thanks for watching!

@@nigelandsueadventures Hi Nigel and Sue, our van has single rear wheel, it is a 419, I think yours is a 519. Many thanks for the prompt reply and thanks for the advice. Good idea to head south. You will love the Prom, there are heaps of day and overnight walks. Any of the coastal walks are fantastic, some great overnight walks to the east coast, also the light house and Southern Point. The most Southern point in the main land. Tidal River is the only camp ground, its very nice, not cheap, but can get full on weekends in the summer months.
Another good National Park is the Otway Rangers. Cheers for now. Geoff

Looking forward to seeing the Bunda Cliffs. Sue made us cry watching the sunset. Beautiful. Was wondering exactly where was that spot you saw the sunset. Looks like you got a good view right along the cliffs. And how do we locate that spot on a map. Are there others just as beautiful.

Sadly a lot of the free camping spots on the Bunda cliffs have closed as the cliffs are becoming unstable ( I think I pointed out some cracks in this video). If you use the WikiCamps app, you’ll be able to see which ones are open. But honestly, there’s so many good places to stop along there. Don’t rush the Nullarbor!
