I could never describe life in Spain to people in California (Where I live) like you did in this video. Most of the foreigners when they visit Spain go to the big cities, Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Sevilla but the most beautiful gems of the country are in the small towns and villages. Thank you so much for such an honest description of rural Spain. You are awesome!

Hola Rachel! Aquí un logroñés de pura cepa para felicitarte por haber escogido mi tierra para ejemplificar la vida en la España periférica y más conectada al mundo rural. Aunque soy consciente de sobra, me asombra que lo que yo conozco desde que nací de las comidas, el asado, la vida desconectada y sencilla, y que he practicado el 85% de mis fines de semana, sea tan excepional y llamativo para visitantes de otros lares... en verdad viendo estos videos aprecio más algo a lo que por estar acostumbrado no le daba tanta importancia y cada vez tengo más claro que aunque soy urbanita, una ciudad como Logroño en una región como La Rioja es más que suficiente. Gracias!!

Despues de pasar una temporada en UK, lo primero que hice al volver a España, es meterme en un bar y comer como si no hubiera mañana,entonces aprendi a apreciar lo que tenemos y no le damos la menor importacia, hasta que sales fuera.

Hi Rachel, I’m from a city close to Barcelona, Spain. I have been living in the US for the last 7 years and I’m still missing Spain so much so, that I’m seriously thinking on moving back soon. I thank you for your love to my country. All you like and praise is what I miss the most: the sense of community…have time to spend with family and friends, apart from the food, the landscapes, the little towns, the markets on the streets, la sobremesa… I hope you spend much more time there and have the opportunity of “Vivir la vida” to the fullest. OMG! I've seen almost all your videos and it's the first time I've cried 🥺 It's such a simple and beautiful video. It reminded me how fortunate I am. I also love watching the landscapes when while driving, the small towns full of people in the "terrazas", and the "sobremesa" with my family, friend, and coffee (in fact, I'm basically a tea person, but I love drinking coffee just at sombresas :D). I've lived in Hungary, China, UK, and Italy, and I always feel lucky to live in Spain, but sometimes... we forget about the importance of these little things! 😊Thank you, Rachel!

Un puente es cuando ese festivo es un lunes o un viernes, por lo que se junta con el fin de semana y tienes como tres días seguidos de descanso. Por ejemplo, si el festivo cayese en miércoles, nunca diríamos "puente", diríamos "festivo". 😉
Me has hecho echar de menos mi pueblo y su misterioso silencio, sus campanarios, su castillo templario...

I like the small things you pay attention to. I can appreciate more the good things we have in Spain and I don’t realize. I have to say though that a few days it is nice being in the country side but I wouldn’t change it with living in the city. Having both is great! As you already know a lot of people living in Madrid has family in the country side and they go often. Just to disconnect and check on your family. Thank you for your videos! It makes me appreciate my country more.

@@rachelanne2 i think you would get bored and you would like your kids to grow up in the city better than in the country side. I believe is more stimulating the opportunities you can find in a big city. Of course it has its drawbacks too but In my opinion the benefits are worthy

Of course it depends on the person. My point is that maybe you like it so much because it’s different of what you are used to. After some years it could be boring. But of course I might be wrong.

That's "un fuego de sarmientos", a fire made with cut off branches from the pruning of the vines. It's considered by far the best for roasting meat. You were so lucky! In Spain we don't need long lasting fires or barbecues, we're more of the "medium rare" school.

Un vídeo precioso Rachel, la guitarra de fondo ha estado muy acertada. Le da mucho ambiente. El vídeo me ha recordado parte de mi niñez, porque tengo parte de familia de allí y de niño he pasado algunos veranos en Haro ( un pueblecito de la Rioja ). Me han venido unos recuerdos muy entrañables. Por tu forma de ser, ojalá hubieses experimentado lo que es veranear en un pueblo de España. Creo que no hay una sensación más cercana a la felicidad plena que esa, y cualquier español que lea esto creo que me dará la razón.

I remember many years ago that some friends and I got together to come to a friend's house in a small town near Madrid to have lunch because it was his birthday and the "sobremesa" lasted so long that it lasted until dinner. :)). As a Spaniard, I can say that was the longest "sobremesa" in all my life.

Yo le llamo barbacoa a cuando tiene tapa y puedes cocinar tambien con el humo, o controlar mejor la temperatura para cocinar mas lento, asi como en el video le llamo parrilla.
Para mí todo es parrillada. No soy tan sofisticado como para hacer distinciones 😅

My parents were from La Rioja, and if you go back there you have to eat Rioja-style potatoes, it's with chorizo and the one who was the best cook in the world Paul Bacous said of this dish "A recipe like this should represent Spain throughout the world because it is the tastiest I've ever tasted in my life”

La zona de vinos de La Rioja es una maravilla pero el encanto de las zonas montañosas del sur de la rioja (Parque natural de Sierra de Cebollera) es incomparable.
PD: Se nota que el vídeo tiene la intención de llegar a estadounidenses pero me da la sensación de que va a tener más tirón entre tus seguidores españoles que entre los americanos que lo lleguen a ver. Igualmente es un gran vídeo.
